KKN Gurugram Desk | The much-awaited NEET UG 2025 results were announced on June 14, 2025, and now successful candidates are eagerly waiting for the counseling process to begin. The National Medical Commission (NMC) is expected to release the counseling schedule soon. This year, a total of 1,18,190 MBBS seats will be available for admission in various government and private medical colleges across India. Among the many institutions, one stands out as the first medical college in the country. Let’s take a look at the seats and fee structure for MBBS at the first medical college in India.

The Oldest Medical College in India: Kolkata Medical College

According to media reports, Kolkata Medical College, located in the heart of Kolkata, is India’s oldest medical college. Established on January 28, 1835, it was founded by the British East India Company under the initiative of Lord William Bentinck, the then British Governor-General of India. The college was set up with the goal of introducing modern allopathic medical education in India.

In its inaugural year, the first batch of medical students admitted to the college consisted of 20 students from Bengal, Bihar, and Northern India. One of the notable alumni of the college is Kadambini Ganguly, one of the first female doctors in India, who completed her MBBS from the institution in 1886.

MBBS Seat Availability in Kolkata Medical College

The Kolkata Medical College offers a total of around 250 MBBS seats for aspiring medical students. Out of these, 15% of the seats, which amount to 38 seats, are allocated under the All India Quota (AIQ), while the remaining 85% (i.e., 212 seats) are reserved for the State Quota.

As of now, West Bengal has approximately 38 medical colleges, with about 26 private institutions. The total number of MBBS seats available in the state stands at 5676, which includes:

  • 3826 seats in government medical colleges

  • 350 seats in private institutions

  • 350 seats in society-run colleges

  • 1150 seats in trust-run medical colleges

MBBS Fee Structure in Kolkata Medical College

The fee structure at Kolkata Medical College is fairly affordable compared to many other private institutions in India. The tuition fee for the MBBS course is ₹40,500 per year, which makes it one of the most budget-friendly government medical colleges in India. Additionally, the hostel fee is ₹648 annually, which is quite reasonable.

According to experts and reports, in 2024, the cut-off rank for the All India Quota under the General Category was around 3427. For NEET UG 2025, the expected cut-off for the General Category is predicted to be between 610-630 marks. This is based on the historical trends and the competition in the medical entrance exam.

Facilities for MBBS Students at Kolkata Medical College

Kolkata Medical College provides a range of facilities that are essential for medical students to thrive in their academic and extracurricular pursuits. The campus is equipped with:

  • Separate hostels for male and female students.

  • 24-hour Wi-Fi facilities to help students access online resources and research material.

  • Sports facilities, including grounds for cricket, badminton, and volleyball.

  • A gym and yoga center to promote the physical well-being of students.

  • The college organizes various cultural programs and sports events throughout the year to ensure holistic development for the students.

The college campus spans over 26 acres, offering a spacious environment conducive to both learning and extracurricular activities.

The Impact of NEET UG 2025 Results on MBBS Admissions

With the NEET UG 2025 results now declared, students are eagerly waiting for the counseling process to begin. The NMC will soon release the detailed counseling schedule, and students will be able to choose their preferred colleges based on their NEET UG scores and the availability of seats.

The All India Quota (AIQ) plays a crucial role in providing opportunities for students from across the country to secure a seat in prestigious medical institutions, including Kolkata Medical College. With the expected cut-off for General Category students ranging between 610-630 marks, it is important for students to stay prepared and follow the counseling procedures carefully.

What is the NEET UG 2025 Counseling Process?

The NEET UG counseling process is a crucial step in securing a seat in medical colleges across India. The counseling is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for the All India Quota seats, and by the respective state authorities for the state quota seats. Here’s an outline of the general counseling process:

  1. Registration: Candidates must register online on the official NEET UG counseling portal.

  2. Choice Filling: After registration, candidates can fill their preferred choices of medical colleges.

  3. Seat Allotment: Based on the candidate’s NEET score, preferences, and seat availability, the seat allotment process will take place.

  4. Document Verification: After allotment, candidates will be required to provide necessary documents for verification.

  5. Final Allotment and Admission: Once the documents are verified, the final admission will be granted, and students can join the allotted medical college.

The NEET UG 2025 exam has opened the doors to medical careers for thousands of students across India. As the counseling process begins, aspiring medical students are preparing to secure a place in some of the top medical colleges in the country, including the Kolkata Medical College.

With a rich history, top-tier facilities, and affordable fees, Kolkata Medical College remains one of the most sought-after institutions for MBBS aspirants in India. Whether you’re aiming for a government medical college or looking at private institutions, NEET UG 2025 is your gateway to a successful medical career.

Candidates must keep track of important dates and cut-off marks to ensure they don’t miss out on the chance to study in some of the best medical institutions in the country. Best of luck to all the NEET UG 2025 aspirants as they begin this important journey towards becoming healthcare professionals.
