Mahakumbh 2025 Concludes: Sangam to Remain Open for Pilgrims Year-Round with Improved Facilities

KKN Gurugram Desk | The grand Mahakumbh 2025 officially concluded with the Maha Shivratri Snan Parv (holy bath festival) on Wednesday. However, Sangam in Prayagraj will continue to welcome pilgrims throughout the year. Authorities have decided to maintain essential facilities like electricity, sanitation, drinking water, and security at Sangam and its surrounding areas.

Pilgrims to Visit Sangam Year-Round

Over the years, the trend of year-round pilgrimage to Sangam has increased. Except for the monsoon season when flood risks are high, devotees visit the Triveni Sangam (confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers) in large numbers. Mahakumbh 2025 has further enhanced the global recognition of Sangam as a spiritual and tourist destination.

With the increasing footfall of tourists and pilgrims, authorities have decided to ensure that basic facilities remain available for visitors. This includes maintaining sanitation, electricity, drinking water, and safety measures in the area.

Massive Crowds Expected Even After Mahakumbh

During Mahakumbh, Sangam witnessed millions of devotees taking holy dips throughout the festival. Even after the event, a significant number of devotees are expected to visit, many of whom were waiting for the crowd to subside. Officials have assured that the facilities will remain operational for these visitors.

Additionally, Prayagraj has now been included in the spiritual tourism circuit along with Kashi (Varanasi) and Ayodhya. As a result, travel agencies are now offering special tour packages covering these religious destinations.

Improved Infrastructure at Sangam and Surrounding Areas

Considering the ongoing influx of devotees and tourists, the district administration and mela authorities have decided to continue several infrastructure developments:

  • Pathways and platforms will remain intact for easy movement.
  • Electricity, sanitation, and drinking water facilities will be maintained year-round.
  • Shops near Sangam and Kila Ghat will continue operating to ensure pilgrims get food and essential supplies.
  • Increased security arrangements will be in place to ensure safety.
  • Adequate parking space will be available, with additional parking at Parade Ground if needed.

Cleanup Operations in Mela Area Post Mahakumbh

With the conclusion of Mahakumbh 2025, the process of dismantling temporary structures, tents, and camps has already begun. In the Jhunsi and Nagvasuki zones, most camps have been removed or are in the process of being cleared.

By Thursday, major camps and pandals at Sangam, Parade Ground, and Arail areas will also be removed. Authorities estimate that within a week, all temporary structures will be dismantled, and the Mela area will be completely cleared.
