Bihar Weather Today: Monsoon Retreat Signals Onset of Winter Chill

Published on

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed a significant weather change in Bihar. The era of the Monsoon has now officially ended in the region. This important confirmation means that winter’s arrival is clearly palpable now. Several districts in Bihar are experiencing gentle, cool breezes during mornings and evenings. A thin, light sheet of fog is starting to appear.

The IMD formally confirmed the commencement of the Monsoon’s official withdrawal from Bihar. This change indicates a prolonged period of ‘no rain days’ for the state. Consequently, the temperature will begin its gradual and steady decline. By the fourth week of October, cold air masses will start entering Bihar from the north-west. This influx will firmly establish the beginning of the winter season.

According to the IMD, the south-west Monsoon began its retreat on October 10. This withdrawal covered the remaining areas of Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra. It also included most regions of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Crucially, the retreat also encompassed certain parts of Bihar. Conditions are now highly favorable for the complete Monsoon withdrawal from all of Bihar. This is expected to happen over the next three to four days. This development guarantees that the state’s weather will be predominantly dry. Any return of rainfall is currently considered a distant possibility.

The forecast indicates no significant chance of rain across the entire state until October 17. Sunny weather is still expected to dominate the daytime and afternoon hours. However, the air is already filling with a noticeable coolness during the early morning and late evening.

Morning Chill and Fog Enhance Winter Sensation

The rural areas of Bihar are experiencing the first signs of the season. A light layer of fog and a coating of dew are now visible in the mornings. Major urban centers are also feeling the shift. Areas like Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, and Purnia are reporting cool air circulation. This occurs mainly during the early morning and late evening periods.

Weather scientists project a noticeable drop in temperatures. They suggest the nighttime temperature may fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius next week. This drop in temperature is considered the definitive early indicator of winter’s imminent arrival. The daytime still retains a degree of mild warmth. However, as the sun sets, the weather quickly becomes very pleasant and cool. This temperature variation is a classic feature of the post-Monsoon period.

North-West Winds to Intensify Cold in Bihar

The real surge of winter conditions will arrive later. Cold winds will intensify their movement into Bihar from the north-west direction. This is anticipated starting in the fourth week of October. This cold air intrusion will make the onset of severe winter palpable across the entire state. This period will feature a dual change in atmospheric conditions. There will be a simultaneous decrease in humidity and a significant drop in temperature. These combined factors will make the chilling effect much clearer and stronger.

The current humidity level across the state remains within a 70 to 80 percent range. The absence of rainfall is causing a gradual but steady decline in the air’s moisture content. This specific reduction in humidity directly helps in promoting and intensifying the cold weather. Meteorological experts have released their preliminary predictions. They estimate that this year’s winter season might be slightly more intense than the normal average. Therefore, residents should begin making preparations for their winter clothing soon.

Prepare for Bihar’s Winter: Health and Wellness Focus

The mornings in Bihar will be increasingly covered by fog and heavy dew over the coming weeks. Therefore, focusing on health and wellness becomes very important now. Special attention is necessary for vulnerable groups. This includes young children and elderly residents. The current weather dynamic presents a challenge. The days are relatively warm while the nights are distinctly cold. This fluctuating temperature pattern increases the risk of common ailments. Conditions like colds and flu become more likely in these circumstances. Residents are advised to adjust their daily routines and clothing. This preparation will help them safely navigate the transition into the full-fledged winter season.
