KKN Gurugram Desk | Akasa Airlines has officially launched its flight services from Darbhanga Airport, marking a significant milestone for air travel in the Mithilanchal region. Starting on Friday, the airline’s first flight from Darbhanga to Delhi will depart at 11:30 AM, offering a much-needed option for passengers traveling between these two cities. This new service provides more travel options for residents and commuters, significantly enhancing connectivity in the region.

Akasa Airlines’ Inaugural Flight from Darbhanga

On the morning of April 4, 2025, Akasa Airlines’ flight QP 1405 will depart from Delhi at 9:00 AM, arriving at Darbhanga Airport at 10:55 AM after a flight time of approximately 1 hour and 55 minutes. The aircraft will remain at Darbhanga Airport for 35 minutes before departing again for Delhi at 11:30 AM, arriving at Delhi at 1:25 PM.

According to Naved Najim, the director of Darbhanga Airport, Akasa Airlines has completed all necessary preparations to ensure smooth operations, and the airport is ready to handle the airline’s services. With this new route, passengers will benefit from enhanced convenience and reliable flight schedules, offering a much-needed alternative to existing services.

Improved Connectivity with Akasa Airlines

The introduction of Akasa Airlines to Darbhanga Airport significantly improves connectivity between Darbhanga and Delhi, two major hubs for business, tourism, and education. This is especially beneficial for residents in and around Mithilanchal and the neighboring Nepal region, who can now travel more conveniently to the capital city.

Before Akasa’s entry, travelers had limited flight options, particularly to busy routes such as Delhi and Mumbai, where delays and flight cancellations were a frequent issue. The new service will offer travelers better reliability and punctuality, addressing many of the challenges that passengers had faced on these routes.

Other Airlines Operating from Darbhanga Airport

Apart from Akasa Airlines, other major carriers, including SpiceJet and IndiGo, already operate flights from Darbhanga Airport. SpiceJet operates flights to and from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, while IndiGo connects Darbhanga with cities like Kolkata and Hyderabad. The addition of Akasa Airlines further enhances competition and provides passengers with more options when booking their flights, fostering an environment of better service and reliability.

Air Traffic Growth at Darbhanga Airport

Darbhanga Airport has experienced significant growth in air traffic since it was inaugurated under the Udan Scheme on November 8, 2020. Initially, SpiceJet commenced operations from Darbhanga to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, followed by IndiGo, which started flights to Hyderabad and Kolkata. This rapid growth in air connectivity has significantly increased the demand for air travel from Darbhanga.

Passenger interest in traveling from Darbhanga Airport has steadily grown, with many opting for flights to busy cities like Delhi and Mumbai, both of which are major hubs for business and tourism. The introduction of more flights, particularly to Delhi, will help alleviate some of the pressure on existing routes, especially since flight delays and cancellations were common concerns.

Challenges with Previous Airlines

While SpiceJet and IndiGo had been providing services from Darbhanga, there were frequent challenges related to flight delays, cancellations, and inconsistent flight timings. This caused significant inconvenience to passengers, particularly on high-demand routes like Delhi and Mumbai. Passengers often had to deal with uncertainty about their travel schedules, and some flights would be canceled or rescheduled at the last minute, leading to frustration.

However, with the arrival of Akasa Airlines, passengers can expect better reliability and punctuality, reducing the issues related to flight cancellations and delays. The introduction of more airlines will also create healthy competition, which is likely to improve the overall service quality at Darbhanga Airport.

Impact of Akasa Airlines on the Region

The entry of Akasa Airlines into the Darbhanga-Delhi route is a welcome development for the region, particularly for those who have faced travel difficulties due to the limited flight options in the past. Mithilanchal and the neighboring areas in Nepal will benefit from the increased connectivity, which will facilitate easier travel for business, education, and tourism purposes.

Moreover, with more airlines operating from Darbhanga, the airport is poised to become an important regional hub, catering to the needs of a diverse passenger base. The availability of multiple flight options at different times of the day will give passengers the flexibility to choose the most convenient schedules, improving the overall travel experience.

With the addition of Akasa Airlines to Darbhanga Airport, passengers now have more choices for air travel, better reliability, and a smoother travel experience. The increased frequency of flights between Darbhanga and Delhi will foster better connectivity and contribute to the region’s overall development. As air traffic continues to grow, Darbhanga is poised to become a key player in India’s air travel network, benefiting the residents of Mithilanchal and neighboring areas.

The ongoing efforts by the airport authorities to improve infrastructure and streamline operations show promise for future growth, ensuring that passengers will continue to receive excellent service. As more airlines join the ranks, travelers can look forward to a wider range of destinations and improved service quality in the coming years.
