KKN Gurugram Desk | As tensions in the Middle East escalate following mutual strikes between Israel and Iran, global powers including India and the United States are closely monitoring the situation. Meanwhile, in India, a high-level committee has been formed to investigate the recent Air India plane crash that left several dead and injured.

Middle East Crisis: Israel-Iran Conflict Reaches Flashpoint

On Friday morning, Israel launched a precision airstrike targeting Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, in what experts are calling the most serious military escalation between the two nations in over a decade.

According to Israeli defense officials, the strikes were aimed at disrupting Iran’s nuclear enrichment programs and weakening its strategic military installations. Within hours of the airstrike, Iran retaliated by launching missiles toward Israeli military bases and key infrastructure, further escalating regional tensions.

This exchange of attacks has alarmed global powers, particularly those dependent on the Middle East’s oil supply and those with strategic interests in the region.

Israeli PM Netanyahu Informs PM Modi About Escalating Situation

Following the developments, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to brief him about the unfolding military conflict and the motives behind Israel’s latest defense action.

Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the communication and stated that India is closely monitoring the situation. Officials also added that Indian citizens living in the region, particularly in Tel Aviv, Tehran, and surrounding areas, are being advised to stay indoors and maintain contact with local embassies.

India, which has strategic relations with both Israel and Iran, has so far maintained a neutral diplomatic stance, urging both sides to show restraint and prioritize diplomatic dialogue.

US President Backs Israeli Strike on Iran

In a strong statement, U.S. President Donald Trump described Israel’s attack as “highly precise and justified”, supporting the nation’s right to defend itself against nuclear threats. Trump emphasized that Iran’s continued defiance of international nuclear agreements posed a grave danger to regional stability and global security.

American military bases in the region have also been placed on high alert, as the Pentagon evaluates potential escalation scenarios. NATO has called an emergency meeting to assess the broader implications of the conflict.

Global Oil Prices Surge Amid Middle East Conflict

The conflict has already begun to impact global markets. Crude oil prices surged by over 6% within hours of the strikes. With Iran being one of the largest oil producers in the world, any disruption to its oil supply is likely to cause ripple effects across global energy markets.

Indian markets, particularly the energy sector, are expected to feel the heat if the conflict prolongs. The Indian government is reportedly exploring contingency plans for oil imports and pricing stability.

Air India Plane Crash: Government Forms High-Level Committee

Back home, the Indian aviation sector is under the scanner following a tragic Air India plane crash earlier this week. The incident, which took place during landing under adverse weather conditions, resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, including several medical students from Gujarat.

In response, the Government of India has constituted a high-level investigation committee to look into the causes of the crash. The committee will include members from:

  • Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)

  • Air India management

  • Ministry of Civil Aviation

  • Independent aviation safety experts

The goal is to complete the investigation within 30 days, submit a detailed report on technical failures, pilot response, air traffic control decisions, and suggest long-term reforms for aviation safety.

Aviation Safety Under Scrutiny

This tragic incident has reignited debates on air safety standards in India, especially during the monsoon season when visibility and wind speed can be challenging for flight operations.

Critics have pointed to outdated equipment at some airports and pilot fatigue as recurring issues. The government, on its part, has vowed to implement recommendations swiftly after the committee submits its findings.

In parallel, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Gujarat has written to Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran requesting financial and humanitarian support for the injured and deceased victims, particularly the young medical students.

India Balancing Domestic Crisis and International Diplomacy

The dual developments — escalating global tensions and a domestic aviation crisis — have placed the Indian government in a complex position. While ensuring passenger safety and accountability remains a top domestic priority, India also faces the delicate task of managing its diplomatic relations in a rapidly destabilizing Middle East.

Experts in foreign policy believe India will need to tread carefully to protect its economic and strategic interests, including:

  • Oil imports from Iran

  • Defense cooperation with Israel

  • Indian diaspora safety in the Middle East

  • Trade routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz

Public Reaction and Social Media Trends

The news of escalating Israel-Iran conflict and the Air India crash has dominated social media trends in India and globally. Popular hashtags currently trending include:

  • #IsraelIranWar

  • #AirIndiaCrash

  • #PrayForPeace

  • #MiddleEastTensions

  • #AviationSafetyIndia

Citizens are demanding both transparency in the crash investigation and a clear foreign policy stance from the Indian government regarding the Middle East conflict.

As the Israel-Iran military confrontation intensifies, and India grapples with the aftermath of a tragic airline accident, the coming weeks will be crucial. The Indian government’s ability to balance domestic accountability with international diplomacy will be closely watched both by its citizens and global allies.

With a formal probe into the Air India tragedy underway and tensions in the Middle East rising by the hour, June 2025 may prove to be a defining month for both Indian civil aviation and foreign policy strategy.
