Shocking Murder in Gaya: Cousin Kills Relative Over Property Dispute

Published on

In a tragic incident on the night of Vijayadashami, a 35-year-old man named Deepak was shot dead by his cousin in Gaya district. The shocking murder took place in the Nai Bazaar locality of the Sherghati police station area. The accused, identified as Rajesh, allegedly killed Deepak after a long-standing dispute over ancestral property.

The Murder and Confession

According to police reports, the deceased, Deepak, was unmarried. The incident occurred when Rajesh invited Deepak to his house for a liquor party. During the gathering, Rajesh allegedly shot Deepak four times using a country-made pistol. After committing the crime, Rajesh did not attempt to flee. Instead, he walked into the Sherghati police station and openly confessed to killing his “brother.”

Rajesh reportedly told the police officers that Deepak’s body was lying in his room. Following his confession, a police team was dispatched to the location, where they found Deepak’s blood-soaked body. Along with the body, the police recovered four cartridges and the weapon used in the murder. The news of the killing quickly spread, and a crowd gathered outside Rajesh’s house as the situation unfolded.

Property Dispute Behind the Crime

Investigations into the murder revealed a bitter dispute between the two cousins over property that was left behind by their late uncle, Dwarika Prasad. About 35 years ago, Dwarika Prasad had found an abandoned infant at the Sherghati bus stand. He took the child in, adopted him, and named him Deepak. Dwarika raised Deepak as his own son, and before his death, he transferred his property, including a guest house, to Deepak through a will.

While Deepak had rented out the guest house to earn a living, Rajesh, who was also a relative, became resentful of Deepak’s inheritance. Rajesh reportedly felt excluded from the property and the benefits that came with it. Police suspect that this long-standing resentment and frustration eventually led Rajesh to commit the brutal act.

The Murder Plot

On the evening of Vijayadashami, Rajesh invited Deepak to his home under the pretext of a friendly liquor gathering. After spending time together, Rajesh allegedly followed through with his plan and shot Deepak four times in the chest. Deepak died instantly from the gunshot wounds.

Police believe that the liquor party was simply a ruse, and Rajesh used the opportunity to carry out the murder. The motive, as per initial investigations, revolves around the property dispute that had been simmering between the two for years. Rajesh’s anger and resentment over the property were clearly evident in his actions.

Police Investigation

After Rajesh’s confession, authorities arrested him and began further investigations. Trainee DSP Abhishek Kumar, who is also the Sherghati station chief, confirmed the murder and provided an initial statement. He stated, “A young man named Deepak has been murdered. The accused has surrendered himself. Preliminary investigations suggest a property dispute as the motive, but further questioning is underway.”

Police have already begun questioning Rajesh in more detail to uncover the full extent of his motives and actions. They are also looking into the details of the property dispute and how long Rajesh harbored ill feelings toward Deepak.

Public Reaction and Aftermath

The murder shocked the local community, with many expressing disbelief that a family member would commit such an act. The incident sparked discussions about property disputes and family feuds in the area, with locals voicing concerns about how such conflicts could escalate to violence. The police presence in the area has increased, and authorities are keen to ensure that no further incidents occur as a result of this tragic event.

This tragic murder in Gaya highlights the destructive potential of unresolved family disputes, especially when they involve inherited property. Rajesh’s drastic decision to take his cousin’s life over a property disagreement is a stark reminder of how unchecked resentment can lead to violence. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details of the incident and the dynamics between the accused and the victim.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are hopeful that this case will serve as a cautionary tale about the importance of resolving family disputes amicably, before they escalate into deadly violence. Rajesh remains in custody, and the authorities are awaiting further developments.
