Bihar Weather Update: Minimal Chances of Heavy Rainfall Today

Published on

The weather in Bihar today, October 6, shows a significant reduction in the chances of heavy rainfall. While there is a slight possibility of light to moderate showers in the eastern districts, the overall chances of intense weather conditions are minimal. The regions of Kishanganj, Purnia, Bhagalpur, and Jamui, covering all 12 districts in East Bihar, are expected to experience mild to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may also occur, which has prompted the issuance of a Yellow Alert in these areas.

In the rest of the state, light rainfall can be anticipated, though no alerts have been issued for those regions. As the day progresses, sunny spells are expected, leading to a gradual rise in temperatures. The overall intensity of rain will continue to decrease as the day unfolds.

The Aftermath of Recent Heavy Rainfall

After three days of torrential rainfall, residents of Bihar have finally found some respite. The period of intense and extremely heavy rains has passed, and a decrease in the rainfall activity is expected moving forward. However, the aftermath of the recent downpours has been devastating. Reports indicate that the stormy weather, especially lightning strikes, has claimed the lives of at least 16 people in various parts of the state.

In Madhepura, an entire village has been devastated, further illustrating the extreme weather conditions. Additionally, heavy rainfall in Nepal has caused rivers like the Kosi in Supaul and the Kamla in Madhubani to swell, resulting in flood-like situations. In Patna, the Ganga River is also overflowing, and several cities are experiencing waterlogging issues, further complicating the situation.

The Weather Forecast for Today

Looking at today’s forecast, the weather in Bihar is expected to show a slight improvement. The possibility of heavy rainfall is extremely low, with light to moderate rain expected across the eastern districts of the state. Thunderstorms with lightning may occur, leading to the Yellow Alert in areas like Kishanganj, Purnia, Bhagalpur, and Jamui. In the other districts, there is no immediate risk of significant rainfall, and no weather alerts have been issued.

Along with the reduction in rain, sunshine is expected to emerge as the day progresses, which could lead to a rise in temperatures. The overall forecast indicates that the worst of the rains are over for now, providing some relief to residents who have been battling persistent downpours.

What’s Changing in the Weather?

Bihar’s weather is set to gradually shift in the coming days. The current low-pressure system that had been affecting northern Bihar and its surrounding areas has weakened. While a cyclonic circulation still persists in northeastern Bihar and nearby regions, this system is not expected to cause any significant rainfall in the coming days.

Furthermore, a trough continues to extend across parts of northern Bihar, Jharkhand, and northern Odisha at around 1.5 km above sea level. This feature will maintain the chances of light showers for the next couple of days. However, once October 8 arrives, it is predicted that the rainfall activity will completely subside across Bihar. By this point, no more significant rainfall is anticipated, and the weather will turn predominantly dry across the state.

The Outlook for the Days Ahead

From October 8 onwards, the weather across Bihar will see a noticeable shift towards dry conditions. The gradual reduction in rain will culminate in completely dry weather by October 11, with no rain expected across the state. During this period, daytime temperatures are likely to increase by two to four degrees Celsius, with clear skies and abundant sunshine expected throughout.

The dry spell will bring an end to the heavy rainfall that has been persistent over the past several days, allowing the state to recover from the flood-like conditions. Although light rainfall may still be observed in some areas in the short term, the overall trend will be towards clearer skies and warmer temperatures.

Why is the Weather Changing?

The weather pattern change in Bihar can be attributed to the weakening of a low-pressure area over northern Bihar and nearby regions. Although the associated cyclonic circulation remains in place, its influence is now waning. This is expected to bring an end to the heavy rainfall that has plagued the state for several days.

Additionally, a trough at approximately 1.5 km above sea level extends across northern Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, keeping some mild rainfall possibilities in place. However, by October 8, all significant rainfall activity is expected to cease, with clear skies taking over. The prolonged dry period will lead to a noticeable rise in temperatures, signaling the end of the monsoon season for the year.

In conclusion, the weather in Bihar today is expected to be much calmer than in recent days. While some areas in the eastern part of the state might experience light to moderate rainfall, the overall chances of heavy rain are low. The state is recovering from the severe impacts of previous rainfall, including fatalities due to lightning strikes and flooding in certain districts.

As the weather pattern shifts, residents can expect a gradual reduction in rainfall, with the promise of clearer skies and warmer temperatures by mid-October. The low-pressure system that had caused the rains is weakening, and no significant weather events are anticipated in the coming days. This will provide much-needed relief to the people of Bihar, allowing them to recover from the recent weather disturbances.
