Tejashwi Yadav Slams CM Nitish Kumar After Murders in Patna and Sitamarhi

Published on

The law-and-order situation in Bihar has once again come under scrutiny following back-to-back high-profile murders in Patna and Sitamarhi. The killing of BJP leader Surendra Kewat, a former president of the BJP Kisan Morcha, has sent shockwaves through the political corridors of the state. In a sharp response, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has openly attacked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the ruling NDA alliance, accusing them of total administrative failure.

These incidents are not isolated. They are part of a larger and deeply concerning trend of increasing violent crime in Bihar, which has left both the public and political opponents questioning the effectiveness of the current government.

BJP Leader Shot Dead in Patna: A Pattern of Violence

The murder of Surendra Kewat is just the latest in a string of killings that have rocked Patna. Reports indicate that the senior BJP leader was shot dead in broad daylight, continuing a disturbing pattern of politically and economically motivated killings.

Before Kewat’s death, several other businessmen and notable individuals were assassinated, including:

  • Gopal Khemka, a well-known businessman

  • RamAnand Yadav, a sand trader

  • Vikram Jha, owner of a local mart

The frequency and boldness of these crimes indicate an increasingly lawless environment in Bihar’s capital, where even political affiliations are no longer a shield against rising violence.

Sitamarhi Murder Adds Fuel to the Fire

While Patna was still reeling from the murder of Surendra Kewat, another chilling murder was reported from Sitamarhi district, where a businessman was shot and killed in a similarly brutal fashion.

The back-to-back nature of these murders, especially targeting influential and visible figures, has ignited public outrage and renewed scrutiny over the deteriorating security situation in Bihar.

Tejashwi Yadav’s Fierce Attack on Nitish Government

Reacting strongly to the murders, Tejashwi Yadav took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he launched a scathing critique of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his NDA allies.

“Now even a BJP leader has been shot dead in Patna. Who do we tell, and who will listen? No one in the NDA government wants to hear the truth or take responsibility,” Tejashwi wrote.

He went on to question the state of governance in Bihar, sarcastically asking what the “two incompetent Deputy Chief Ministers from the BJP” were doing while crime continues to surge.

In a loaded remark, he referred to one of BJP’s allies as the “corrupt bhuja-DK party”, demanding to know why they haven’t issued any statement or condemnation over these killings.

“Murders So Frequent, They Can’t Be Counted Anymore”

Tejashwi didn’t stop there. He painted a grim picture of life in Bihar under the current regime.

“There are so many murders happening in Bihar that no one can even keep track anymore. Human life has become cheaper than that of insects,” he stated.

He listed a series of recent murders to underline the extent of the crisis:

  • Businessman murdered in Sitamarhi

  • Shopkeeper shot dead in Patna

  • Nurse gunned down in Nalanda

  • Young man murdered in Khagaria

  • Two murders each in Gaya and Nalanda districts

Tejashwi further alleged that these crimes are being committed by “government-backed goons,” and accused ruling leaders of shielding criminals for political or caste-based reasons.

“Bullets from state-sponsored thugs are flying in every direction, while those in power are busy bargaining and protecting criminals. Meanwhile, NDA leaders and officials are preoccupied with identifying the caste of the perpetrators and victims,” he added.

Political Fallout and Public Reaction

These remarks from the Leader of Opposition have added a new dimension to Bihar’s already volatile political atmosphere. The opposition parties are increasingly framing the crime wave as a sign of governance breakdown under the NDA government.

Political analysts believe that the recent string of killings—especially those targeting both businessmen and political figures—could have long-term electoral consequences if not addressed immediately.

On the ground, public sentiment is increasingly fearful and angry. Citizens have taken to social media, demanding action and accountability from those in power.

Bihar Crime Rate: A Growing Concern

Bihar has a long history of battling crime and corruption, but recent events suggest that the state may be slipping back into its pre-development era image of lawlessness.

Security experts argue that the rising number of daylight murders, business-related killings, and political assassinations is indicative of deeper systemic issues. Poor policing, political interference, and lack of accountability are just a few of the challenges plaguing Bihar’s internal security machinery.

Furthermore, these incidents are damaging the investment climate of the state. With crime headlines dominating the media, the state’s attempts to attract business and tourism are being severely undermined.

Where is the Leadership?

Critics argue that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has remained relatively silent in the wake of these violent crimes. Questions are also being raised about his health and involvement in active governance. While the Chief Minister’s office has not issued a detailed statement on the latest murders, public pressure is mounting for immediate government intervention.

Many are also questioning the role of Deputy CMs from the BJP, whom Tejashwi has referred to as “non-performing” and “incapable of controlling the situation.”

The twin murders in Patna and Sitamarhi are not just isolated tragedies; they are symptoms of a larger law-and-order crisis gripping Bihar. With citizens feeling unsafe and the opposition demanding accountability, the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government finds itself in a precarious position.
