India vs New Zealand T20 : Abhishek Sharma Reveals Secret Behind Explosive Batting

Published on

Indian batter Abhishek Sharma delivered a sensational performance against New Zealand in the first T20 match at Nagpur. After the match, Abhishek spoke about his approach, preparation, and mindset behind his aggressive batting style. He said he always enters a match fully prepared and trusts his limited but well-practiced shots.

Abhishek played a blistering knock of 84 runs, which proved decisive for India. His innings helped India post a massive total of 238 runs. The Indian bowlers later restricted New Zealand to 190 runs, sealing a 48-run victory.

Dominating the Bowling With Intent and Timing

Abhishek Sharma’s innings in Nagpur was marked by clean hitting and fearless intent. He struck eight towering sixes and five boundaries during his stay at the crease. More than half of his runs came through boundaries, once again underlining his attacking mindset in the shortest format.

His ability to target bowlers early in the innings put New Zealand under immediate pressure. Powerplay overs were fully utilized, giving India a strong platform. The momentum created by Abhishek allowed the middle order to play freely and maintain a high scoring rate.

Trust in Preparation and Shot Selection

Speaking after the match, Abhishek explained that his batting relies heavily on preparation before the game. He said he does not possess a wide range of shots. Instead, he focuses on a few shots and practices them extensively.

According to Abhishek, trusting his shots is key to his success. He prepares mentally for the bowlers he expects to face. He also studies how teams plan against him, including field placements and bowling patterns.

He added that modern teams always come with specific plans for batters. These plans involve bowling variations and fielding strategies. His preparation helps him stay ahead during the game.

Practice and Intent Behind High Strike Rate

Abhishek highlighted that playing at a strike rate of 200 or more requires strong intent. He said this level of batting cannot be achieved without consistent practice. For him, practice sessions before the match play a vital role in shaping his innings.

He explained that before the Nagpur T20, he had several days to prepare. During this time, he visualized facing specific bowlers. He was aware that New Zealand would challenge him early with their main bowlers.

This clarity helped him execute his shots with confidence during the match. He relied on instinct but backed it with preparation done in the nets.

Is Six-Hitting a High-Risk Strategy?

When asked if six-hitting is a risky approach, Abhishek disagreed. He said he does not see it as a high-risk strategy. Instead, he views it as part of his natural game.

He clarified that it may not be his comfort zone, but it is something he has worked hard on. Abhishek believes in using the first six overs effectively. He explained that most teams use their best bowlers early in the innings.

If a batter scores quickly during the first few overs, the batting side gains a clear advantage. This mindset drives him to attack early and put pressure on the opposition.

No Range-Hitting, Focus on Timing

Abhishek also addressed questions about range-hitting. He said he does not consider himself a power hitter in terms of brute strength. He believes his strength lies in timing rather than raw power.

He emphasized the importance of watching the ball closely and adapting to conditions. Since the Indian team plays across different venues, adjusting quickly becomes essential. Pitch behavior and ground dimensions influence his shot selection.

To manage this, Abhishek plans his approach during net sessions. He studies which bowlers he will face and prepares accordingly. This preparation allows him to stay flexible during matches.

Reading Bowlers and Executing Plans

Abhishek spoke about how he chooses which deliveries to attack. He said watching match videos helps him understand bowling plans. By analyzing footage, he gains insight into where bowlers are likely to pitch the ball.

This preparation helps him anticipate deliveries and select shots confidently. However, he stressed that execution matters more than planning. Since he relies on limited shots, he focuses on perfect execution rather than experimentation.

He added that simplicity in batting helps him stay consistent under pressure.

Contribution Beyond Batting

Apart from batting, Abhishek also spoke about his enjoyment of slip fielding. He said fielding in the slips gives him confidence and keeps him engaged in the game.

He credited his improvement in fielding to guidance from Dilip Sir. Abhishek acknowledged the role of the fielding coach in shaping India’s overall fielding standards. He said consistent hard work during training sessions has helped him grow as a complete cricketer.

Player of the Match Performance

Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Match for his outstanding innings. His performance set the tone for India’s dominant win. The knock once again highlighted his growing importance in India’s T20 setup.

With this innings, Abhishek continues to strengthen his reputation as a dangerous top-order batter. His ability to score quickly at the start gives India a crucial edge in T20 cricket.

Looking Ahead in the Series

India’s victory in the Nagpur T20 has given the team a strong start against New Zealand. Abhishek Sharma’s form will be closely watched as the series progresses.

His clarity of thought, disciplined preparation, and fearless batting approach make him a key player. If he continues this form, Abhishek could play a major role in India’s future T20 plans.

The Nagpur performance was not just about runs. It reflected confidence, preparation, and maturity. For Abhishek Sharma, trusting his game remains the biggest strength.
