KKN Gurugram Desk | The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) released the Class 10 Board Results 2025 earlier this week. While the overall pass percentage in the state improved marginally compared to last year, the results from several government schools have raised serious concerns.

In an alarming development, seven schools recorded a 0% pass rate, with all students failing the exam, despite having full teaching staff. An additional 54 schools reported over 50% failure rate, prompting the Jharkhand Education Department to order an immediate investigation into the matter.

Shocking Data: Seven Schools Record 100% Failure

According to the official data shared by the Department of School Education and Literacy, the following schools had no student pass the Class 10 exam:

 Schools with 0% Pass Rate:

  1. Model School, Paljori, Gumla

  2. Upgraded High School, Shikaripara, Dumka

  3. R. Mitra High School, Deoghar

  4. Mithila High School, Sonari, East Singhbhum

  5. Government High School, Birsa Nagar, East Singhbhum

  6. Michael John Girls High School, Golmuri, East Singhbhum

  7. Upgraded High School, Songra, West Singhbhum

These schools have fully staffed faculties. For instance, R. Mitra High School in Deoghar reportedly has 33 teachers, yet all eight students who appeared for the exam failed.

Government Response: Department Orders Full-Scale Probe

Taking serious note of the dismal performance, Uma Shankar Singh, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, has directed:

  • Immediate show-cause notices to the headmasters of the seven schools

  • Suspension or transfer orders based on inquiry reports

  • Ground-level inspections by district magistrates

  • A comprehensive academic performance audit

A detailed report has been sent to district collectors of all 24 districts in Jharkhand, highlighting performance lapses and anomalies. Singh emphasized that while the state average result has improved, these outliers cannot be ignored.

Overall Performance: State Sees Slight Improvement

Despite these anomalies, Jharkhand’s overall Class 10 result shows a 1.3% increase in the pass percentage compared to the previous year. However, the number of failed students is still high.

Total Students Failed in JAC 10th 2025:

35,729 students did not pass the examination this year.

These figures indicate the need for targeted academic interventions in underperforming districts and schools.

District-Wise Decline: Seven Districts See Drop in Pass Percentage

Even as the state average improved, seven districts reported a decline in their overall pass percentages, indicating regional disparities in educational outcomes.

Districts with Decline in Performance:

  • East Singhbhum

  • Seraikela-Kharsawan

  • Gumla

  • Lohardaga

  • Simdega

  • Khunti

  • West Singhbhum (worst-hit with a 6% drop)

These districts will now come under special academic review, and additional support programs may be rolled out.

More Than Half Students Fail in 54 Schools

Besides the seven schools with 100% failure, 54 schools have recorded a failure rate of more than 50%, which includes institutions from urban as well as remote tribal regions.

Education authorities have identified a pattern of:

  • Poor academic monitoring

  • Lack of student attendance

  • Inefficient remedial programs

These schools will undergo academic counseling and faculty assessment.

The Brighter Side: 51 Schools Score 100% First Division Results

Not all news is grim. There are institutions that have shown exemplary academic performance.

 High-Performing Schools Highlights:

  • 51 schools had all their students pass with First Division

  • Out of these, 24 schools repeated their perfect record from last year

  • 777 schools achieved 100% pass rate overall

  • Among them, 261 schools had achieved 100% pass rates in 2024 as well

The state government will felicitate the principals and teaching staff of these schools in an upcoming education summit.

What’s Behind the Failure? Key Factors Under Scrutiny

The Education Department has listed multiple areas of concern to be investigated:

 Likely Causes of Poor Performance:

  • Non-utilization of smart classrooms and resources

  • Irregular classroom sessions

  • Unmotivated faculty despite being fully staffed

  • Lack of remedial or bridge courses for weak students

  • Poor student-teacher ratio in certain tribal districts

These findings may also influence the state’s future teacher recruitment, transfer policies, and infrastructure funding.

What Happens Next? Department’s Action Plan

The Jharkhand government has announced a three-tier response:

  1. Immediate Administrative Action

    • Show-cause and suspension notices to negligent staff

    • Restructuring academic leadership in failing schools

  2. Academic Support & Mentorship

    • Appointing mentors for underperforming schools

    • Allocating funds for extra classes and tutorials

  3. Policy Review

    • Reworking curriculum planning

    • Better use of data analytics to track progress school-wise

The JAC 10th Result 2025 offers both hope and concern. While many schools have performed admirably and contributed to a slight improvement in the overall state pass rate, the complete failure in some institutions has drawn sharp criticism.

This sharp contrast calls for deep systemic reform, not just disciplinary action. The government’s decision to investigate and reward simultaneously shows a balanced accountability model — punishing neglect while celebrating effort.

Only time will tell if these measures will bring about lasting change in Jharkhand’s government school system, but the spotlight is now firmly on performance transparency and institutional responsibility.
