KKN Gurugram Desk | Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) should brace themselves for a week of intense weather changes, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for multiple days, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

According to the latest Delhi weather update, significant precipitation is expected across the region from June 23 to June 29, with fluctuating temperatures and frequent cloud cover. The weather forecast has major implications for commuters, officegoers, and residents in low-lying areas.

Heavy Rain Predicted in Delhi and NCR Cities

The Delhi weather forecast for the week suggests widespread showers and storm activity, especially on June 23, 24, and 25, when IMD has confirmed that cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall, and thunderstorm activity will dominate the region. A Yellow Alert has been declared for these dates, signaling potential disruptions due to adverse weather.

Cities such as Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad are also expected to witness similar weather conditions, making this a region-wide impact.

 Yellow Alert Issued by IMD

The India Meteorological Department issues Yellow Alerts to caution the public about potential weather hazards that are not yet extreme but may still cause inconvenience or minor damage. For Delhi-NCR, the three-day Yellow Alert suggests the possibility of:

  • Thunderstorms with lightning

  • Rainfall ranging from 15 to 64.5 mm

  • Winds gusting up to 40-50 km/h

  • Minor urban flooding in low-lying areas

With schools and offices in full session, these conditions are expected to affect traffic movement, flight operations, and public transportation, especially during peak hours.

Full Week Weather Breakdown (June 23 – June 29)

Here’s a day-wise weather analysis of what Delhiites can expect this week:

 June 23–25 (Monday to Wednesday):

  • Weather: Cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall, possible lightning

  • Temperature: Highs around 34°C, lows near 26°C

  • Alert: Yellow Alert for all three days

  • Impact: Slight drop in humidity, traffic delays, slippery roads

 June 26–29 (Thursday to Sunday):

  • IMD has extended the Yellow Alert into the weekend as well, forecasting continued rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderclaps.

  • Temperature range: 33°C to 35°C (day), 25°C to 27°C (night)

  • Expected Conditions:

    • Intermittent rainfall

    • Lightning strikes in some areas

    • Cooler overall climate

  • Safety Tip: Residents should avoid standing under trees, unplug electrical devices during storms, and avoid waterlogged roads.

Drop in Temperature Brings Relief from Humidity

The intense rainfall this week is likely to cool down the capital, offering much-needed respite from the recent heat and humidity. After weeks of above-average temperatures and dry spells, Delhi-NCR is expected to see:

  • Daytime temperatures dropping to 32–35°C

  • Comfortable evenings and mornings

  • Improved air quality due to rain-cleansing effect

While the rain will bring relief, it may also trigger power outages, traffic jams, and waterlogging in older parts of the city. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and check weather updates regularly.

 Lightning and Safety Warnings Issued

The IMD has specifically warned of lightning strikes in parts of Delhi and NCR, especially during late afternoons and evenings. Lightning during monsoon activity is a common yet dangerous phenomenon.

Safety Guidelines for Citizens:

  • Avoid open fields and metal objects during thunderstorms

  • Stay away from electrical appliances when indoors

  • Refrain from driving in waterlogged areas

  • Schools and parents should brief children on monsoon safety

 Regional Impact Across NCR

Gurugram Weather Forecast:

  • Heavy showers likely during afternoon hours

  • Waterlogging possible near major intersections

  • Traffic expected to slow down on NH-48

Noida and Greater Noida:

  • Light morning rain followed by intense spells in the evening

  • Risk of power cuts in residential areas

  • Commuters advised to avoid underpasses during heavy rain

Faridabad and Ghaziabad:

  • Thunderstorms with wind gusts expected between 4–6 PM

  • Flash alerts may be issued in case of extreme lightning

  • Market areas may experience decreased footfall

Delhi Weather Forecast Trending Online

The Delhi rain alert has quickly become a trending topic on social media, as netizens share videos of sudden downpours, blocked drains, and stormy clouds. The #DelhiRains hashtag is gaining momentum as citizens prepare for a wet and stormy week ahead.

Why Is It Raining So Heavily in Delhi?

According to the India Meteorological Department, this weather pattern is due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is moving towards Northwest India. As it interacts with the monsoon trough and western disturbances, the combination is resulting in:

  • Intensified rainfall over Delhi NCR

  • Prolonged monsoon onset

  • High moisture content in the atmosphere

This system is expected to remain active for at least 6–7 days, resulting in above-normal rainfall this week.

If you are in Delhi or any city in the NCR, keep your umbrellas and raincoats ready. With continuous rainfall forecasted and a Yellow Alert in effect until June 29, the week ahead will be wet, windy, and unpredictable.
