KKN Gurugram Desk | The state of Bihar is currently witnessing two starkly contrasting weather patterns. While North Bihar is bracing for rain and thunderstormsSouth Bihar continues to endure severe heatwave conditions. According to weather forecasts, these patterns are expected to persist over the next 48 hours, with some relief likely starting Saturday.

 Scorching Heatwave in Southern Bihar

On Wednesday, many parts of southern Bihar recorded extremely high temperatures, crossing the 40°C mark. Patna, the state capital, experienced intense heat throughout the day due to strong sunlight, leading to significant discomfort for residents. The maximum temperature in Patna rose by 0.3°C, while the minimum climbed by 0.4°C, indicating a rise in both daytime and nighttime heat levels.

Overall, the state’s average maximum temperature increased by 2.8°C, and minimum temperatures were up by 4°C. The highest temperature was recorded in Buxar at 42.8°C, while Banka remained the coolest at 26.1°C.

North Bihar Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds

In stark contrast, the northern regions of Bihar are under a thunderstorm alert, with expectations of rainfall and lightning at isolated places. Wind speeds may reach 40–50 km/h, particularly in areas closer to the Nepal border such as Champaran, Sitamarhi, and Madhubani.

This weather system is likely caused by localized atmospheric disturbances and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, setting off convective activities. As per meteorological predictions, the weather in Bihar is likely to change starting Saturday, bringing partial relief from the ongoing heatwave.

City-Wise Temperature Highlights in Bihar (June 11, 2025)

The following cities recorded temperatures above 40°C, indicating the widespread impact of the current heatwave:

  • Buxar – 42.8°C

  • Gopalganj – 41.7°C

  • Dehri-on-Sone – 41.5°C

  • Arrah (Ara) – 40.8°C

  • Patna – 40.7°C

  • Gaya – 40.6°C

  • Aurangabad – 40.6°C

  • Motihari – 40.5°C

  • Valmikinagar – 40.4°C

  • Chhapra – 40.4°C

  • Darbhanga – 40.4°C

  • Jiradei – 40.1°C

Note: These figures highlight the intensity of the heatwave, particularly in central and southern Bihar.

Patna Weather Today: Cloudy Skies Expected

On Thursday (June 12, 2025), Patna is expected to see partly cloudy skies, which may offer some temporary relief from direct sunlight. However, humidity levels will remain high, adding to the discomfort.

The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 40.5–41°C, while the minimum could stay near 31°C. Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak hours (12 PM to 4 PM) and stay hydrated.

 Heatwave Alert for Southern Bihar

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for southern Bihar districts such as:

  • Gaya

  • Aurangabad

  • Nawada

  • Jamui

  • Rohtas

  • Bhojpur

These regions will likely continue to see extreme temperatures, with real feel temperatures touching 44–45°C due to high humidity and dry winds.

Thunderstorm & Lightning Alert in North Bihar

Areas in North Bihar such as:

  • Sitamarhi

  • Madhubani

  • Champaran

  • Supaul

  • Kishanganj

may experience moderate rain, lightning strikes, and gusty winds over the next 24 hours. Local residents, especially farmers and outdoor workers, are advised to stay indoors during storms and avoid taking shelter under trees or metal structures during lightning activity.

 When Will the Weather Improve?

According to the latest forecast, a shift in weather patterns is expected from Saturday onwards (June 14, 2025). With a cyclonic circulation forming over eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar, the state might see increased rainfall activity, which could bring down the soaring temperatures across most districts.

This change is likely to provide partial relief from the heat, especially in central and southern Bihar. However, any significant monsoonal rainfall is still at least 7–10 days away, with the Southwest Monsoon’s full onset expected around late June.

Precautionary Measures for Residents

With the current weather extremes, both in terms of heat and storms, here are some safety guidelines for Bihar residents:

During Heatwave:

  • Avoid going outdoors between 12 PM and 4 PM.

  • Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeinated beverages.

  • Wear light, breathable cotton clothes.

  • Use umbrellas, caps, or scarves while stepping out.

During Thunderstorms:

  • Unplug electronic devices to avoid lightning damage.

  • Stay away from metal objects and avoid open fields.

  • Do not take shelter under isolated trees.

  • Avoid using mobile phones outdoors during lightning.
