KKN Gurugram Desk | In a shocking turn of events, a woman from Chennai has been arrested for sending false bomb threats across 12 states, including the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The police traced her down after a series of bomb hoaxes that left security agencies, police forces, and the public in a state of anxiety. This troubling series of events highlights how personal revenge and technological prowess can lead to widespread disruption and panic.

Background of the False Bomb Threats

The woman, identified as Rene Josilda, a robotics engineer by profession, used to work in a major multinational company in Chennai. She is now facing charges for sending multiple bomb threats via email over the course of a few months. Her actions included threats directed at multiple locations, including airports, government buildings, and educational institutions. The police’s investigation revealed that she was responsible for sending bomb hoaxes to various states, creating panic and leading to large-scale evacuations, disruption of public services, and deployment of security forces.

The Motivation Behind the Threats

Rene’s motivation for these bomb threats stems from a personal vendetta. She had developed an unrequited love for her colleague, Divij Prabhakar, who had shown no romantic interest in her. However, things took a bitter turn when, in February 2025, Divij married another woman. The rejection left Rene devastated and filled with a desire for revenge. Using her technical knowledge and expertise, Rene decided to take matters into her own hands by sending threatening emails using various fake identities.

She created multiple virtual email IDs and utilized the dark web to cover her tracks and avoid detection. Despite her advanced technological know-how, the police managed to track her down, and after an in-depth investigation, she was arrested in Chennai.

The False Threats and the Air India Incident

In the course of her vengeful actions, Rene sent a particularly alarming email after an Air India aircraft had crashed. After the crash incident, which caused chaos and panic at the B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad, Rene sent an email claiming responsibility for the incident. The email read: “Now you will understand the power. Just like the email I sent yesterday, today an Air India plane has been crashed. We know that you might have ignored it as a false threat, but our pilots will show you what we are capable of.”

Her false claims caused even more concern, as the public began to question whether there was any truth behind the threats. The police, however, dismissed the threats as hoaxes but were nonetheless forced to increase their vigilance, knowing that such threats could be a precursor to something more sinister.

Rene’s Actions Across Multiple States

Between May and June 2025, Rene sent numerous bomb threats across 12 states: Delhi, Punjab, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana. These threats targeted various high-profile locations, including educational institutions, government offices, and major public areas.

As the number of threats increased, security forces were put on high alert in multiple cities. Authorities conducted extensive checks and took precautionary measures, even though it was later determined that these were all false alarms. Despite no real bombs being discovered, the hoaxes created considerable distress and tied up valuable law enforcement resources.

The Technological Prowess and How She Avoided Detection

Rene’s background as a robotics engineer played a crucial role in her ability to send these threats without getting caught initially. She skillfully used the dark web to create virtual identities, making it difficult for authorities to trace the source of the emails. By using encrypted channels, she believed she could evade detection and continue her campaign of revenge without facing consequences.

However, her technical skills were not enough to keep her hidden from law enforcement for long. The police, after tracking her emails and monitoring suspicious activity, were able to pinpoint her location and apprehend her in Chennai.

Public Panic and Security Measures

The bomb threats sent by Rene created panic and confusion, especially in the cities that were directly targeted. In places like Ahmedabad, where the Narendra Modi Stadium was one of the primary locations mentioned in the threats, security forces had to quickly mobilize to assess the situation. People were evacuated, and public places were temporarily closed to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

While no bombs were found, the fear that gripped the public was real. The government and law enforcement agencies had to dedicate significant resources to investigating these threats, which could have been used elsewhere to address actual security concerns. The psychological impact of these threats on the public was profound, as it raised questions about the ease with which false information can spread and cause widespread panic.

The Consequences and Legal Ramifications

Rene Josilda now faces severe legal consequences for her actions. False bomb threats are not only a criminal offense but also a severe disruption to public life. The police have confirmed that Rene’s actions led to significant use of law enforcement resources, unnecessary evacuations, and emotional distress for thousands of people. Her claims of having caused the Air India crash, though unfounded, were particularly alarming and led to significant media attention.

Under Indian law, sending false bomb threats is a serious offense, and those found guilty can face extensive jail sentences, along with substantial fines. Rene’s actions also had a broader impact on national security, as they highlighted how easily the public and authorities can be manipulated using technology.

The Larger Implications: The Role of Technology in Crime

Rene’s case underscores the growing concern over the use of technology in committing crimes. With the rise of the dark web, encryption tools, and virtual identities, it has become increasingly difficult for authorities to track down individuals who commit cybercrimes. This case demonstrates the need for enhanced cyber security measures and increased public awareness of the potential dangers posed by the misuse of technology.

While Rene’s actions were driven by personal revenge, they raised important questions about the responsibilities of tech professionals and the ethical implications of their knowledge. It is essential for individuals with technical expertise to use their skills for positive purposes, rather than causing harm and disruption.

The arrest of Rene Josilda serves as a wake-up call for law enforcement agencies to strengthen their cyber security capabilities. It also highlights the importance of monitoring digital platforms and identifying potential threats before they can escalate. The public’s trust in the safety of their communities depends on the effective and timely response of authorities to both real and perceived threats.

As the investigation into Rene’s actions continues, authorities will likely focus on how to prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring that technology is used for good rather than as a tool for causing panic and chaos. This case also reinforces the need for stricter laws and regulations surrounding cybercrimes and the misuse of digital tools to carry out harmful activities.
