Ahead of the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, Prashant Kishore, the founder of Jan Suraj, has strongly criticized the Nitish Kumar-led government for its decision to implement the domicile policy in teacher recruitment. Kishore labeled this move as deceptive and said that it was a political strategy to gain favor before the elections. He pointed out that Nitish Kumar had changed the domicile policy in 2023, claiming that the change was made because of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

According to Prashant Kishore, Nitish Kumar, in his desire to become the Prime Minister, had taken jobs away from the youth of Bihar. He argued that despite 3 lakh teacher vacancies being filled, most of the jobs went to outsiders rather than local students. Now, with the assembly elections drawing near, the government has decided to amend the domicile policy to cater to local needs, but Kishore sees this as a political move rather than a genuine effort to empower the youth of Bihar.

Kishore’s Critique on the Amendment of Domicile Policy

Prashant Kishore expressed his concerns about the change in the domicile policy and the timing of its implementation. He questioned the government’s motives, stating that it was merely a tactic to influence voters as the Bihar Assembly elections approached. According to Kishore, if the domicile policy is now being applied in the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4), then it should ensure that all 100% of the seats are reserved for students from Bihar. He believes that the government’s efforts to make changes in the policy are not rooted in a genuine desire to help local youth but are instead designed to garner support ahead of the elections.

Kishore emphasized that Bihar’s youth need to understand the broader context of these policy changes. He reminded them of the welfare measures implemented by Jan Suraj, which he claims have led to improvements in the lives of the elderly, disabled, and widows. Under Jan Suraj, pensions for these groups had increased from ₹400 to ₹1100, and the honorarium for cooks had been doubled. He highlighted these achievements to show the contrast between the initiatives taken by Jan Suraj and the actions of the current government.

Kishore Highlights the Injustice Faced by Bihar’s Youth

Prashant Kishore pointed out that for the last 20 years, the elderly in Bihar had been receiving a meager pension of ₹400. He noted that during the three years when Tejashwi Yadav was part of the government, not a single rupee had been added to this amount. However, under Jan Suraj’s administration, the pension was significantly increased, showing a clear contrast in governance. Kishore believes that such positive reforms have created fear among the current political establishment, as the growing popularity of Jan Suraj and the trust of the people pose a significant challenge to the existing leadership.

Kishore’s statement in Sitamarhi during the “Bihar Badlav Yatra” further reinforced his belief that the people of Bihar are now more aware of the inefficiencies and manipulation by the current government. He suggested that the youth, particularly those who were once sidelined in job opportunities, should now focus on the fact that change is possible if a new political order, like Jan Suraj, comes into power.

Kishore’s Call for a New Political Shift

Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj campaign has been actively calling for a shift in Bihar’s political landscape. He has continuously pointed out the failures of Nitish Kumar’s government, especially regarding policies that directly impact the youth, such as the domicile policy. Kishore has been vocal about the fact that Nitish Kumar’s policy changes seem to be more about securing votes than actually addressing the needs of the people. According to Kishore, the youth of Bihar deserve opportunities and reforms that go beyond political gimmicks.

He also noted that while there were discussions and promises made regarding job creation and youth welfare, the real impact had been minimal. With this in mind, Kishore advocates for the Jan Suraj model, which he believes will bring about real and lasting change for the people of Bihar. By focusing on systemic reforms and addressing long-standing issues such as pension distribution, healthcare, and employment, Jan Suraj aims to create a more equitable and just system for all sections of society, including the youth.

Nitish Kumar’s Approach to Youth Welfare and Domicile Policy

Nitish Kumar’s political decisions, especially regarding employment and welfare policies, have often been under scrutiny. While his government made significant strides in certain areas, critics like Prashant Kishore argue that the changes often happen too close to elections, suggesting a more opportunistic approach. The sudden amendment to the domicile policy, according to Kishore, reflects this pattern of political maneuvering, where policy shifts are made not for the welfare of the people but to ensure political advantage.

Kishore’s critique revolves around the idea that Bihar’s youth are being used as pawns in the political game, with policies designed more for winning elections than addressing the real issues. The 2023 amendment to the domicile policy, which many see as politically motivated, has added fuel to the fire. Despite this, Kishore continues to emphasize that Jan Suraj is committed to ensuring that the youth of Bihar are given the opportunities they deserve without the manipulation of political gains.

Understanding the Broader Context of Bihar’s Political Challenges

The domicile policy has long been a point of contention in Bihar, especially regarding job opportunities for local residents. While the state has seen some positive reforms, the issue of securing employment for local youth remains a challenge. Prashant Kishore has argued that the changes in the domicile policy are not enough to solve the deeper issues plaguing the state. He believes that for Bihar’s youth to truly succeed, systemic changes in education, employment, and governance are needed.

While political leaders may argue that such changes will benefit the youth, Kishore’s perspective suggests that they are not addressing the root causes of unemployment and underdevelopment in the state. His call for a new political shift through Jan Suraj reflects his belief that Bihar needs a government that is more attuned to the needs of its people rather than one that uses policy changes as a tool for electioneering.

Prashant Kishore’s Vision for Bihar’s Future

Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj campaign is centered around the idea of reform and empowerment for the people of Bihar, especially the youth. Kishore’s criticism of Nitish Kumar’s government highlights the frustration of many who feel that their voices have been ignored for too long. The issues of job security, fair policies, and youth welfare are at the heart of Jan Suraj’s agenda. By offering an alternative vision for Bihar, Kishore hopes to address these issues head-on and create a more inclusive political environment where the youth can thrive.

Kishore’s push for a more transparent, efficient, and fair system underlines his commitment to not only reforming policies but also ensuring that they are implemented in a way that genuinely benefits the people of Bihar. His ongoing campaign is focused on showing the people that there is a real alternative to the existing political establishment and that change is possible with the right leadership.

As Bihar gears up for the upcoming elections, the political landscape is evolving. With leaders like Prashant Kishore challenging the status quo, the youth of Bihar are beginning to see a path forward that does not rely on old political tactics. Kishore’s focus on systemic change, youth empowerment, and fair policies is resonating with many, especially those who feel left behind by the current government.

Whether or not Kishore’s Jan Suraj campaign can bring about the change it promises remains to be seen. However, his critique of Nitish Kumar’s government and his call for a more equitable future for Bihar’s youth are raising important questions about the state’s political direction. As the elections approach, the people of Bihar will have to decide whether they want to continue with the status quo or embrace a new path forward.
