In a significant move to bolster development in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River and flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains, enhancing connectivity in the region. These developments come in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, and have elicited a sharp response from Pakistan.

Chenab Bridge: A Symbol of Engineering Marvel and National Unity

The Chenab Bridge, standing at 359 meters above the riverbed, surpasses the height of the Eiffel Tower, making it the tallest railway bridge globally. Part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project, this bridge is a testament to India’s engineering prowess and commitment to integrating Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Constructed with 30,000 tonnes of steel, the bridge is designed to withstand high-intensity earthquakes and wind speeds up to 165 mph. Its completion is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Katra and Srinagar, boosting tourism and economic activities in the region.

Vande Bharat Express: Enhancing Connectivity

Alongside the Chenab Bridge, PM Modi flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains, marking a new era of high-speed rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir. These trains aim to provide faster, more comfortable travel options for residents and tourists alike, further integrating the region with India’s broader transportation network.

PM Modi’s Strong Message to Pakistan

During his visit, PM Modi addressed the recent Pahalgam terror attack, accusing Pakistan of attempting to destabilize the region and disrupt its development. He stated, “Pakistan attacked both ‘insaniyat’ and ‘Kashmiriyat’ in Pahalgam. Its intention was to incite riots in India and stop the earnings of the hardworking people of Kashmir.”

He emphasized that such acts of terror would not deter India’s commitment to the development and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan’s Response

In response to PM Modi’s remarks, Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed strong disapproval, labeling the statements as “baseless and misleading.” They firmly rejected the allegations of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nations.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Countermeasure

Following the Pahalgam attack, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation involved airstrikes on multiple sites and was part of India’s broader strategy to combat cross-border terrorism.

PM Modi’s recent initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir, including the inauguration of the Chenab Bridge and the launch of Vande Bharat Express trains, signify a robust commitment to the region’s development. While these moves have been met with resistance from Pakistan, India’s stance remains clear: development and integration of Jammu and Kashmir will continue unabated, despite external pressures.
