Delhi Weather News : Severe Cold Wave Tightens Grip on the Capital

Published on

Delhi continues to face intense winter conditions as severe cold grips the city. Dense fog during mornings and icy winds throughout the day are troubling residents. The cold wave has pushed temperatures to season’s lowest levels. Many areas reported minimum temperatures below 4.1 degrees Celsius.

Sunday recorded one of the coldest mornings this winter. The persistent chill has reduced outdoor activity across the capital. People are staying indoors to escape the biting cold. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions.

Relief from the cold does not appear imminent. Weather officials expect similar conditions to continue for another day. Residents should prepare for continued discomfort.

Lowest Temperatures Recorded Across Key Areas

Several parts of Delhi witnessed extremely low minimum temperatures. Palam, Ridge, and Ayanagar recorded temperatures below 4.1 degrees Celsius. Ayanagar remained the coldest location in the city.

The minimum temperature in Ayanagar dropped to 2.9 degrees Celsius. Palam recorded a minimum temperature close to 3.0 degrees Celsius. Ridge also remained significantly colder than average.

These readings indicate a strong cold wave influence. The cold has affected both residential and commercial areas. Early morning routines have become difficult for many residents.

Dense Fog Reduces Visibility in Morning Hours

Dense fog covered large parts of Delhi during early hours. Visibility levels dropped sharply at major locations. Palam Airport reported visibility of only 450 meters.

Safdarjung recorded visibility near 600 meters. The fog impacted road traffic in several areas. Slow-moving vehicles were seen across major roads.

Rail and flight operations faced minor disruptions due to low visibility. Drivers were advised to exercise caution. Fog conditions added to the already harsh winter experience.

Cold Wave Conditions Likely to Continue

Weather experts have warned that the cold wave may persist into Monday. Similar temperature patterns are expected across the city. The yellow alert for cold wave remains in place.

On Monday, minimum temperatures may range between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures may stay between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius. Morning hours may again witness moderate fog.

Cold winds are expected to continue throughout the day. These winds prevent daytime temperatures from rising significantly. Residents should brace for another cold morning.

Recent Weather Trends and Snowfall Impact

Saturday also recorded low temperatures across Delhi. The minimum temperature fell to 5.4 degrees Celsius that day. Light rainfall was reported in some parts of the city.

Weather experts attribute the cold to snowfall in northern hill regions. Snowfall has intensified cold winds reaching the plains. These winds have kept temperatures unusually low.

The combined effect of fog and cold winds has worsened conditions. Limited sunshine has further reduced daytime warmth. As a result, Delhi remains under strong winter influence.

Temperature Readings Across Weather Stations

Different weather stations reported varying temperature levels. Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 20.2 degrees Celsius. Its minimum temperature stood at 4.8 degrees Celsius.

Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 16.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature there dropped to 3.0 degrees Celsius. Lodhi Road reported a minimum temperature of 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Ridge recorded a minimum temperature of 3.7 degrees Celsius. Ayanagar reported a maximum of 19.0 degrees Celsius. No rainfall was recorded at these stations.

What to Expect in the Coming Days

The yellow alert will remain active on January 12. Cold wave conditions may slowly weaken after that. Weather officials expect gradual improvement from January 13.

From January 13 to January 16, minimum temperatures may rise to around 8 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures could hover near 20 degrees Celsius. This change may bring some relief.

However, light to moderate fog may still occur. Morning visibility could remain low in some areas. No rainfall alert has been issued for this period.

Pollution Levels Show Slight Improvement

Delhi’s air quality has shown marginal improvement. The air quality index has moved from very poor to poor category. According to official data, the average AQI stood at 298.

Despite improvement, pollution levels remain a concern. Several areas still recorded AQI levels above 300. Poor air quality continues to affect sensitive groups.

Cold weather and low wind speeds trap pollutants near the surface. Foggy conditions further worsen air quality. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure.

Health Advisory for Residents

Doctors advise caution during extreme cold conditions. Elderly people and children are especially vulnerable. Warm clothing is essential during early mornings and nights.

People with respiratory issues should remain indoors. Exposure to cold air may trigger health problems. Maintaining proper hydration is also recommended.

Using masks may help reduce pollution impact. Avoiding outdoor exercise during peak cold hours is advised. Staying informed about weather updates remains important.

Travel Advisory Amid Cold and Fog

Motorists are advised to drive carefully during foggy mornings. Reduced visibility increases accident risks. Using fog lights and maintaining low speed is essential.

Public transport users may face slight delays. Flight and train schedules should be checked before travel. Weather conditions may change rapidly.

Authorities continue to monitor weather developments. Regular advisories are being issued for public safety. Residents should follow official guidance closely.

Cold Continues to Dominate Delhi’s Weather

Delhi remains firmly under winter’s grip. Cold wave conditions have made daily life challenging. Dense fog and low temperatures continue to dominate the city.

While slight relief is expected later this week, caution remains necessary. The next few days will test residents’ endurance. Staying prepared is the best response to the ongoing cold spell.
