PM Modi to Inaugurate 103 Redeveloped Amrit Bharat Railway Stations Across 18 States

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | India is set to witness a historic leap in railway infrastructure modernization today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates 103 redeveloped railway stations across 18 Indian states and Union Territories under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The event, conducted virtually, will mark a transformative step toward passenger-centric, inclusive, and culturally enriched transport infrastructure.

The redevelopment of these stations, costing approximately ₹1,100 crore, aims to improve passenger convenience, provide universal accessibility, and promote a locally inspired architectural identity that aligns with India’s regional heritage.

What is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

Launched as a flagship initiative of the Indian Railways, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) targets the redevelopment of over 1,300 railway stations nationwide. These modernized hubs are designed to:

  • Provide world-class passenger amenities

  • Ensure accessible infrastructure for Divyangjan (differently-abled individuals)

  • Reflect regional culture and heritage through architectural themes

  • Enable multi-modal connectivity and ease of commute

  • Promote green and sustainable design elements

The ABSS is not just about cosmetic changes. It signifies a holistic transformation of Indian Railways’ identity, both functionally and aesthetically.

States and UTs Covered Under Today’s Inauguration

The 103 Amrit Bharat Stations being inaugurated today span 86 districts in the following 18 states and UTs:

  • Andhra Pradesh

  • Assam

  • Bihar

  • Chhattisgarh

  • Gujarat

  • Haryana

  • Himachal Pradesh

  • Jharkhand

  • Karnataka

  • Kerala

  • Madhya Pradesh

  • Maharashtra

  • Puducherry

  • Rajasthan

  • Tamil Nadu

  • Telangana

  • Uttar Pradesh

  • West Bengal

Each redeveloped station has been selected based on strategic importance, footfall, and regional economic activity.

 Key Redeveloped Stations by State

?? Maharashtra (15 Stations)

Prime Minister Modi’s Visit to Rajasthan: A Key Highlight

PM Modi will be physically present in Bikaner, Rajasthan, today. His itinerary includes:

  • Worship at the Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok

  • Inauguration of the redeveloped Deshnok Railway Station

  • Flag-off of the new Bikaner-Mumbai Express Train

  • Foundation stone laying for projects worth over ₹26,000 crore

Accompanied by Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, this visit underscores the BJP’s development narrative ahead of the next electoral cycle in the state.

Special Features of the Amrit Bharat Stations

Each station under ABSS includes upgrades such as:

  • Modern station buildings with wider concourses

  • Dedicated access ramps and lifts for Divyangjan

  • Solar-powered lighting and rainwater harvesting

  • Clean and tech-enabled restrooms

  • Digital information displays and CCTV surveillance

  • Food courts, waiting lounges, and green areas

  • Artwork representing regional culture and traditions

These upgrades are being carried out under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, wherever feasible.

Why the Amrit Bharat Scheme Matters

 Improves Passenger Experience

From hygiene to accessibility, the scheme focuses on the everyday commuter, ensuring safer and more comfortable travel.

 Boosts Local Economies

Stations in semi-urban and rural districts will become growth hubs, encouraging trade and tourism.

 Preserves Cultural Identity

Unlike generic architecture, each station reflects local flavor — be it through murals, motifs, or material.

 Strengthens Multi-Modal Integration

Integration with metro, bus, and highway networks is a core aspect, aimed at seamless end-to-end travel.

 Investment and Timeline

  • Total estimated cost for today’s 103 stations: ₹1,100 crore

  • Overall ABSS investment: Expected to exceed ₹25,000 crore

  • Implementation timeline: Phase-wise completion by 2026

Railway Ministry sources indicate that another 200 stations are in advanced design stages and will be taken up later this year.

With the inauguration of 103 Amrit Bharat Stations, India is not just upgrading railway buildings — it’s redefining how stations serve as civic, cultural, and economic gateways. These modernized hubs will offer enhanced passenger experiences while celebrating India’s diversity and progress.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) finds visible expression in these station transformations, setting the stage for sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready transport infrastructure.
