With over a billion Aadhaar cardholders across the country, this app promises to transform how individuals access and use their Aadhaar details in daily life. Whether it’s for opening a bank account, getting a new SIM card, or verifying identity for any official purpose, Aadhaar cardholders will no longer need to physically carry their Aadhaar cards.

The new app will replace the existing mAadhaar app and is expected to address several concerns regarding data privacy and security. The app will also introduce new features that will make it easier and safer for users to share and verify their identity details digitally. In this article, we will explore the key features of the upcoming Aadhaar app, its benefits, and how it will affect users’ data security.

Government’s Announcement of the New Aadhaar App

On April 10, 2025, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, and Information Technology, unveiled the new Aadhaar app. According to the minister, the app will play a pivotal role in securing the personal data of Aadhaar cardholders while making it easier for users to access their identity details digitally. This app is designed to ensure that Aadhaar details remain safe and private while offering new methods for verification without needing physical documentation.

As of now, the app is in beta testing and has been made available to select users for trial purposes. After successful testing, the app will be officially launched for the general public. Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a detailed video about the app’s features on his YouTube channel, which has given users a sneak peek into the app’s functionality. Let’s dive into the key features of this much-anticipated app.

Key Features of the New Aadhaar App
The new Aadhaar app offers several groundbreaking features aimed at enhancing user experience and security. Below are the five most important features that will be available in the app:

1. QR Code Verification for Seamless Authentication

One of the standout features of the new Aadhaar app is QR code verification. With this feature, Aadhaar cardholders will no longer need to manually input their Aadhaar number for verification. Instead, users can simply scan a QR code to authenticate their identity. This method will ensure that their personal data remains secure while reducing the risk of identity theft and fraud. As the QR code will encode the necessary details, users’ Aadhaar numbers and sensitive information will not be exposed during the verification process. This will ensure enhanced privacy for cardholders.

2. Enhanced Data Privacy Features

The new app places a strong emphasis on data privacy. Cardholders’ sensitive information, such as mobile numbers, addresses, and other personal details, will be masked within the app. This means that while the app will still allow for identity verification, the actual data will be concealed to prevent unauthorized access.
