Realme Extends Update Policy: Three Android Upgrades and Four Years of Security for P Series

Published on

Realme has announced a major change in its update policy for the P series smartphones. The company has extended software and security support, adding an extra year for eligible devices. This decision applies to the existing P3 series and will also cover upcoming P4 and P4 Pro models. Future P series devices will receive three Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates.

This change marks a significant improvement from the earlier policy, which offered only two Android OS updates and three years of security support. With this move, Realme aims to strengthen user trust and compete with brands like Samsung and OnePlus in the long-term update segment.

Realme P3 Series Gets Extended Update Support

Owners of the Realme P3 series can now enjoy longer device lifespans thanks to the updated policy. Instead of the previous two years of OS updates, P3 models will now get three years. Security patch support has also been extended from three years to four years.

This improvement ensures that P3 users will benefit from the latest Android features for a longer time. More importantly, the extended security support will keep devices safer against hacking attempts and cyber threats for an additional year.

P4 and P4 Pro Will Launch with the New Policy

Realme confirmed that its upcoming P4 and P4 Pro smartphones will follow the same three-plus-four update structure. Just like the company’s Number Series devices, the P series will now offer extended OS and security coverage as standard.

The announcement comes ahead of the P4 series launch, indicating Realme’s commitment to delivering better long-term value. For buyers considering these devices, the updated policy makes them more attractive in a highly competitive market.

List of Realme Phones Eligible for Three OS and Four Years Security Updates

The new update policy is not limited to the P series. Several models in the Number Series are also eligible.

Realme Number Series:

  • Realme 14T

  • Realme 14 Pro

  • Realme 14 Pro+

  • Realme 15

  • Realme 15 Pro

Realme P Series:

  • Realme P3

  • Realme P3 Pro

  • Realme P3 Ultra

  • Realme P4 Series (including P4 and P4 Pro)

These models will all enjoy the benefits of longer support, giving users extended device performance, features, and security.

Why the Update Policy Matters for Users

Extending update timelines has become an important trend in the smartphone industry. Longer OS and security support has several benefits for customers:

Better Device Security – Four years of security patches help protect devices from malware, data breaches, and evolving cyber threats. Even older models will remain resistant to the latest vulnerabilities.

Access to Latest Features – Three Android OS upgrades ensure users can experience the newest interface designs, app compatibility, and AI-based enhancements without buying a new device.

Improved Resale Value – Devices with longer update support maintain higher resale value. Buyers are more likely to purchase a second-hand phone that still has software and security updates left.

Stronger Brand Trust – Users are more loyal to brands that continue to support their devices over time. The new policy aligns Realme with top-tier competitors in this regard.

Realme’s Move Brings Mid-Range Phones Closer to Flagship Standards

Previously, mid-range phones typically offered only two Android OS updates and three years of security patches. This limitation made them fall behind premium flagships, which often received longer support.

By offering three OS updates and four years of security coverage, Realme has elevated its mid-range devices to flagship-like support levels. This strategic decision could attract buyers who want long-lasting smartphones without paying flagship prices.

Industry experts note that this step brings Realme in line with update policies from Samsung’s Galaxy A series and OnePlus Nord models, which have already adopted longer update commitments.

User Benefits in the Long Run

The new update cycle means that a device launched in 2025 can remain up-to-date until at least 2029. For example, a Realme P4 purchased at launch will receive three major Android version upgrades, keeping it relevant for years.

Security patches will continue for four years, meaning that even in its final year of support, the device will still get important protection updates. This extended coverage reduces the urgency for users to upgrade frequently, making ownership more cost-effective.

Realme P3 Ultra and Other Models Included

The Realme P3 Ultra, a higher-end variant in the P3 series, also benefits from the policy change. With 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and a 6.83-inch display, it combines strong hardware with extended software support.

Similarly, models like the P3 Pro and standard P3 now stand out more in the market. Buyers of these devices will no longer feel disadvantaged compared to those choosing newer models, since update timelines are now aligned.

Competitive Advantage in the Budget and Mid-Range Market

In the budget and mid-range price segments, customers often prioritize value for money. Longer updates mean more time before a phone becomes outdated. This can influence purchase decisions, especially for tech-savvy buyers who are aware of the importance of software longevity.

Realme’s move will likely put pressure on other brands in the same price segment to match or improve their update commitments. The change could shift market preferences towards brands offering better after-sales support.

Realme Aligns Strategy with Global Standards

Globally, the push for longer smartphone support has been growing due to environmental and consumer demand reasons. Extending software updates reduces e-waste by encouraging users to keep devices longer.

Realme’s adoption of a 3+4 policy for more models shows the brand’s alignment with these global trends. By offering flagship-level update support in mid-range phones, the company improves both its competitive position and its image as a user-friendly brand.

Realme’s decision to extend its update policy for the P3 series, P4 series, and several Number Series devices is a major win for consumers. The move addresses concerns about device longevity, security, and value for money.

With three years of Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates, users can expect their phones to stay secure, functional, and feature-rich for much longer. This step not only enhances Realme’s market appeal but also sets a higher standard for update policies in the mid-range smartphone category.

In an industry where many users upgrade devices every two years, Realme’s new approach could encourage longer ownership cycles. If the company maintains this commitment across future releases, it could build a loyal base of users who trust the brand to deliver lasting value.
