Delhi-NCR witnessed a refreshing weather change early this morning as heavy showers lashed multiple areas. Dense clouds covered the sky, creating an almost night-like atmosphere even after sunrise. From RK Puram in Delhi to Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, residents experienced continuous downpours. The showers brought relief from humidity, lowered temperatures, and transformed the overall mood across the region.

Morning Showers Set the Tone for the Day

Rain began as early as 5 AM in several parts of Delhi-NCR. The rainfall varied from light to moderate intensity, with certain pockets experiencing heavy bursts. In Noida, temperatures dropped to around 26°C, making the morning pleasantly cool. RK Puram in Delhi also recorded moderate rainfall that continued for several hours. According to meteorological reports, the minimum temperature today is expected to range between 24°C and 26°C, while the maximum may touch 30°C to 34°C. Wind speeds are predicted to stay between 5 kmph and 13 kmph, enhancing the likelihood of thunder and lightning along with rain.

IMD’s Rainfall Forecast for Delhi-NCR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting light to moderate rainfall across most parts of Delhi-NCR today. The morning and afternoon hours may see intermittent showers accompanied by thunder. By evening, the intensity of the rain could increase in certain localities. The latest updates from IMD indicate that humidity levels will remain high, between 68% and 85%, contributing to a moist and breezy atmosphere.

Monsoon’s Strong Hold over the Region

The 2025 monsoon season continues to maintain a strong presence in Delhi-NCR. The monsoon trough remains positioned close to the capital, fueling regular rainfall activity. Between August 13 and August 16, the IMD expects consistent light to moderate showers. The probability of heavy rain is particularly high on August 14 and 15, when moist air from the Bay of Bengal is expected to interact with the prevailing monsoon system.

Low Pressure from Bay of Bengal Boosting Rainfall

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is significantly influencing the current weather pattern. This system is pushing moist air masses towards northern India, including Delhi-NCR. As a result, rainfall activity is expected to remain steady over the next few days. While August 17 may see a gradual decline in rainfall intensity, there is currently no indication of a complete monsoon break.

Relief from Heat and Humidity

Residents across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad reported significant relief from the oppressive humidity experienced over the past week. The fresh spell of rain not only lowered day temperatures but also cleaned the air, improving visibility. Morning joggers and early commuters welcomed the cool breeze and damp roads, a rare comfort in August’s peak humidity season.

Traffic and Commuting Conditions

While the rain brought joy to many, it also caused traffic slowdowns in several areas. Waterlogging was reported in low-lying parts of Delhi, including Moti Bagh and Lajpat Nagar. Commuters traveling between Noida and Delhi via the DND Flyway experienced minor delays due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. Authorities have advised drivers to exercise caution, maintain safe speeds, and avoid flooded routes whenever possible.

Farmers Benefit from Timely Rain

The showers have been beneficial for farmers in the NCR’s peripheral agricultural belts. Crops such as paddy, maize, and vegetables stand to gain from the timely moisture. Agricultural experts say this spell will reduce the need for irrigation in the short term, potentially lowering farming costs for local cultivators.

Outlook for the Coming Days

The weather outlook suggests that residents should prepare for more wet days until at least August 16. Intermittent showers are likely during both daytime and nighttime hours. On August 14 and 15, rainfall may intensify, accompanied by gusty winds in certain regions. While temperatures will remain cooler than average, high humidity will persist due to consistent moisture in the air.

Delhi-NCR’s current spell of rain marks one of the most pleasant phases of this monsoon season. With cooler temperatures, cleaner air, and the soothing sound of rainfall, residents are enjoying a welcome break from the summer heat and sticky humidity. However, with heavy rain still in the forecast, the public is advised to remain cautious on the roads and stay updated with IMD’s advisories for the latest weather developments.
