KKN Gurugram Desk | In a historic and heartwarming gesture, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has announced 100% free education for personnel of the Indian Armed Forces and paramilitary services through its newly launched ‘Jai Jawan Scholarship’. This initiative covers all serving members of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and forces like the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB.

The scholarship will provide access to UGC-recognized online undergraduate and postgraduate programs, specifically tailored for soldiers posted across the country, from high-altitude borders to remote interiors.

Jai Jawan Scholarship: What It Offers

Under this initiative, LPU will provide 100% tuition fee waiver for:

  • Graduation Programs (Bachelor’s degrees)

  • Post-Graduation Programs (Master’s degrees)

The scholarship is applicable for the academic sessions 2025–26 and 2026–27, and all active duty personnel of the armed and paramilitary forces are eligible to apply, provided they have passed Class 12 or hold a graduate degree.

These courses will be conducted entirely online, ensuring soldiers can study anytime, anywhere, without disrupting their service.

Who Announced the Scholarship?

The announcement was made during a press conference at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, by Dr. Ashok Kumar MittalChancellor of LPU and Rajya Sabha MP.

“Our brave soldiers protect us 24×7, whether in freezing Siachen or patrolling conflict zones. This scholarship is our humble tribute to their service and sacrifice,” Dr. Mittal said.

He added that this initiative was inspired in part by the courage shown by Indian soldiers during Operation Sindoor, India’s recent anti-terror operation in Pahalgam.

These online programs are designed to be accessible on low bandwidth, making them ideal for soldiers stationed in remote or high-risk areas.

 Why This Initiative Matters

India has over 22 lakh active military and paramilitary personnel, many of whom do not get the opportunity to pursue higher education due to deployment challenges. This scholarship:

  • Empowers them through education

  • Enhances post-retirement career prospects

  • Bridges the digital learning divide

  • Respects their service with tangible rewards

In a country where soldiers are often celebrated for bravery, this initiative also addresses their educational needs and aspirations.

Inspired by Operation Sindoor: A Salute to Bravery

Dr. Mittal referred to Operation Sindoor—India’s recent counterterrorist offensive in Pahalgam—while explaining the inspiration behind the scholarship.

“Our forces showed unmatched courage in eliminating terrorist threats during Operation Sindoor. This scholarship is not just financial aid, it’s an opportunity for our soldiers to grow intellectually while continuing to serve.”

India’s Growing Focus on Education for Uniformed Services

This initiative by LPU is part of a broader national conversation around:

  • Skill development for servicemen

  • Education as a rehabilitation tool for veterans

  • Digital learning platforms for deployed personnel

  • Holistic welfare policies beyond pensions and medals

By facilitating higher education, LPU is helping personnel future-proof their careers, enabling them to take on leadership roles in the private sector, government, or academia after retirement.

In recognizing that a soldier’s strength lies not just in arms but also in intellect, LPU has set an example for other educational institutions and corporate bodies.

For every soldier manning the borders, there now exists an opportunity to earn a degree and secure a better future, all while continuing to serve the nation.
