Rajasthan Schools Closed : Winter Wave Forces Extension of School Holidays

Published on

Severe cold wave conditions continue to affect large parts of Rajasthan, disrupting normal life across the state. Rising cold, dense fog, and freezing winds have prompted district administrations to take precautionary measures. Keeping children’s safety in mind, several district collectors have ordered an extension of school holidays in multiple regions.

Following red and orange alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department, authorities acted swiftly to reduce student exposure to extreme weather. Districts including Jaipur, Sikar, Jaisalmer, and Hanumangarh have announced revised schedules or extended holidays for schools.

Cold Wave Tightens Grip Across Rajasthan

Rajasthan is currently witnessing one of the harshest winter spells in recent years. Several areas are experiencing persistent fog and extremely low temperatures. Northern and western districts remain the worst affected. Early morning visibility has dropped sharply, and cold winds continue throughout the day.

Administrations across districts are monitoring the situation closely. Officials have clarified that decisions are being taken based on local weather conditions. Student health and safety remain the top priority.

Jaipur Schools Closed for Younger Students

In the state capital Jaipur, the district collector has announced holidays for younger students. Schools from pre-primary to Class 5 will remain closed on January 12 and January 13, 2026. This decision follows a sharp dip in morning temperatures and continued fog conditions.

Authorities have clarified that teachers and non-teaching staff must continue attending school. Administrative work and internal planning will continue despite the student holiday. Parents have welcomed the move, citing health concerns for children.

Sikar Faces Extended Cold Conditions

Sikar remains one of the coldest districts in Rajasthan during this winter spell. Due to persistent cold wave conditions, holidays for students up to Class 5 have been extended until January 17, 2026.

For students of Classes 6 to 12, schools will remain open with revised timings. Classes will now begin at 11:00 am and continue until 4:00 pm. This adjustment aims to protect students from early morning cold exposure while maintaining academic continuity.

Jaisalmer and Jalore Announce Holiday Extension

In Jaisalmer, district authorities have ordered schools to remain closed for students up to Class 8 until January 14. Similar instructions have been issued in Jalore, where younger students will also remain on holiday until the same date.

Officials stated that foggy mornings and low temperatures influenced the decision. Schools have been advised to remain alert for further instructions if weather conditions worsen.

Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar Remain on Alert

Cold wave conditions continue to impact northern Rajasthan severely. In Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar, holidays had already been extended until January 12. Authorities are reviewing weather updates and may extend holidays further if required.

Local administrations have emphasized flexibility in decision-making. Any changes will be communicated officially to schools and parents.

School Timings Revised in Jodhpur and Udaipur

In districts where full closures were not announced, administrations opted to revise school timings. In Jodhpur and Udaipur, all government and private schools will operate from 10:00 am onwards.

This adjustment is intended to reduce student exposure during peak cold hours. Officials have instructed schools to strictly follow the revised schedule.

Strict Warning Issued to Private Schools

District administrations have issued clear warnings to private schools across affected regions. Any violation of official orders regarding holidays or revised timings will invite strict disciplinary action.

Authorities stated that student safety cannot be compromised. Schools have been directed to follow instructions without exception. Parents are advised to report violations through official channels.

IMD Warns of Further Temperature Drop

According to the India Meteorological Department, cold wave conditions are expected to persist for several more days. Dense to very dense fog is likely across northern and western Rajasthan. Some areas may experience freezing temperatures during night hours.

In regions like Fatehpur and Churu, minimum temperatures have dropped as low as minus two degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have cautioned that cold intensity may increase before gradual improvement.

Parents Advised to Stay Updated

District administrations have urged parents to rely only on official school communications. Misinformation circulating on social media should be avoided. Schools will inform parents directly about any changes in schedules or holidays.

Officials also clarified that board examinations will be conducted as per the original schedule. Current weather-related holidays will not impact examination timelines.

Situation Under Continuous Review

Authorities across Rajasthan have confirmed that the situation remains under constant observation. Further decisions will depend on daily weather assessments. Any extension or revision will be announced promptly.

For now, parents, students, and schools are advised to remain cautious. As the cold wave continues, safety measures remain the top priority for district administrations across the state.
