Each year, thousands undertake the challenging yet spiritually rewarding pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine in Jammu & Kashmir, home to the naturally formed ice Shivlinga.

As the gates open for this year’s yatra, long queues for registration are already forming at designated centers. The government, in coordination with Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), has promised enhanced facilities, tighter security, and streamlined processes for a smooth experience.

The Amarnath Yatra 2025 will commence from June 29, 2025, and continue till August 19, 2025 – coinciding with the holy festival of Raksha Bandhan, the traditional closure of the yatra.

  • Duration: 52 Days

  • Shrine Altitude: Approx. 3,880 meters (12,756 ft)

  • Routes Available: Pahalgam & Baltal

Registration Details for Amarnath Yatra 2025

📌 How to Register:

Pilgrims can register through both offline and online modes:

  • Offline Mode: Designated bank branches including Punjab National Bank (PNB), Jammu & Kashmir Bank, YES Bank, and SBI are authorized for offline registration.

  • Online Mode: Registration can be done via the official SASB website www.shriamarnathjishrine.com

📅 Registration Start Date:

  • April 15, 2025

🧾 Documents Required:

  1. Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) from authorized medical institutions

  2. Government-issued Photo ID (Aadhaar/Passport/Voter ID)

  3. Passport-size photograph

 Who is Not Allowed to Undertake the Yatra?

As per the SASB guidelines, the following individuals are not eligible to undertake the yatra:

  • Children below 13 years and elderly above 75 years

  • Pregnant women

  • Persons with serious medical conditions like heart, lung, or kidney disorders

  • Individuals without a valid CHC (Compulsory Health Certificate)

These restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of yatris given the strenuous nature of the high-altitude trek.

 Routes to the Holy Cave

1. Pahalgam Route (Traditional Route):

  • Distance: Approx. 36-38 km

  • Key Stops: Chandanwari → Pissu Top → Sheshnag → Panchtarni → Holy Cave

  • Suitable for: Older pilgrims, those preferring a gradual ascent

2. Baltal Route (Shorter & Steeper):

  • Distance: Approx. 14 km

  • Key Stops: Domail → Barari → Sangam → Holy Cave

  • Suitable for: Physically fit individuals, one-day return trip

Both routes offer helicopter services, pony rides, and palanquins for those unable to trek.

Helicopter Services for 2025

Helicopter services will be available from:

  • Neelgrath (Baltal) to Panchtarni

  • Pahalgam to Panchtarni

Helicopter bookings can be made through official SASB-authorized portals only. Fake websites and agents should be strictly avoided.

Special Facilities for Pilgrims in 2025

This year, SASB and J&K administration have introduced several new amenities to improve the yatra experience:

  1. Biometric Tracking System for real-time location tracking and safety

  2. Mobile connectivity and emergency medical kits at all base camps

  3. Digital wristbands with QR codes for identity verification

  4. Pre-paid meal stalls at subsidized rates

  5. Portable oxygen cylinders and oxygen booths en route

  • Fire safety, landslide response, and weather monitoring units

According to Hindu mythology, the Amarnath Cave is the place where Lord Shiva narrated the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati. The naturally formed ice Shivlinga inside the cave symbolizes his divine presence and is a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey for many devotees.

  • Carry only limited luggage; avoid plastic and non-biodegradable items

  • Dress in warm, layered clothing suitable for snow and rain

  • Stay hydrated; avoid alcohol, smoking, and non-veg food during yatra
