BCCI Announces Record Prize Money for India Women’s World Cup Winning Team

Published on

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive reward of ₹51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team in recognition of their historic World Cup win. Under the leadership of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the team triumphed over South Africa by 52 runs in the final, held at Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This victory marked India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup title, breaking a 20-year drought that included close calls in 2005 and 2017 when the team reached the final but fell short of the title.

On November 2, 2025, the Indian women’s cricket team achieved a momentous milestone in Indian sports history. The reward announced by the BCCI surpasses the prize money awarded by the International Cricket Council (ICC), further emphasizing the significance of their achievement. The total prize money awarded by the ICC to the World Cup-winning team stands at 4.48 million US dollars, which is approximately ₹39.78 crore. However, the BCCI has gone above and beyond, rewarding the team with ₹51 crore, an amount that is significantly higher than the ICC’s official prize.

BCCI’s Generous Reward to Women’s Cricket Team

The ₹51 crore prize money announced by the BCCI is a reflection of the immense value the board places on this historic win. Speaking to news agency ANI, BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia explained that the decision to grant this substantial reward was made to honor the team’s remarkable performance. According to Saikia, the contribution of Jay Shah, the Chairman of the ICC, was also vital, as he was instrumental in securing a nearly 300% increase in the prize money for the Women’s World Cup, just a month before the tournament.

Saikia further praised the Indian women’s cricket team, stating that the way they defeated South Africa to secure the title at the DY Patil Stadium made the BCCI extremely proud. The BCCI’s reward of ₹51 crore will be distributed not only among the players but also to the selectors and the support staff, led by Amol Mazumdar. The board’s generosity underscores the importance of this victory for Indian women’s cricket.

Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma Shine in the Final

The final of the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup saw outstanding individual performances from Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma. Verma, who was called into the squad to replace the injured Pratika Rawal, made an immediate impact. She contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 87 runs and taking two key wickets. Deepti Sharma, another star of the match, scored an important 58 runs and took five wickets, showcasing her all-round abilities.

The Indian women’s team posted a formidable total of 298 runs while batting first in the final. South Africa, in response, could only manage 246 runs, falling short by 52 runs. This victory secured India’s first-ever One-Day International (ODI) Women’s World Cup title, marking a historic achievement for the country and a turning point in women’s cricket.

A Historic Victory for Indian Women’s Cricket

India’s victory in the 2025 Women’s World Cup is a significant milestone for women’s cricket, both in India and globally. The team’s victory comes as a result of years of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of women’s sports.

The BCCI’s decision to reward the team with such a generous prize is also a reflection of the increasing recognition of women’s cricket in India. The board has always been at the forefront of supporting the Indian women’s cricket team, but this gesture of awarding ₹51 crore signifies the growing importance of women’s sports in the country’s sporting landscape.
