KKN Gurugram Desk |  In a unique celebration of love and culture, a Sri Lankan groom, Kishalay Eknayake, brought his wedding procession to Muzaffarpur, Bihar, where he married Ruchika Kishore in a traditional Hindu ceremony. The couple’s journey from Colombo University to the altar in Bihar is a heartwarming tale of cross-cultural romance. Their wedding brought together two distinct cultures and showcased the beauty of blending traditions from both Sri Lanka and Bihar.

A Love Story that Crossed Borders

The love story between Kishalay and Ruchika started back in 2019 when they met at Colombo University in Sri Lanka. The two were studying in different fields at the university, and it didn’t take long for them to develop a close bond. The cultural and emotional connection between the two grew as they spent more time together during their academic pursuits. After a year of building trust and friendship, Kishalay finally expressed his feelings, and Ruchika reciprocated, agreeing to marry him.

However, this was just the beginning of their journey. Ruchika had a challenge to overcome – how to convince her family about the relationship and seek their approval. With the help of her uncle, Devanshu Kishore, Ruchika managed to bring her family on board. This led to the planning of a wedding in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, where Ruchika’s family resides.

Cultural Confluence: The Fusion of Sri Lankan and Bihari Traditions

This wedding wasn’t just the union of two individuals but the coming together of two rich cultures. Kishalay, hailing from Colombo, Sri Lanka, is the son of business tycoon Arun Eknayake and Devika Eknayake. On the other hand, Ruchika is the daughter of Himanshu Kishore and Aparna Kishore, both of whom belong to the Gannipur locality of Muzaffarpur.

As part of the Hindu marriage customs, Kishalay and Ruchika exchanged vows in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Muzaffarpur. The wedding was marked by Saat Phere (seven rounds around the sacred fire), where the couple pledged to stay together for seven lifetimes. The local residents of Muzaffarpur were witnesses to this extraordinary cultural blending.

Ravana’s Land to Bihar: The Significance of the Marriage

This marriage also had symbolic significance, as it was reminiscent of an ancient mythological story. In the past, Lord Ram is said to have brought his marriage procession to Mithila (modern-day Bihar) to marry Sita, only for Ravana to abduct her and take her to Lanka (now Sri Lanka). In a twist of fate, a groom from Lanka arrived in Bihar for a wedding, reversing the old story and forging a beautiful bond between the two lands.

Kishalay’s Enthusiasm for Indian Culture

Kishalay, a Sri Lankan businessman, expressed immense joy at experiencing the rich cultural heritage of India, particularly Bihar. He stated, “I am very happy to have had the opportunity to marry in India, and especially in Bihar. Indian culture, especially Bihar’s traditions, is so beautiful that words can’t fully describe it. I’m truly honored and blessed to have experienced it firsthand.”

A Proud Father: Arun Eknayake’s Affection for Indian Traditions

Kishalay’s father, Arun Eknayake, shared his feelings about his son’s wedding and his newfound admiration for Indian customs. “I have become a fan of Indian customs, especially the Bihari way of celebrating weddings. The warmth of the people here is unparalleled, and we are thoroughly enjoying the celebrations,” said Arun, who was part of the wedding festivities and participated wholeheartedly in the joyous occasion.

A Memorable Celebration: Sri Lankan Guests Enjoy Bhojpuri Beats

The wedding was not just about the union of two souls, but it also highlighted the joy of cultural exchange. The Sri Lankan guests joined in the celebrations by dancing to traditional Bhojpuri songs, bringing together the sounds of both Sri Lanka and Bihar. Even though only six people from the groom’s side attended, including Kishalay, his parents, two sisters, and some friends, their presence was felt in every corner of the wedding, as they enjoyed the local music, food, and rituals.

The Ceremony: A Traditional Bihari Wedding with a Global Twist

The wedding was a Bihari Hindu wedding in every sense, complete with traditional rituals, songs, and cultural ceremonies. The bride, Ruchika, wore an elegant red lehenga choli, while the groom, Kishalay, donned a classic sherwani. The ceremony followed all the customary steps, from the Baraat procession to the sacred Varmala exchange.

As the evening progressed, the newlyweds exchanged garlands, pledged their love, and celebrated the union in front of their families and close friends. The wedding was a truly unique fusion of Sri Lankan hospitality and Bihari traditions, representing the union of not only two hearts but two cultures.

The Emotional and Joyous Atmosphere of the Wedding

For Ruchika, this was the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. “I am so happy that my dream has come true today. I feel like the luckiest woman in the world to marry the love of my life in such a beautiful and culturally rich ceremony,” said Ruchika, who was overwhelmed with joy.

As the newlyweds danced together, celebrating their new beginning, it was clear that this wedding was not just about the joining of two people but also the beautiful merger of Sri Lankan and Bihari traditions.

What the Wedding Symbolized: Love, Unity, and Cultural Understanding

This wedding is more than just a union of two people; it represents the power of love and understanding between cultures. Kishalay and Ruchika’s love story has been a journey of overcoming cultural differences, familial expectations, and personal challenges. Their wedding not only celebrates the strength of their bond but also highlights the importance of cultural understanding and respect in today’s globalized world.

In today’s era of global connectivity, such weddings serve as a reminder that love transcends geographical boundaries and can bring people together, no matter their cultural background. This marriage is a testament to the beauty of cross-cultural unions, where love and respect for each other’s traditions and beliefs pave the way for lasting relationships.

The marriage of Kishalay Eknayake from Sri Lanka and Ruchika Kishore from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, is a remarkable example of how love can unite people from different backgrounds. Their wedding was not just a celebration of their relationship but also an incredible fusion of Sri Lankan and Bihari cultures.

As their journey continues, they will undoubtedly continue to inspire others by proving that love knows no borders, and culture only adds to the richness of life’s most beautiful moments. Their wedding is a true reflection of the fact that no matter where you come from, the bonds of love, respect, and understanding will always prevail.
