The accused, identified as Dilip Kumar Pandit, is currently absconding, and police have launched a manhunt to arrest him.
Infant Dies, Elder Brother Battling for Life
According to initial reports, the two children—Divyanshu, aged just three months, and Kartik, aged three years—were attacked by their own father while they were asleep. The assailant used a ‘dabia’, a traditional sharp-edged weapon, to strike both children on their necks and hands.
Divyanshu died on the spot, while Kartik sustained severe injuries and is now undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. His condition remains critical.
Trigger: A Domestic Dispute
As per preliminary investigations, the shocking act of violence was allegedly triggered by a domestic dispute between Dilip Kumar Pandit and his wife. The couple reportedly had an argument earlier in the evening, following which Dilip, in a fit of rage, carried out the gruesome attack on his sleeping sons.
The incident has left the local community stunned. Neighbors and relatives, who gathered after hearing the mother’s screams, immediately informed the police.
Accused Father on the Run
Soon after committing the crime, Dilip Pandit fled the scene. The local police, led by Kudhni SHO Ravi Prakash, reached the location shortly after being alerted by villagers. According to the SHO:
“We received the information late at night. Upon reaching the scene, we found one child dead and another critically injured. The accused had already escaped. Villagers were in a state of shock and were initially hesitant to provide detailed information.”
Police confirmed that no formal complaint had been filed at the time, as the mother and other family members were too traumatized to record statements. Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated, and multiple police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused.
Muzaffarpur Domestic Violence Case: A Wake-Up Call
This Muzaffarpur child murder case is a grim reminder of the severe consequences of domestic violence and mental instability when left unaddressed. Local authorities have expressed concern over the rising number of family violence cases in rural Bihar, often exacerbated by unemployment, addiction, and emotional instability.
Local sources confirmed that Dilip Pandit had a history of volatile behavior, although no prior police complaints had been registered against him.
Community in Shock, Demands Justice
The incident has left the residents of Harpur Balda village in complete shock. Many villagers expressed disbelief that a father could commit such a heinous act against his own children.
“We knew there were arguments in the house, but no one ever imagined he could do something like this. The whole village is in mourning,” said one local resident.
Grief and outrage have gripped the community, with many demanding swift action and justice for the children.
Police Response and Next Steps
The Muzaffarpur police have increased patrols in the area and are continuing their efforts to track down the absconding father. A case under IPC Sections related to murder and attempted murder will be registered once the family is in a position to file a complaint.
Meanwhile, Kartik, the surviving child, is being treated at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur. Doctors are monitoring his condition closely and say the next 48 hours will be critical.
Mental Health and Domestic Violence: A Growing Concern
Experts say this case underlines the urgent need for mental health support and domestic counseling services in rural India. Many cases of spousal conflict, depression, and violent outbursts go unreported until tragedy strikes.
Local NGOs working in the region have reiterated the importance of community-based interventions and support systems, especially for families with small children.
Government and Social Reactions
The Bihar State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (BSCPCR) has taken cognizance of the incident. In a press statement, a representative stated:
“This is a heartbreaking incident. We urge the state government to ensure immediate arrest of the accused and financial and medical assistance to the family.”
Leaders from local panchayats have also condemned the crime, urging the administration to intensify efforts to prevent similar tragedies.
The Muzaffarpur double child attack case serves as a dark reminder of how domestic strife can spiral into unimaginable violence. With one child dead and another fighting for life, an entire family has been torn apart by a single moment of uncontrolled rage.
As police continue to track down Dilip Kumar Pandit, all eyes remain on the recovery of young Kartik and the hope that justice will be served swiftly.
