KKN Gurugram Desk | The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has once again extended the registration deadline for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 (CSE Prelims 2025). Originally, the registration deadline was February 11, which was later extended to February 18. Now, candidates have time until February 21, 2025, to complete their application process. The online registration can be done at the official UPSC websites: upsc.gov.in and upsconline.gov.in, by 6:00 PM.

What the Latest Notification Says

The official notification released by the UPSC states, “The last date for submission for CS(P)‐2025 & IFoS(P)‐2025 has been further extended till 21.02.2025 (06:00 PM). Further, the Correction window of 7 days shall now be available from 22.02.2025 to 28.02.2025.” This extension provides candidates with additional time to apply, which is crucial as many aspirants had raised concerns about meeting the initial deadline.

Correction Window and Application Process

Candidates will be able to make corrections to their applications in the Correction Window that will be open from February 22, 2025, to February 28, 2025. This window allows candidates to rectify any errors in their submitted applications, such as wrong personal details or educational information. It’s important for all candidates to ensure their details are accurate before the correction period ends.

Number of Vacancies and Exam Overview

The UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 is expected to fill approximately 979 vacancies in various services. The UPSC CSE Prelims 2025 will be held on May 25, 2025. Candidates who clear the Prelims will move on to the Mains exam (written exam and interview).

The CSE 2025 consists of two parts:

  1. Preliminary Examination – Objective-type questions, with a negative marking system.
  2. Main Examination – Descriptive-type questions and interviews.

One-Time Registration (OTR)

It is mandatory for all candidates to create a One-Time Registration (OTR) profile before applying for the exam. This profile is valid for a lifetime, and after creating it, candidates can directly fill out the application form without re-entering their details.

Eligibility Criteria and Age Limit for UPSC CSE 2025

Educational Qualification

To be eligible for UPSC CSE 2025, candidates must have a graduation degree or its equivalent qualification from a recognized university. Candidates whose final year results are awaited can apply provisionally. If they clear the interview, they will need to provide proof of passing their qualifying exam before the final stage.

Candidates with degrees in MedicalDentalVeterinary Science, or any equivalent professional qualifications need to provide proof of internship completion. However, candidates who are yet to complete their internship can still apply, provided they submit the required documents before the interview phase.

Age Limit

The age limit for candidates is set as follows:

  • Minimum Age: 21 years as of August 1, 2025.
  • Maximum Age: 32 years as of August 1, 2025.

There are relaxations in the upper age limit for candidates from reserved categories:

  • OBC candidates: Relaxed age limit of 9 attempts.
  • SC/ST candidates: Relaxed age limit with no limit on the number of attempts.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Relaxed age limit with additional attempts.

UPSC CSE 2025 Application Fee

The application fee for UPSC CSE 2025 is ₹100. However, female candidatesSC/ST candidates, and persons with benchmark disabilities are exempt from paying the application fee. For candidates from the General category, the fee is mandatory.

Attempts Limit for UPSC CSE

The number of attempts allowed for candidates is as follows:

  • General category candidates: 6 attempts.
  • OBC category candidates: 9 attempts.
  • SC/ST candidates: Unlimited attempts until the age limit is reached.
