Weather Forecast During Chhath Puja in Bihar : A Shift in Conditions

Published on

As the much-awaited Chhath Puja approaches, Bihar is experiencing notable changes in its weather. Several areas, including the state capital Patna, are witnessing a rise in fog and a noticeable chill in the morning hours. According to weather experts, the situation is expected to continue, with the possibility of light rainfall and clouds after October 28. The drop in temperatures, caused by a western disturbance, is likely to impact the region significantly during this period. Chhath Puja celebrations, which involve devotees offering prayers to the Sun God, are expected to take place under overcast skies, particularly during the early morning and evening hours when the prayers are offered.

A Look at the Changing Weather Pattern During Chhath Puja

The popular festival of Chhath Puja, which holds immense significance among the people of Bihar, is likely to coincide with a shift in weather conditions across the state. As celebrations commence, local weather reports suggest that Bihar will witness cooler temperatures, especially in the morning and evening, with fog engulfing many areas. The Meteorological Department of Patna predicts that there will be intermittent clouds and the possibility of light rainfall after October 28.

According to experts, this change in weather can be attributed to a western disturbance that will affect the region. The disturbance is expected to lead to a reduction in the overall temperature, providing some relief to people amidst the ongoing celebrations.

Temperature Drop and Foggy Mornings Expected

In Patna and its surrounding areas, foggy mornings and mild cold temperatures are expected to persist for the next few days. The morning chill will be accompanied by a gradual increase in humidity levels. Although the afternoons will witness the sun breaking through the clouds, temperatures are likely to stay moderate throughout the day. The weather department suggests that temperatures in the region could drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius due to the effects of the western disturbance.

The overcast skies during Chhath Puja, particularly during the important rituals performed at dawn and dusk, will add a layer of mysticism to the festival. As devotees prepare to offer their prayers to the Sun God, the sky may remain cloudy, offering a unique setting for the rituals. Meteorologists are also predicting that the weather will remain relatively pleasant during the day, with bright sunshine expected to provide a temporary break from the cooler morning and evening temperatures.

The Western Disturbance and Its Impact on the State

Weather specialists have confirmed that the western disturbance will primarily affect the western Himalayan region around October 27. This disturbance, which often leads to weather changes such as rain and a drop in temperatures, is expected to influence Bihar’s weather as well. As the western disturbance moves eastward, it will gradually bring about a reduction in the maximum temperature across the state, including Patna.

The change is expected to be most noticeable in the coming days, with temperatures dipping by a few degrees. This drop in temperature will bring much-needed relief to people who have been enduring the intense heat in the past weeks. However, the cooler temperatures also bring with them the need for proper preparation, especially for those participating in the early morning rituals of Chhath Puja.

Maximum and Minimum Temperatures Across Major Cities in Bihar

The maximum temperature recorded in Patna recently was 33.5°C, with a minimum of 24.1°C. In comparison, other cities in Bihar also saw slightly varying temperatures. Araria Farbisganj recorded the highest temperature of 35.2°C, while Gaya witnessed a maximum of 32.6°C with a minimum of 21.6°C. In Bhagalpur, the maximum temperature was recorded at 33.1°C, while the minimum was 23.4°C.

Muzaffarpur also experienced relatively mild weather, with a maximum of 31.0°C and a minimum of 23.6°C. These temperatures indicate a transition from the summer heat to cooler conditions that are expected to persist through the upcoming days. The presence of fog in the mornings and the relatively cooler evenings will undoubtedly have an impact on the overall experience of the festival.

Impact on Devotees During Chhath Puja

For the millions of devotees observing Chhath Puja, the weather plays a crucial role in shaping the festival’s atmosphere. The cool mornings and evenings, combined with the fog, will create a serene and spiritual environment for the worshippers. During this time, the Sun God is offered prayers, with devotees standing in knee-deep water at rivers or ponds during the early morning hours to perform the rituals. The weather conditions this year may enhance the spiritual experience, providing a tranquil backdrop for these important rituals.

The cloudy skies during the morning and evening hours, when the Sun is at a low angle, will provide some relief from the direct heat of the sun, which can sometimes make the rituals difficult to perform. However, the chilly air may also require the devotees to take extra precautions, such as wearing warm clothing to avoid the effects of the cold while they stand in the water.

As Bihar prepares for the grand celebration of Chhath Puja, the weather conditions will play a significant role in shaping the experience for the devotees. With the possibility of foggy mornings, cooler temperatures, and intermittent rain after October 28, the state will witness a shift in weather patterns. The western disturbance that is expected to impact the region will result in a drop in temperatures, offering some respite from the heat that has dominated the region in recent weeks.

With this change, devotees participating in the rituals will enjoy a more comfortable atmosphere for their prayers and offerings. The cloudy skies during the important hours of Chhath Puja will add a special ambiance to the occasion, making it a memorable event for the people of Bihar. As the festival approaches, it is essential to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts to ensure that proper preparations are made for the changing conditions.

Weather conditions during festivals like Chhath Puja are always a topic of interest, and this year, the cooler weather will surely be a welcome change. As we look forward to the rituals, it is important to stay informed about the weather so that everyone can participate in the celebrations in the most comfortable and safe manner.
