KKN Gurugram Desk | The government of Bihar is rapidly advancing towards its commitment to creating 12 lakh government jobs, a pledge made under the “double-engine” government framework. After announcing the recruitment of 19,838 constables in the police department, the state government is now focusing on the health sector, with Health Minister Mangal Pandey unveiling major reforms aimed at enhancing healthcare services across the state.

On Thursday, while discussing the health department’s budget, Minister Mangal Pandey made significant announcements. These included the creation of 66,108 new positions in the health department and the establishment of 1,500 new hospitals in rural areas. These steps are part of the government’s ambitious plan to improve healthcare accessibility, particularly in underdeveloped and remote regions of Bihar.

66,108 Health Sector Job Openings in Bihar

Health Minister Mangal Pandey confirmed that the Bihar government is pushing ahead with a large-scale recruitment drive to fill 66,108 positions in the health sector. Out of these, 38,733 positions will be for regular appointments in various categories, significantly boosting the state’s healthcare workforce. This will help strengthen the existing infrastructure and ensure the availability of qualified professionals to cater to the needs of the growing population.

Along with the regular positions, the government has also announced the appointment of 27,375 Asha (Accredited Social Health Activists) workers across rural and urban areas. These workers will play a crucial role in promoting healthcare and assisting in primary healthcare services, especially in remote areas. The inclusion of Asha facilitators reflects the government’s approach to enhance grassroots healthcare delivery, making it more accessible to the public.

New Medical Colleges in Seven Districts

Another major development that was highlighted by Minister Pandey was the plan to establish new medical colleges in seven districts of Bihar. These medical colleges will be set up in the districts of Araria, Jehanabad, Banka, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Khagaria, and Nawada. The approval for these medical colleges has already been granted, and once completed, the number of medical colleges in Bihar will rise to 34.

The establishment of these new institutions will not only increase the availability of medical education but also address the shortage of qualified healthcare professionals in the state. By increasing the number of medical colleges, the government hopes to provide better opportunities for local students to pursue medical education, reducing the need to migrate to other states for higher education in healthcare.

1,500 New Hospitals to Be Opened by 2025-26

The Bihar government is also making significant strides in improving healthcare infrastructure across the state. In a bid to expand healthcare services in rural areas, Minister Mangal Pandey announced plans to open over 1,500 new hospitals by 2025-26. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance healthcare access, especially in rural and underserved areas, where healthcare facilities are limited or non-existent.

The establishment of these hospitals will improve the state’s ability to cater to a growing population and ensure that essential healthcare services are available to those in need. The plan includes upgrading existing infrastructure, improving facilities, and ensuring that each hospital is equipped with the necessary medical resources to provide quality healthcare.

Specialized Hospitals in Patna, Begusarai, and Nawada

In addition to the new hospitals, the government has outlined plans for the establishment of specialized medical centers. One notable project is the creation of a 100-bed pediatric hospital in Patna. This specialized facility will focus on children’s health, addressing the growing demand for pediatric care in the state.

Furthermore, the establishment of cancer hospitals in Begusarai and Nawada is another important development. These hospitals will be part of the broader effort to improve cancer care in Bihar, which has long been an underserved area. The government has already approved the proposal for these hospitals, ensuring that individuals suffering from cancer will have access to specialized care close to their homes, without needing to travel long distances to other states.

Bihar Cancer and Research Society

In line with its health reforms, the Bihar government has also sanctioned the establishment of the Bihar Cancer and Research Society. This new society will be responsible for coordinating efforts in cancer prevention, treatment, and research across the state. The establishment of this society is expected to contribute to advancements in cancer care, research, and education, making it a critical addition to the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

The creation of the Bihar Cancer and Research Society also aligns with the government’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes and investing in the long-term health and well-being of the state’s residents.

The Importance of Health Sector Reforms in Bihar

Bihar, traditionally one of the most underserved states in India in terms of healthcare facilities, is undergoing significant reforms under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. With these announcements, the state is making strides to fill the gap in healthcare infrastructure, medical education, and employment.

The 66,108 new positions in the health sector will not only address the immediate need for medical professionals but will also contribute to long-term improvements in the quality of healthcare services. The state’s commitment to improving healthcare access, particularly in rural areas, will have a lasting impact on the health outcomes of its population.

The decision to establish new medical colleges and specialized hospitals in key areas like Patna, Begusarai, and Nawada is a welcome step towards improving specialized care for diseases like cancer. The opening of 1,500 new hospitals by 2025-26 is a bold initiative that will significantly enhance the state’s healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to a larger portion of the population.

Impact on Employment and Local Economy

The health sector reforms also have a direct impact on employment in Bihar. With over 66,000 new job openings in the health sector, the state is offering substantial employment opportunities. This initiative will provide jobs to thousands of professionals in various fields, including doctors, nurses, medical staff, and administrative personnel.

Additionally, the establishment of new medical colleges, hospitals, and research institutions will create a ripple effect on the local economy. These institutions will not only provide employment but will also stimulate the economy by encouraging investments in healthcare and related industries. The development of healthcare infrastructure can also attract private investments and foster partnerships with national and international healthcare organizations.

The Bihar government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is rapidly working towards fulfilling its promise of creating 12 lakh government jobs. With the announcement of over 66,000 job openings in the health sector, along with the establishment of new medical colleges and specialized hospitals, Bihar is taking significant steps towards improving healthcare infrastructure and services in the state.
