India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate: Nepal Expresses Strong Support for India in Anti-Terror Operations

Published on

The conflict between India and Pakistan has escalated rapidly following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The attack resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepalese citizen. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The strikes eliminated over 100 militants, according to defence sources. However, the retaliation triggered direct conflict. Pakistan has responded with missile and drone attacks on Indian cities, including Jammu, Jalandhar, and Jaisalmer.

Amid this tense scenario, India has received public diplomatic backing from one of its closest neighbors — Nepal.

Nepal Stands with India in Fight Against Terrorism

In a formal statement issued on Thursday, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared its support for India. The statement came as India continued to defend its borders and respond to repeated cross-border threats.

“Nepal strongly condemns the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam,” the statement said. “We express solidarity with India in this difficult time. We stand with our neighbor in the fight against terrorism.”

The ministry emphasized that terrorism is unacceptable in any form. Nepal added that it supports decisive action against those who sponsor or carry out such attacks.

This public support comes at a crucial time for India, as India-Pakistan tensions enter a dangerous new phase.

India Targets Major Cities in Pakistan After Attack

Following the Pahalgam attack, India began carrying out precision strikes across Pakistan. The Indian Air Force targeted several sites in Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, and other Pakistani cities.

The strikes were part of Operation Sindoor, launched to dismantle terrorist infrastructure. Sources said Indian forces acted on real-time intelligence about training camps and arms depots.

In response, Pakistan launched retaliatory attacks. Indian cities such as Jalandhar, Jammu, and Jaisalmer came under missile and drone assault. India’s air defence systems neutralized many incoming threats.

So far, no civilian casualties have been reported in Indian territory due to these countermeasures. However, some injuries and property damage were noted in affected districts.

Nepal Rejects Use of Its Territory for Anti-India Activity

Nepal’s government also clarified its stance on regional neutrality. The Ministry stated that Nepali soil will never be used against its neighbours.

“We follow the principle that Nepal’s territory shall not be used for any hostile act,” the statement added.

Analysts see this as a significant diplomatic signal. Nepal has assured India that it will not allow any group to operate from its territory against Indian interests.

Nepal’s public stance also sends a message to other South Asian countries. It underscores the growing regional consensus against state-sponsored terrorism.

Nepal Urges Peace, But Supports India’s Right to Defend

While Nepal supports India’s actions against terror groups, it also called for peace in the region. “We hope for a quick de-escalation and return to dialogue,” the Nepalese ministry said.

Nepal emphasized the importance of regional peace and stability. However, it also acknowledged India’s right to protect its sovereignty and citizens.

The balance in Nepal’s message was seen as thoughtful diplomacy. It aligned firmly with India on terrorism while encouraging both sides to prevent full-scale war.

India Rallies International Support Through Diplomatic Outreach

At the diplomatic level, India has been actively communicating its position to the global community. Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has held a series of talks with global counterparts.

He spoke with the foreign ministers of Italy, the European Union, and the United States. India explained the background of its actions and the events that led to military retaliation.

India highlighted how Pakistan-backed groups planned and executed the Pahalgam attack. The message to the world was clear — India’s response was defensive and targeted only at terror hubs.

According to officials, India continues to reach out to allies in Asia, Europe, and North America. The goal is to build pressure on Pakistan to stop supporting cross-border terror.

Terrorist Attack in Pahalgam Changed the Ground Reality

The current conflict was triggered by a devastating terrorist strike in Pahalgam. A tourist bus was attacked by armed militants using grenades and automatic rifles.

The attackers opened fire indiscriminately, killing 25 Indian civilians and one Nepalese citizen. The incident shocked the nation and led to mass condemnation across political lines.

Intelligence reports indicated that the attack was planned in Pakistan and executed by militants trained in PoK. This led to the Indian government ordering immediate counter-strikes.

Within hours, India launched airstrikes across the LoC and deeper into Pakistani territory. Operation Sindoor began with high-precision drone and fighter jet missions.

Global Reactions to Escalating Conflict

The international community has expressed concern over rising hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The United Nations has urged both sides to exercise restraint.

The United States has called for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan. European nations have supported India’s right to defend itself but also pushed for peace.

China has issued a neutral statement, asking both countries to avoid war. Russia has offered to mediate if requested.

India has welcomed support against terrorism but has ruled out third-party intervention.

Pakistan Denies Involvement, But Faces Global Pressure

Pakistan’s official stance has been to deny involvement in the Pahalgam attack. It has accused India of fabricating the incident to justify cross-border operations.

However, global intelligence networks and independent observers have corroborated India’s claims. Evidence presented by Indian agencies shows linkages between the attackers and Pakistan-based groups.

This mounting pressure has put Islamabad in a difficult position diplomatically.

Security High in Northern Indian States

Following the exchange of attacks, security has been heightened across northern India. Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan are on high alert.

Military bases and airports have stepped up surveillance. Schools and colleges in some border districts have been temporarily closed.

Indian Air Force and Army units are on standby for further action. National highways near the border have seen increased troop movement.

States like Gujarat and Haryana have also activated emergency response protocols.

Civilian Population Remains Calm Amidst Crisis

Despite the rising tension, the civilian population has shown calm and discipline. People have followed blackout instructions in sensitive districts. Social media has seen widespread messages of solidarity with the armed forces.

Relief teams and medical units have been stationed across high-risk areas. The Home Ministry has coordinated with local governments to ensure public safety.

Authorities have asked citizens not to spread rumours or panic-inducing content online.

A Crucial Moment in South Asian Geopolitics

The current situation represents a defining moment in South Asia’s security landscape. India’s clear military and diplomatic posture signals zero tolerance toward terrorism.

Nepal’s support has bolstered India’s position regionally. The stand taken by Nepal, traditionally non-aligned, holds symbolic value in the region’s diplomatic circles.

As India continues its security operations, global attention remains fixed on developments along the border. Whether this escalates into a larger conflict or paves the way for diplomacy depends on the coming days.
