CUET UG 2025: NTA Releases Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme, Important Details Inside

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | With just a few weeks left for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2025, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the exam pattern and marking scheme. Students appearing for the entrance test should be well-versed with the changes, especially those who’ve just completed their board examinations and are now gearing up for CUET.

The CUET UG 2025 examination is expected to begin in May. Ahead of this, the NTA will soon release the admit cards and city intimation slips on its official website: cuet.nta.nic.in.

 CUET UG 2025: Key Highlights

  • Exam Mode: Fully computer-based test (CBT)

  • Number of Subjects: 37 (13 Languages, 23 Domain Subjects, 1 General Test)

  • Test Duration: 60 minutes per paper

  • Languages Available: 13 Indian languages including Hindi, English, Bengali, Tamil, and more

  • Question Format: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

  • Marking Scheme: +5 for correct answers, -1 for incorrect ones

  • Exam Shifts: Multiple, depending on subject choices and candidate volume

No More Hybrid Mode: CBT for All

Unlike last year’s hybrid format, CUET UG 2025 will be conducted entirely in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The move ensures uniformity and streamlines the assessment process. Candidates will face digital question papers and input answers using a computer interface.

The test will be conducted in 13 languages, including:

  • Hindi

  • Assamese

  • Bengali

  • Gujarati

  • English

  • Kannada

  • Malayalam

  • Marathi

  • Tamil

  • Telugu

  • Urdu

  • Punjabi

  • Odia

Candidates had to select their preferred exam language at the time of filling out the application form. No changes can be made later.

CUET UG 2025 Exam Pattern: Subject Breakdown

This year, NTA has confirmed the test will cover a total of 37 subjects:

  1. 13 Languages

  2. 23 Domain-Specific Subjects

  3. 1 General Aptitude Test

Candidates can choose up to five subjects in total. This selection can include one or more domain subjects along with the language test and the General Test.

➤ Test Structure

Component Details
Total Papers Up to 5 (as chosen by candidate)
Questions per Paper 50 MCQs
Duration per Paper 60 minutes
Marking Scheme +5 for correct, -1 for incorrect
Mode of Test Computer-Based

 General Test and Language Papers

The General Test evaluates logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and general awareness. It is mandatory for some universities and courses.

Language tests assess reading comprehension and grammar proficiency in the selected language. The medium of instruction and questions will be based on the language chosen during application.

Rough Work Policy During Exam

To maintain integrity and standardization, NTA will provide official rough sheets inside the exam hall. No personal papers, notebooks, or additional rough materials will be permitted.

Candidates are required to return the rough sheets to the invigilator before exiting the examination hall.

CUET UG 2025 Schedule and Admit Card Release

As of now, NTA has not officially announced the exact exam dates. However, the test is scheduled to begin in May 2025, and admit cards will be released 3–4 days prior to the exam.

The admit card will contain:

  • Selected subjects

  • Exam center details

  • Date and time of examination

  • Shift information

  • Instructions for candidates

Candidates are advised to regularly check cuet.nta.nic.in for the latest updates and notifications.

 Important Reminders for Students

  • No change of subject or language preference will be allowed once the application form is submitted.

  • Students must prepare for CBT format, including mock tests if needed.

  • Ensure system familiarity (navigating computer-based questions, timers, etc.).

  • Keep a check on official announcements to avoid misinformation.

 CUET UG 2025: What’s New?

  • Shift from hybrid to full CBT mode

  • Expanded emphasis on multiple languages

  • Better slot management based on student count

  • Increased clarity in negative marking system

These changes are aimed at ensuring a fair, smooth, and transparent admission process to central universities and participating institutions across India.

 Why CUET Matters

CUET has emerged as the gateway to undergraduate programs in top Indian universities, including:

  • Delhi University (DU)

  • Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

  • Jamia Millia Islamia

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)

  • Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)

  • And many more…

CUET ensures merit-based, standardized admission, eliminating the discrepancies caused by varying board percentages across states.

 Final Tips for Aspirants

  1. Revise all core concepts in selected domain subjects.

  2. Practice past year CUET papers and sample mocks.

  3. Stay updated via the official NTA website.

  4. Ensure your email and phone number are active for all official communications.

  5. Prepare for the General Test and language paper with equal focus.
