KKN Gurugram Desk | The Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) Election 2025 concluded with a nuanced outcome, highlighting both the sustained dominance of the Left Alliance and the emerging strength of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). In the final results announced early Monday morning, the Left Alliance (AISA-DSF) secured three key central panel positions, while ABVP managed to win the Joint Secretary post and made notable gains across various counselor seats. The election signals a significant shift in JNU’s student politics, traditionally known as a stronghold of left-leaning ideology. Highlights of JNU Election Result 2025 Left Alliance (AISA-DSF) won President, Vice President, and General Secretary positions. ABVP won the Joint Secretary post and performed strongly in counselor elections. Left maintains central dominance but ABVP breaches key academic schools. Voter turnout stood at an impressive 70%, showcasing strong student engagement. Central Panel Results: Who Won What? Vice President: Manisha (DSF) emerged victorious. General Secretary: Munteha Fatima (DSF) clinched the post. Joint Secretary: Vaibhav Meena (ABVP) captured the seat with 1,518 votes. This outcome shows the continued influence of the Left Alliance at the top level, even as ABVP demonstrates growing strength among counselors and at the school levels. ABVP's Historic Performance in JNU Elections One of the biggest takeaways from JNUSU Elections 2025 is ABVP’s inroads into traditional leftist bastions. For the first time in 25 years, ABVP won two seats in the School of Social Sciences (SSS), considered one of the most significant centers of leftist influence in JNU. Moreover, in the School of International Studies (SIS), ABVP secured 2 out of 5 counselor seats, indicating that ideological shifts are taking place in academic centers. Breakdown: Counselor Elections and ABVP’s Surge In total, ABVP claims to have won 23 out of 44 counselor seats across various schools and special centers at JNU. This performance is being hailed by ABVP supporters as an unprecedented success, showing that although the Left holds the central posts, their grassroots influence may be eroding. The Left Alliance’s stronghold over key posts ensures they still wield considerable power at the top, but ABVP’s expansion in the ground-level structure of student representation is notable. Such a high turnout is seen as a sign of the importance students attach to the future direction of JNU’s governance and ideological culture. Change: The ABVP is expanding its footprint, especially in schools and centers, suggesting that an alternative student voice is gaining acceptance. The future may see more competitive elections and shifting alliances, as the traditional strongholds of student politics in JNU face new challenges. Reactions from Political Groups Left Alliance Leaders: Celebrated their victory on key posts and emphasized the commitment to continue representing students' voices against privatization and government interference in educational institutions. ABVP Leaders: Lauded their counselor-level success, calling it a major breakthrough. They emphasized that their growing influence shows that students are seeking change and a new political direction. Both sides have pledged to work for the welfare of students while sticking to their respective ideological commitments.
