Chirag Paswan’s LJP (RV) Finalizes 29 Candidates for 2025 Bihar Elections Amidst NDA Tensions

Published on

As the political landscape in Bihar heats up ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners are in the final stages of seat-sharing and candidate selection. Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s party, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP(RV)], which secured 29 seats in the NDA’s seat-sharing formula, is reportedly finalizing its list of candidates. However, internal tensions within the alliance have led to delays in official announcements, with a joint press conference scheduled for Monday being postponed at the last minute.

NDA Seat-Sharing Formula and LJP(RV)’s Strategy

The NDA seat-sharing agreement for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has been a point of intense negotiation. The overall formula allocates 243 seats in total. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] are set to contest 101 seats each, while the smaller allies have been allotted the remaining seats. LJP(RV) has secured 29 seats, with the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) each receiving 6 seats.

According to sources, Chirag Paswan is carefully curating his list of candidates to ensure caste balance and introduce fresh, young faces into the electoral fray. This strategy is part of his effort to strengthen LJP(RV)’s position in the upcoming elections and appeal to a broader voter base. Along with fresh faces, several prominent candidates from influential local political families are expected to be included on the list.

Potential LJP(RV) Candidates for 2025 Bihar Elections

LJP(RV) has been making strategic selections for constituencies where the party believes it can make a strong impact. Some of the key candidates for the upcoming elections include:

  • Madhaura: Saif Ali Khan (Son of Ayub Khan)

  • Brahmapur: Hulas Pandey (Brother of former MLA Sunil Pandey)

  • Sahebpur Kamal: Surendra Vivek

  • Lalganj: Rama Singh or Shweta Singh (Rama Singh or his daughter)

  • Morwa: Abhay Singh

  • Simri Bakhtiyarpur: Sanjay Singh

  • Rajapakad: Mrinal Paswan’s son

  • Gai Ghat: Komal (Daughter of MP Veena Devi)

  • Danapur: Randhir Yadav (Son of Lalu Yadav’s brother-in-law Subhash Yadav)

  • Fatuha: Abhimanyu Yadav (Son of Ramkripal Yadav)

  • Bakhri: Sanjay Paswan

  • Arwal: Sunil Yadav

  • Makhdumpur: Rani Chaudhary

  • Agiaon: Jyoti Devi

  • Hayaghat: Shahnawaz Ahmed Kaifi

  • Rajgir: Parshuram Paswan

  • Hilsa: Kumari Deepika (Wife of Ranjit Don)

  • Ekma: Kameshwar Singh alias Munna

  • Obra: Prakash Chandra

  • Gaya: Shyam Dev Paswan

  • Kadwa: Vibhuti Paswan

  • Balrampur: Sangeeta Kumari

  • Sonbarsa: Reena Paswan

  • Hisua: Dhirendra Munna

  • Kasba: Shankar Jha Baba

  • Sugauli: (Name pending)

These candidates are part of the LJP(RV)’s broader plan to bolster its presence in Bihar’s competitive political environment. Many of these names have ties to influential political families, suggesting that Paswan is relying on established local leaders to help strengthen the party’s appeal in specific regions.

Discontent Among Junior Allies in NDA

While LJP(RV) is finalizing its candidate list, there has been visible discontent among other junior allies within the NDA. The seat-sharing formula has led to frustration, particularly for the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) led by Upendra Kushwaha. Sources close to Kushwaha indicate that he is dissatisfied with the allocation of only six seats to his party. Kushwaha’s discontent reflects concerns within smaller factions of the NDA, who feel that they have been marginalized in the seat distribution process.

In contrast, Jitan Ram Manjhi, the leader of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), has taken a more measured approach. Despite his party being limited to six seats, Manjhi has publicly stated that he will continue to support the NDA “under all circumstances.” This statement has quelled rumors of an imminent exit from the alliance, despite any internal dissatisfaction within his party.

The delay in the scheduled press conference and the ongoing tensions between the NDA partners suggest that seat-sharing and candidate selection may continue to be contentious issues. However, for now, the focus remains on finalizing the lists and making the necessary adjustments to address the concerns of all coalition members.

Challenges for the NDA in Bihar

The NDA’s seat-sharing formula for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has not been without its challenges. While the BJP and JD(U) have secured the lion’s share of seats, the smaller allies are left to contend with a smaller number of constituencies. This has caused unease among some of the junior parties, who feel their political influence is being sidelined.

For LJP(RV), the situation is different. Chirag Paswan’s leadership and his strategy of focusing on caste balance and young candidates have positioned the party as a key player in the alliance. By selecting candidates with strong local ties and familial political connections, Paswan hopes to consolidate the LJP(RV)’s voter base while also appealing to a broader section of the electorate.

However, the political environment in Bihar remains volatile. The ongoing dissatisfaction among coalition partners and the internal debates within the NDA suggest that the alliance could face further challenges in the lead-up to the elections. For Paswan and other alliance leaders, the task will be to address these concerns and ensure that the NDA remains united in its bid for the upcoming elections.

The Road Ahead for LJP(RV) and NDA

As the NDA finalizes its candidates and prepares for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, much of the focus will be on how the coalition handles its internal divisions. For LJP(RV), the party’s strategy of introducing fresh faces while also leveraging local political networks will be crucial in securing a good performance. Chirag Paswan’s leadership will be tested as he navigates the complexities of alliance politics and attempts to balance the interests of his party with those of the larger NDA coalition.

The political dynamics in Bihar will undoubtedly evolve in the coming weeks. The NDA’s ability to resolve its internal disputes and present a united front will play a critical role in determining the success of the alliance in the upcoming elections. The LJP(RV), with its strategic candidate selections, will be looking to make significant inroads in key constituencies, aiming to strengthen its hold in Bihar’s political landscape.

The finalization of the seat-sharing agreement for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has set the stage for an intense and competitive political battle. While LJP(RV) prepares to announce its list of 29 candidates, the NDA faces growing tensions within its ranks, with junior allies expressing dissatisfaction over seat allocations. The internal dynamics of the NDA will play a pivotal role in shaping the election outcomes. For Chirag Paswan and his party, the focus will be on consolidating their position within the alliance while also addressing the concerns of their coalition partners. The coming weeks will be crucial as the NDA works to finalize its candidates and resolve internal disputes in preparation for the upcoming elections.
