Ajay Devgn Backs Deepika Padukone Over ‘8-Hour Shift’ Demand After Motherhood

Ajay Devgn Backs Deepika Padukone Over '8-Hour Shift' Demand After Motherhood;

KKN Gurugram Desk | A new controversy has sparked a fierce debate in after filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga reportedly removed Deepika Padukone from his upcoming pan- film ‘Spirit’, following her request for an 8-hour workday limit. The request came post her transition into motherhood.

The situation has drawn attention from several film industry stalwarts, including actors Ajay Devgn and Kajol, who weighed in on the matter during the trailer launch of their film Maa.

What Triggered the Dispute?

According to industry sources, Deepika Padukone had been cast opposite Prabhas in ‘Spirit’, a highly anticipated project by director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for his intense and high-budget films. However, the collaboration turned sour when Deepika allegedly asked for:

  • A strict 8-hour work shift

  • Higher remuneration for longer shooting commitments (reportedly over 100 days)

These demands reportedly did not sit well with Vanga, who then decided to replace Deepika with Triptii Dimri, who recently rose to fame with ‘Animal’.

Ajay Devgn’s Take: “Honest Filmmakers Won’t Have an Issue”

During the press conference for his upcoming film, Ajay Devgn was asked whether Deepika’s 8-hour work condition was justified and if Bollywood was open to such requests.

“I ‘t think honest filmmakers have a problem with it,” Ajay remarked, diplomatically supporting Deepika’s stand without naming anyone.

His wife and actress Kajol, who is also a mother of two, lightheartedly added:

“I love the idea of working fewer hours!”

Their responses point toward growing awareness about work-life balance in the industry, especially for women.

Deepika’s Silent Exit, Triptii’s Entry

While Deepika has chosen to remain silent publicly, reports indicate her exit was due to unmet demands. In her place, Triptii Dimri has now been confirmed as the female lead opposite Prabhas. Triptii has earlier worked with Sandeep Reddy Vanga in ‘Animal’, which was commercially successful and helped cement her place in the industry.

This change has stirred debates on:

  • Working conditions for female actors

  • Balancing motherhood and stardom

  • Changing dynamics in Bollywood post-pandemic

Industry Divided, Public Opinion Mixed

The has polarized Bollywood and fans alike. While some support Deepika’s decision to set boundaries as a new mother, others argue that film schedules often require flexibility, especially in high-budget projects.

Critics of Vanga’s decision say this sets a negative precedent for new mothers trying to stay relevant in cinema.

On the other hand, filmmakers defending Vanga claim that film timelines and investments can’t always accommodate such constraints.

Although Spirit was supposed to be Deepika’s second major Telugu-language film after ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, she has several big projects lined up, including collaborations with  brands, OTT platforms, and other pan-India films. Industry insiders believe this move won’t affect her career significantly, but it will:

  • Set a benchmark for future working conditions

  • Open more dialogue around women’s rights in cinema

  • Highlight how the industry treats working mothers
