The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a special module on Operation Sindoor. This module will now be taught from Class 3 to Class 12 as part of school textbooks.

According to NCERT, Operation Sindoor was not only a military action but also a step towards peace and restoring dignity to those who lost their lives. The module emphasizes that the operation went beyond combat and symbolized India’s commitment to justice and security.

It has been included in the curriculum as supplementary material just three months after the operation, ensuring that students learn about this significant chapter of India’s military history.

Details of the military action

The module explains in detail the context of the operation. It notes that Pakistan denied direct involvement in the Pahalgam attack, but the assault was executed under the orders of Pakistani military and political leadership.

As per the module, India targeted nine terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian Armed Forces launched missiles and conducted airstrikes to dismantle these camps. The operation reflected India’s firm resolve to respond decisively to cross-border terrorism.

Destruction of terror camps

The module highlights that out of the nine targeted locations, seven were completely destroyed. The Indian Air Force struck terrorist hubs in Muridke and Bahawalpur, which were linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The NCERT syllabus underlines the government’s stance that no civilians were harmed during the operation. Every target was verified multiple times to ensure that only terrorist bases were hit.

The lesson conveys that India’s approach was precise, strategic, and uncompromising against terrorism. It demonstrates the message that the masterminds of terror will not be spared under any circumstances.

Modules for different classes

The NCERT syllabus now includes two separate modules. For Classes 3 to 8, the module is titled “Operation Sindoor – A Saga of Valor.” For Classes 9 to 12, the advanced module is titled “Operation Sindoor – A Mission of Honor and Bravery.”

These modules aim to familiarize students with the strength and discipline of the Indian Armed Forces. By introducing this content at school level, NCERT seeks to build awareness of national security and instill respect for the sacrifices made by soldiers.

Mention of advanced defense systems

The Operation Sindoor module also discusses India’s modern defense capabilities. It describes the success of the S-400 air defense system, which intercepted enemy aircraft at long range and destroyed hostile drones during the operation.

By highlighting these systems, the syllabus emphasizes the role of technology, strategy, and innovation in India’s military achievements.

The module also records civilian responses to the attack and the subsequent military action. Communities in Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal condemned the attack by wearing black armbands. In Kashmir, shopkeepers shut down markets in protest against the violence. Villages near the border demanded strong action and extended full support to the armed forces.

Lessons from past wars

The module connects Operation Sindoor with India’s history of resilience. It recalls India’s firm responses in the wars of 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999. In each case, India stood resolutely for its people and sovereignty.

It explains that Operation Sindoor was a continuation of this legacy, a direct attempt to counter terrorism led by Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hizbul Mujahideen, and Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.

The narrative frames the operation not only as a military campaign but also as a mission to safeguard peace and honor the memory of victims of terrorism.

A balanced portrayal for students

The inclusion of Operation Sindoor in school textbooks ensures that young learners understand both the military and humanitarian dimensions of the action.

Students are taught that while the operation showcased India’s military strength, it also represented the country’s responsibility to protect civilians and maintain peace. The module stresses that every strike was carefully planned to avoid civilian casualties, reflecting India’s ethical approach to warfare.

Building respect for the armed forces

One of the key objectives of introducing these modules is to instill respect for the Indian Armed Forces among students. By learning about real military operations, children will develop a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and bravery of soldiers.

The stories of precision strikes, defense systems, and national unity during crisis moments are designed to inspire patriotism and responsibility among the youth.

Academic and national significance

NCERT’s decision reflects a broader effort to connect education with national events. By including Operation Sindoor, NCERT aims to integrate lessons of courage, resilience, and peace-building into mainstream education.

The academic significance lies in creating awareness of contemporary history, while the national significance is about honoring the armed forces and educating students about terrorism and its consequences.

The addition of Operation Sindoor to the NCERT curriculum marks an important step in shaping the next generation’s understanding of national security.

Through detailed modules, students will learn about the strategic, moral, and humanitarian aspects of military operations. They will also understand the importance of innovation in defense, as demonstrated by systems like the S-400.

By linking Operation Sindoor with past wars, the syllabus creates continuity in India’s history of standing firm against aggression. It ensures that students not only remember the valor of soldiers but also recognize the operation as a step toward peace and dignity.
