India-Pakistan Border Tensions Escalate: Heavy Firing at LoC, Punjab on High Alert After Operation Sindoor

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | Following India’s precision military campaign, Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine major terrorist bases inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), tensions have reached a boiling point along the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistan has responded with indiscriminate shelling on civilian areas in Jammu & Kashmir. Meanwhile, border regions of Punjab including Pathankot, Ferozepur, and Fazilka have been placed under high alert as Indian forces brace for further escalation.

After Operation Sindoor: Pakistan’s Aggressive Retaliation at LoC

Pakistan, rattled by the Indian Air Force’s strikes on terrorist infrastructure, has resorted to violating the ceasefire along multiple sections of the LoC. The Uri sector, in particular, has witnessed intense shelling over the past 48 hours, raising serious concerns over civilian safety.

Pakistan Targets Civilians, Breaks Ceasefire

Reports from Uri indicate that residential homes have been damaged, with mortar shells destroying even concrete walls. A recovered shell casing bore markings linking it directly to Pakistan’s military. The attack is seen as a desperate and disproportionate response to India’s surgical precision in Operation Sindoor.

What’s Happening Along the Line of Control (LoC)?

  • Frequent ceasefire violations have been reported from Kupwara, Rajouri, and Poonch districts.

  • Several villagers have been injured due to random shelling.

  • The Indian Army has been responding forcefully, using advanced weapons systems including cruise missiles and precision-guided bombs to neutralize Pakistani firing positions.

India’s Tactical Response: Advanced Missiles in Action

Indian forces have, for the first time in recent years, deployed next-generation missile systems along the border. According to defence officials:

  • Hammer bombscruise missiles, and laser-guided artillery have been used to silence enemy posts.

  • The response is calculated, avoiding civilian areas, and focused solely on enemy bunkers and launch sites.

High Alert in Punjab: Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka on Standby

In Punjab, border districts have been placed on high alert following increased intelligence about potential retaliatory actions from across the border.

Preventive Measures and Civil Readiness

  • All schools near the border have been closed to protect children.

  • Local administrations in Pathankot, Fazilka, and Ferozepur are coordinating with military and emergency services.

  • Emergency protocols have been activated in anticipation of any cross-border infiltration or missile threats.

Amritsar Blackout Drill: Simulating Emergency Response

A full-scale mock drill was conducted in Amritsar on Wednesday night to prepare civilians for potential emergencies.

Key Highlights of the Drill:

  • Blackout initiated from 9:00 PM to 9:30 PM across several sectors of Amritsar to simulate wartime response.

  • Emergency sirens were tested, teaching residents how to respond to different types of alerts.

  • Local police and civil defence teams monitored community response and preparedness.

Officials reported positive citizen cooperation during the drills and stated that similar simulations would be conducted in other sensitive districts in the coming days.

Public Sentiment: Fear and Determination Along the Border

Residents of border villages in Uri and Punjab remain fearful, but many express support for India’s bold action against terrorism. One villager from Uri, whose house was damaged by mortar fire, said:

“India targeted only terrorist camps, but Pakistan is attacking innocent people. We are not afraid. We trust our army.”

The sentiment is echoed across various border districts, where civilian resilience is evident despite rising tensions.

Strategic View: Why Is Pakistan Provoking Now?

Experts suggest that Pakistan’s economic collapse, dwindling foreign reserves, and internal political instability have led its military to divert public attention through cross-border aggression.

Mortar Attacks Despite Economic Woes

There’s widespread speculation about how Pakistan can afford consistent use of expensive military hardware like mortars and rockets amid a crippling financial crisis. Defense analysts suggest covert foreign funding or diversion of humanitarian aid may be fueling its military expenditure.

India’s Military and Diplomatic Stand

India has maintained that its operations are defensive, precise, and focused on eliminating terrorist infrastructure. The government has stated:

  • India will not escalate unprovoked, but will respond strongly to any attacks on civilians or military posts.

  • The use of targeted military technology marks a shift from passive defense to proactive deterrence.

Statements from Indian Leadership

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the army’s conduct during Operation Sindoor, stating:

“Our forces have shown courage, control, and commitment to humanity.”

  • Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Operation Sindoor was backed by credible intelligence, warning of potential large-scale terror attacks planned from across the border.

What Lies Ahead: Possibility of Escalation or Dialogue?

With both nations on alert, the situation remains tense. While Pakistan continues to violate ceasefire norms, international observers and UN representatives are urging both sides to exercise restraint.

The Diplomatic Path Forward

  • India has reached out to key global allies to share evidence of Pakistan’s attacks on civilians.

  • Multiple countries, including the United States, France, and Japan, have acknowledged India’s right to self-defense while encouraging peace.

India’s firm response through Operation Sindoor and its controlled retaliation to Pakistan’s shelling mark a strategic shift in South Asia’s conflict landscape. As tension mounts at the LoC and Punjab border, the Indian military’s preparedness and public readiness are evident.

Despite Pakistan’s provocations, India has demonstrated maturity, strength, and the will to protect its people without descending into unprovoked aggression.
