The movie marks a significant comeback for her in the Bollywood industry, and she’s excited to once again engage with her fans through her portrayal of a deeply emotional and relatable character. In a recent interview, Genelia shared insights about her journey in landing this role, the challenges she faced with multiple auditions, and why she feels such roles are hard to come by in today’s film industry. Genelia Deshmukh's Return to Bollywood: A Long-Awaited Comeback After a break from the limelight, Genelia Deshmukh is finally returning to Bollywood in Sitaare Zameen Par, where she plays a pivotal role alongside Aamir Khan. This film marks her comeback after a long time, and fans are eager to see her once again on the big screen. In a candid interview, Genelia spoke about her character Sunita, and how landing this role was not a walk in the park. The Audition Process: Genelia’s Persistence and Aamir Khan’s Faith During the interview, Genelia shared an interesting revelation about the audition process for Sitaare Zameen Par. She mentioned that despite being a known face in the industry, she had to audition multiple times to secure the role of Sunita. "When people found out that I was working in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par,’ many exclaimed, ‘Oh my God, you’re working in Aamir Khan’s film, how lucky you are!’" Genelia recalled. She continued, "I told them, it’s Aamir sir’s greatness that he saw something in me. But you too can have such opportunities. You can give me any role, and I will try my best to do it." This candid remark by Genelia highlights her humility and the challenges many actors face, regardless of their experience or background. Despite her established career, Genelia was not immune to the rigorous audition process, proving that even the most talented actors must work hard to prove themselves. Why Roles Like ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ Are Rare Today As the conversation progressed, Genelia opened up about the evolving landscape of the film industry and the shift in casting practices. According to her, the reason why she doesn’t get roles like Sunita in Sitaare Zameen Par anymore is largely due to the changing mindset in the industry. She explained, “You might think that since I am married, I am not the right fit for such roles. I think filmmaking has evolved, so our mentality should evolve too.” This statement sheds light on how married actresses often face a different set of challenges in Bollywood. In an industry that frequently prioritizes youth and physical appearance, older, more mature roles sometimes don’t get as much attention. Genelia, however, emphasizes that talent and maturity should be the key deciding factors when casting for any role, regardless of the actor’s marital status. Casting Practices: Why Age Matters in Roles In the same interview, Genelia talked about the importance of casting the right actor for the right role. She stressed that when filmmakers cast actors who are significantly younger than the character they’re meant to portray, it can result in a disconnect between the character’s depth and the actor’s understanding of it. "It’s very important that if you want a character of a particular age, you should cast someone who reflects that age," she said. Genelia’s words reflect her belief that the industry needs to move beyond the conventional casting practices, which often cast young actors for roles that would be better suited for older, more experienced individuals. By doing so, she believes filmmakers can create more authentic portrayals of characters that resonate with the audience on a deeper level. The Changing Landscape of Bollywood and the Need for More Diverse Roles The casting system in Bollywood has always been a topic of debate, with many actors facing challenges when it comes to landing roles that align with their age, experience, and skill set. Genelia’s comments point to the shift in Bollywood, where age is no longer seen as just a number for female actors. However, despite this progressive outlook, older actresses are still underrepresented in certain types of roles, especially those requiring more depth and substance. In her interview, Genelia also mentioned that the industry has evolved in many ways, and diverse roles that cater to a broader range of characters are becoming more prevalent. Yet, she pointed out that many directors still stick to conventional norms, which sometimes leads to roles being missed for talented actresses like herself. What Does This Mean for the Future of Bollywood Actresses? While Bollywood has seen a positive shift in terms of giving older actresses more substantial roles, there is still room for improvement. Actors like Genelia Deshmukh continue to push for a broader understanding of what makes a character relatable and believable, irrespective of age. The industry must recognize the importance of experience and maturity when casting actors for meaningful roles, especially when it comes to playing characters with a strong emotional core. Genelia’s return to the silver screen with Sitaare Zameen Par is a testament to the fact that there is an audience for such roles, and with the right casting, these types of characters can thrive. It is not just about the physical appearance of the actors, but about their ability to bring authenticity and depth to the character they are portraying. The Film and Its Importance to Genelia Genelia’s role as Sunita in Sitaare Zameen Par holds a special place in her career. After taking a break from the industry, returning with a role in a film by Aamir Khan is a significant opportunity for her. She feels grateful to have worked with Aamir Khan, one of the industry’s most respected figures, and is excited to bring something new to her fans. Despite the challenges she has faced in landing such roles in recent years, this comeback is a reaffirmation of her talent and potential. Sitaare Zameen Par is more than just a film for Genelia Deshmukh; it is a symbol of her resilience and the changing dynamics of Bollywood casting practices. While the industry continues to evolve, actors like Genelia are pushing for more authentic roles that reflect the true essence of age, experience, and emotional depth. Her journey is an inspiration to those who believe that age should not define an actor’s ability to portray meaningful and impactful characters.
