COVID-19 Cases Surge Again: Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra Report New Infections

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | As India had nearly moved past the devastating shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic, new reports of infections across several states have raised public concern and administrative alertness. In recent days, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana have reported new COVID-19 cases, signaling a possible resurgence of the virus in a mild form.

While the numbers remain low compared to earlier waves, the reemergence of infections after a prolonged lull has prompted health authorities to issue new advisories, tighten protocols, and re-evaluate medical preparedness.

Karnataka Reports 35 COVID-19 Cases: Government Calls Situation ‘Not Alarming’

In Karnataka35 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed so far, according to the state’s Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Speaking to the media, he clarified that there is no cause for panic, although the administration is keeping a close watch.

“There’s been a slight rise in COVID cases, but it is not an alarming situation. The government has already issued an advisory and is prepared for any further developments,” said Rao.

The advisory includes:

  • Enhanced surveillance in hospitals and testing centers

  • Monitoring of patients with flu-like symptoms

  • Coordination with private hospitals to report unusual spikes

Delhi Records 23 Fresh COVID-19 Cases: Government on High Alert

Delhi, the national capital, reported 23 new COVID-19 infections recently, marking a concerning uptick after nearly three years of minimal to zero cases.

In response, the Delhi Health Department has directed all hospitals—both government and private—to ensure:

  • Adequate oxygen supply

  • Availability of beds and essential medicines

  • Updated stock of COVID vaccines

While no hospitalizations have been reported yet, the preparedness plan includes reactivating some dedicated COVID facilities if the situation escalates.

Haryana Detects 4 New COVID-19 Cases: Gurugram and Faridabad Affected

In Haryanafour new COVID-19 cases were confirmed—two from Gurugram and two from Faridabad. Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao assured the public that the situation remains under control and that necessary medical arrangements have been made.

“There is no need to panic. We are monitoring the situation closely and have made all necessary arrangements for treatment and testing,” Rao said.

Local health departments have been advised to increase surveillance in crowded areas and conduct random testing in high-risk zones like schools, malls, and transport hubs.

Maharashtra’s Thane Reports 10 Cases in 3 Days: Civic Body on Alert

In Maharashtra, particularly in the Thane district10 new COVID-19 cases have emerged in the last three days. The municipal corporation has issued instructions to all city hospitals to remain vigilant and prepared.

Officials confirmed that:

  • All the patients exhibited mild symptoms

  • None required hospitalization

  • All infected individuals are undergoing home isolation

The civic body has requested citizens to avoid panic but to continue practicing basic preventive measures, including:

  • Mask-wearing in crowded places

  • Regular hand hygiene

  • Avoiding unnecessary gatherings

Telangana Reports One Case in Hyderabad: Patient Recovers Fully

In Telangana, a single case of COVID-19 was reported from Kukatpally, Hyderabad. The patient, a local doctor, followed the five-day isolation protocol and is now fully recovered. All close contacts were traced and tested; none have tested positive.

This isolated case prompted the state’s health department to issue a containment protocol reminder, especially for medical professionals and frontline workers.

Analysis: Is This the Start of a New COVID-19 Wave in India?

The current spike in cases, although small in scale, is drawing attention because:

  • It comes after a long period of minimal infections

  • It involves multiple states simultaneously

  • It may coincide with changing weather patterns, which typically influence flu and respiratory illnesses

Key Observations:

  • All reported cases are mild and manageable at home

  • No deaths or ICU-level cases have been reported

  • Most states have reactivated advisory mechanisms but not restrictions

Health experts suggest:

  • Monitoring the mutation profile of the virus strains involved

  • Enhancing wastewater surveillance to detect viral presence

  • Continuing booster vaccinations for high-risk groups

Public Advisory: What You Should Know and Do

Though the government has not imposed restrictions, personal vigilance is advised:

 Precautionary Measures:

  • Wear a mask in crowded or closed public places

  • Maintain hand hygiene using sanitizers or soap

  • Avoid attending gatherings if feeling unwell

  • Encourage vaccination for elderly and immunocompromised individuals

 What to Avoid:

  • Spreading rumors on social media

  • Ignoring flu-like symptoms

  • Delaying medical consultation if needed

State governments have reassured citizens that hospital infrastructure is adequate, and essential services will continue without interruption.

Central Government’s Role: Prepared but Watchful

The Union Health Ministry is closely tracking developments and is expected to issue a nationwide advisory if the trend continues.

Key focus areas for the Centre:

  • Weekly data collection from state health departments

  • Genome sequencing of active cases

  • Assessment of hospital preparedness across metro and tier-2 cities

The Ministry is also in consultation with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for up-to-date virological assessments.

COVID-19 Cases as of 24 May 2025: State-Wise Summary

State New Cases Reported Comments
Karnataka 35 Minor increase; advisory issued
Delhi 23 First spike in nearly 3 years
Haryana 4 Gurugram and Faridabad; under control
Maharashtra 10 Reported in Thane; all mild cases
Telangana 1 Hyderabad case; fully recovered

Total Cases (Recent Days)73+ across five states

The reappearance of COVID-19 cases in India, though not yet a full-blown wave, signals the need for renewed public awareness and preparedness. Governments at both state and central levels are taking proactive measures, and the health infrastructure is better equipped than in previous outbreaks.

For now, the key lies in responsible behavior—avoiding panic, following preventive practices, and staying updated with credible information from government health authorities.
