IMD Rain Alert : Weather Change Expected Across North India From January 22

Published on

After a gradual decline in cold conditions, weather patterns are shifting across North India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for several northern states. According to the forecast, rainfall activity is likely between January 22 and January 25. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may also accompany the rain in many regions.

The IMD alert comes at a time when temperatures had started rising after a prolonged cold spell. The fresh weather system is expected to bring temperature fluctuations and temporary relief from dry conditions. Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar, are likely to experience changing weather conditions over the next few days.

Rain and Thunderstorm Warning for Nine States

As per IMD updates, rain and thunderstorm activity is expected in at least nine states of North India. The affected regions include Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and parts of Bihar. The department has warned of rainfall at isolated locations during this period.

Strong surface winds with speeds reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour may also occur. These winds could impact visibility and daily activities in some areas. The IMD has advised people to stay cautious, especially during thunderstorm hours.

On January 20, Himachal Pradesh is expected to witness rainfall along with lightning. This weather event may disrupt normal life in hilly areas. From January 22 to January 25, Punjab is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may experience heavy rain and snowfall on January 20 and January 21.

Temperature Likely to Drop After Rainfall

Rainfall across North India may lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures. Meteorological experts believe that daytime and nighttime temperatures could fall after cloud cover and precipitation increase. The recent rise in minimum temperatures is expected to slow down once rain activity begins.

The IMD has indicated that cloud movement and scattered rainfall have already raised minimum temperatures by four to six degrees Celsius in several cities. This trend may reverse slightly after January 22 as colder winds move in.

Delhi Weather Forecast: Rain Expected From January 23

Delhi is expected to see mixed weather conditions in the coming days. On January 20, the minimum temperature in the morning was around eight degrees Celsius. Bright sunshine is likely during the afternoon hours, offering relief from earlier cold mornings.

The weather department has issued a warning for light to moderate rainfall in the national capital starting Friday, January 23. Dense fog may also return during early morning hours for the next three to four days. Despite this, severe cold wave conditions are unlikely at present.

The IMD has stated that fog intensity will depend on wind speed and cloud cover. Commuters are advised to remain alert during morning travel hours due to reduced visibility.

Uttar Pradesh Sees Rapid Weather Changes

Weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh are changing rapidly. Cold wave conditions and dense fog are gradually disappearing across the state. Cities like Barabanki, Kanpur, Raebareli, and nearby districts have reported reduced fog levels.

In rural areas, light to moderate fog is still visible during early morning hours. However, daytime temperatures have started crossing 20 degrees Celsius in most districts. Clear skies and sunshine have been observed in Varanasi during the daytime.

Western Uttar Pradesh experienced fog during morning hours, but visibility improved as the day progressed. The IMD expects cloud cover and occasional rainfall in parts of the state between January 22 and January 25.

Lucknow Records Sharp Rise in Temperature

The state capital Lucknow witnessed unusual weather patterns recently. On Monday, the maximum temperature increased by nearly five degrees Celsius, reaching 26.4 degrees. Night temperatures also rose due to cloud movement and were recorded at 11.6 degrees Celsius.

Weather scientist Atul Singh said that haze is expected in the city during Tuesday morning hours. Clear weather conditions are likely during the day. He added that cloud cover and light rainfall have contributed to higher minimum temperatures across the region.

According to experts, temperature variations may continue as western disturbances influence northern India. Residents are advised to stay updated with daily forecasts.

Bihar Weather Update: Cooling Expected After January 20

Bihar, which shares its border with Uttar Pradesh, is also expected to witness changing weather conditions. According to the IMD, temperatures may decline by one to two degrees Celsius in several districts starting January 20.

Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, Buxar, Siwan, Bhojpur, Saran, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Purnia, Katihar, and Araria are among the districts likely to see a slight temperature drop. Morning winds may blow at speeds ranging from five to ten kilometers per hour.

These winds could increase the chill factor during early hours. Fog conditions may also reappear in some areas depending on humidity levels.

IMD Advises Caution During Weather Transition

The India Meteorological Department has advised residents to remain cautious during the changing weather phase. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds may pose risks in certain regions. Farmers and travelers are especially advised to plan activities carefully.

With multiple western disturbances affecting North India, weather conditions may continue to fluctuate. The IMD will issue regular updates as the situation develops. Residents are encouraged to follow official advisories for safety and preparedness.

The upcoming rainfall is expected to provide temporary relief from dry conditions while also bringing a slight chill back to the region.
