Vijay Targets DMK and BJP, Announces Candidacy from Madurai East for 2026 Elections

Vijay Targets DMK and BJP, Announces Candidacy from Madurai East for 2026

Tamil cinema superstar and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has officially announced that he will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections from Madurai East constituency. Speaking at TVK’s second state-level conference in Parapathi, Madurai, Vijay addressed thousands of supporters and launched a scathing attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The actor-politician declared that his party would neither form alliances nor enter secret deals with any party. He described the BJP as the “ideological enemy” of TVK and labeled the DMK as a “political enemy.”

Vijay Rejects Alliances with DMK and BJP

Vijay made it clear that TVK would not compromise its principles for electoral gains. He stated that DMK pretends to oppose BJP but in reality maintains secret ties with it. According to Vijay, this “double-faced politics” cheats the people of Tamil Nadu.

Vijay told the gathering that TVK was different from conventional parties. He asserted that his party would never engage in opportunistic deals. Instead, TVK aimed to bring honesty, transparency, and a fresh political option to Tamil Nadu. He added that women, youth, and ordinary citizens were standing firmly with TVK.

“A Lion Hunts, It Never Plays” – Vijay’s Fiery Speech

During his 35-minute speech, Vijay used the metaphor of a lion to define his political mission. He said a lion knows how to live in a crowd and survive alone. A lion hunts only for survival, not entertainment. Vijay stressed that his fight was to create a new political alternative for the people.

He reminded supporters that TVK was built to provide a ground-level movement, not a top-down structure. He said people were tired of corruption, dynasty politics, and failed promises.

Madurai Show of Strength

The Madurai event was designed as a massive show of strength by TVK. Thousands of party workers and fans arrived from across Tamil Nadu to attend the rally.

On stage, giant cut-outs of CN Annadurai, founder of DMK, and MG Ramachandran, founder of AIADMK, were displayed alongside Vijay’s. Banners highlighted the years 1967 and 1977, when DMK and AIADMK captured power, hinting at TVK’s ambition to rewrite history.

The event showcased TVK’s organizational capacity and Vijay’s rising political momentum. The enthusiastic crowd signaled that his entry into politics was being taken seriously at the grassroots level.

Direct Attack on CM M.K. Stalin

Vijay strongly criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the DMK government. He accused DMK of corruption, nepotism, and anti-people policies.

He alleged that the DMK government failed to fulfill promises made to women, government employees, and the public. Vijay used sharp words against Stalin, saying, “Having bravery in your name is not enough, you must show it in work.”

He argued that DMK had misled people by making lofty claims but failing in governance.

BJP as Ideological Opponent

The BJP also came under Vijay’s attack. He declared that BJP could never succeed in Tamil Nadu by insulting Periyar, Annadurai, and other revered leaders. Tamil Nadu, he said, is a secular land, and divisive politics would never thrive here.

Vijay accused the central government of ignoring Tamil Nadu’s fishermen, who have repeatedly faced attacks near Sri Lankan waters. He demanded that India reclaim Katchatheevu island from Sri Lanka, reviving a longstanding demand in Tamil Nadu politics.

He also opposed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), calling it an unjust system that hurts rural students.

TVK’s 2026 Roadmap

Vijay announced that TVK would contest all 234 assembly seats in the 2026 elections. He urged supporters to see every TVK candidate as one of their own.

The party has already declared Vijay as its chief ministerial candidate for 2026. A statewide tour is scheduled between September and December, during which Vijay will directly engage with voters.

TVK has set an ambitious goal of enrolling two crore members. The party also plans to expand its presence at the grassroots level through rallies and public meetings.

Vijay’s Position as a Political Alternative

By positioning TVK as an alternative to both DMK and AIADMK, Vijay is attempting to disrupt Tamil Nadu’s bipolar political structure. He said that his party would represent clean politics, untainted by corruption and opportunism.

According to him, Tamil Nadu has long been stuck between DMK and AIADMK. TVK seeks to present a new, people-focused leadership. He emphasized that youth and women were central to his movement.

The Lion Metaphor and Political Messaging

Vijay’s repeated use of the lion metaphor was deliberate. He wanted to project himself as a fearless leader who fights only for just causes. By comparing TVK’s rise to a lion’s hunt, he tried to establish an image of strength and determination.

This symbolism also served to distinguish him from leaders who, in his words, engage in “political games.”

Criticism of Dynastic Politics

Vijay accused DMK of promoting dynastic politics. He argued that power in Tamil Nadu had been confined to a few families for decades. He promised that TVK would open political space for ordinary citizens rather than protecting political dynasties.

This message resonated strongly with the younger crowd, who cheered throughout his speech.

Economic and Social Issues Raised

Beyond political attacks, Vijay highlighted several pressing issues. He said Tamil Nadu’s economy had been mismanaged under DMK. He promised that TVK would prioritize job creation, education reforms, and women’s empowerment.

He accused DMK of failing government employees and of breaking promises regarding welfare schemes. He also condemned BJP for ignoring state-specific demands such as fishermen’s rights and Katchatheevu.

Reactions to Vijay’s Speech

Political analysts see Vijay’s Madurai speech as his formal entry into electoral politics. By announcing his constituency, rejecting alliances, and unveiling a roadmap, he has placed TVK firmly in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

DMK dismissed his remarks as rhetoric, while BJP leaders accused him of being inconsistent. However, TVK supporters hailed the speech as historic.

Social media platforms saw hashtags like #VijayMaduraiSpeech and #TVK2026 trending, showing the impact of his announcement.

Historical Context

The references to 1967 and 1977 were strategic. Those years marked turning points when DMK and AIADMK rose to power. By invoking those milestones, Vijay positioned TVK as the next wave of political change in Tamil Nadu.

Analysts noted that Vijay’s strategy mirrors MGR’s political journey, where cinema fame translated into political capital.

The Challenge Ahead

Despite the enthusiasm, experts warn that building a strong political base requires more than popularity. Vijay will need strong candidates, effective organization, and grassroots networks to challenge DMK and AIADMK.

Tamil Nadu’s politics is deeply rooted in welfare schemes and local party structures. For TVK to succeed, it must move beyond rhetoric and deliver concrete policy promises.

Vijay’s Madurai speech marks a significant shift in Tamil Nadu politics. His decision to contest from Madurai East and his rejection of alliances with DMK and BJP underline his independent stance.

By attacking corruption, dynasty politics, and divisive policies, he has framed TVK as a people-centric alternative. His lion metaphor resonated with supporters and projected an image of strength.

As 2026 approaches, the question remains whether Vijay can convert his massive fan following into sustained political support. For now, his entry has energized the political landscape and created a buzz across Tamil Nadu.
