Sardaarji 3 Controversy: Jasbir Jassi Supports Diljit Dosanjh Amid Criticism Over Pakistani Actress Hania Amir’s Role

Published on

The much-anticipated film Sardaarji 3 has become a focal point of controversy, especially due to the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Amir alongside Diljit Dosanjh. The film has faced severe criticism, particularly on social media, with some vocal figures in the entertainment industry, such as singer Mika Singh and B Praak, expressing their displeasure. However, in a twist, popular Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has come forward in support of Diljit Dosanjh, raising pertinent questions about the public’s double standards and hypocrisy in the entertainment industry.

In this article, we will delve into the ongoing controversy surrounding Sardaarji 3, the public backlash faced by Diljit Dosanjh, and Jasbir Jassi’s defense of the actor. We will also examine the issues raised by Jassi about the inconsistency in the way Pakistani artists are treated in Indian entertainment.

The Controversy Surrounding Sardaarji 3:
Diljit Dosanjh has been facing heavy criticism for his upcoming film Sardaarji 3, where Pakistani actress Hania Amir has been cast in a prominent role. The backlash intensified after the casting choice, especially in light of the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan. This controversy has been further fueled by recent events, including the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, and the subsequent Indian military operation, “Operation Sindoor,” in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7, 2025. These events have raised questions about the involvement of Pakistani talent in Indian cinema during such volatile times.

The public reaction to Hania Amir’s inclusion in the film reflects the growing sentiment in India about boycotting Pakistani artists from Indian entertainment projects. Critics argue that in light of the geopolitical situation, it is inappropriate for Pakistani artists to work in Indian films. While this backlash is significant, Sardaarji 3 is set to release internationally on June 27, 2025, but will not be released in India due to the ongoing controversy.

Jasbir Jassi’s Support for Diljit Dosanjh:
In the midst of this storm, Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has openly expressed his support for Diljit Dosanjh, defending both the actor and the film. During an interview with NDTV, Jassi criticized the public’s double standards when it comes to Pakistani artists in the Indian entertainment industry.

He stated, “I am seeing that Diljit Dosanjh and his film are facing backlash on social media because there is a Pakistani artist in the film. I respect people’s emotions about loving our country and standing with our nation, but why this double standard?” Jassi emphasized the contradiction of calling for the boycott of Pakistani artists while the Indian music industry and films often use music, lyrics, and compositions created by Pakistani artists.

Jasbir Jassi pointed out that many popular Indian songs are either direct copies or heavily inspired by Pakistani music, and Pakistani artists have contributed to Indian music for years. “If you don’t want Pakistani artists to sing, act, or work in Indian films, then you should remove all such content,” he added.

The Double Standards of the Public:
Jassi’s comments are a sharp critique of the public’s inconsistent stance on Pakistani artists in Indian media. He questioned why people are quick to condemn Pakistani artists while benefiting from their creative contributions, such as songs and music compositions. He argued that if the public wants a complete ban on Pakistani artists, they should demand that all content from Pakistani artists be removed from platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and other streaming services.

He also pointed out the absurdity of the situation by saying, “It’s like someone brings food to your house and you call them an enemy but continue eating the food they brought. If you want to ban Pakistani artists, then ban them entirely, don’t just target one person.”

This analogy clearly points out the hypocrisy of the situation, where people seem to have a double standard: criticizing a Pakistani artist for working in Indian cinema, yet continuing to consume music and content created by Pakistani artists that are already present in the Indian market.

Diljit Dosanjh and the Sardaarji 3 Controversy:
The controversy surrounding Sardaarji 3 isn’t just limited to Diljit Dosanjh’s involvement with Pakistani artists, but it is also reflective of the larger issue of national sentiment in entertainment. The political and social climate, especially after the terrorist attacks and military operations in Kashmir, has led to increased calls for boycotting Pakistani talent in India’s entertainment industry.

Despite the criticism, Diljit Dosanjh has remained focused on his career and continues to maintain a positive outlook. His involvement with the film and his support for his colleagues, including Hania Amir, showcases his belief in artistic collaboration regardless of nationality. The Sardaarji series has always been known for its lighthearted and entertaining nature, and the controversy surrounding the casting of Hania Amir only adds to the buzz surrounding the film.

The film’s release outside India will allow the controversy to play out in a different market, but the tension between political sentiment and artistic expression remains an ongoing issue in the entertainment industry.

The Bigger Question of Nationalism vs. Art in Indian Cinema:
The ongoing debate around Sardaarji 3 raises a larger question about nationalism versus artistic freedom in Indian cinema. Should artists be judged based on their nationality, or should their work be evaluated independently of their country of origin? Jasbir Jassi’s comments underscore the importance of viewing art and artists through a more progressive lens, one that does not allow politics to interfere with the creative process.

In today’s globalized world, cultural exchanges are more frequent than ever. Music, films, and television shows are often products of collaborative efforts between artists from different parts of the world. By isolating artists based on their nationality, the entertainment industry risks stifling creativity and hindering the flow of ideas across borders.

The Sardaarji 3 controversy highlights the growing tension between nationalism and art in Indian cinema. With the involvement of Pakistani actress Hania Amir in the film, Diljit Dosanjh and his team have faced significant backlash, with some critics calling for the boycott of Pakistani artists in Indian media. However, Jasbir Jassi’s defense of Diljit and his criticism of public double standards provide an important perspective on the issue. Jassi’s comments emphasize that the focus should be on artistic merit rather than nationality and that the entertainment industry should remain open to collaboration, regardless of political tensions.

As the debate continues, it is essential for the Indian film industry to reflect on its approach to such controversies and consider how best to balance national sentiments with the broader cultural and creative exchange. The outcome of this controversy will likely influence the future of international collaborations in Indian cinema and shape the way audiences and artists navigate political boundaries in the entertainment industry.
