In a monumental undertaking poised to transform Sitamarhi into a major pilgrimage hub, the construction of a grand Maa Janaki Temple is set to commence, mirroring the scale and grandeur of the recently inaugurated Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya. This ambitious project at Punauradham, the revered birthplace of Goddess Sita, is estimated to cost a staggering ₹1,000 crore. The Bihar government’s vision is to develop Punauradham as a spiritual destination akin to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra in Ayodhya, attracting devotees and tourists from across the globe.

According to sources within the Tourism Department, M/s Design Associates Incorporateds, a Noida-based firm, has been selected as the design consultant for this prestigious project. With the design now under development by the construction agency, a detailed draft for the comprehensive development of the area is being prepared. This draft is expected to be presented to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by the agency very soon, signaling a crucial step forward in realizing this spiritual landmark.

Land Acquisition Underway for Expansive Temple Complex

The current Maa Janaki Temple complex already has 17 acres of land under the control of the Bihar State Religious Trust Board. However, to achieve the vision of a holistic and grand development, an additional 50 acres of land is required. This significant expansion will accommodate the temple’s expansive design, along with essential amenities for pilgrims.

The good news is that the land acquisition process for this additional acreage has already begun and is expected to be completed swiftly. To facilitate this crucial step, ₹120 crore has already been made available for the acquisition. This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to expediting the project and ensuring all necessary resources are allocated.

Shri Janaki Janmabhoomi Punauradham Mandir Nyas Samiti: Driving the Project Forward

A pivotal development in accelerating the construction of the Maa Janaki Temple is the official formation of the Shri Janaki Janmabhoomi Punauradham Mandir Nyas Samiti (Trust Committee). This nine-member committee is now fully operational and is tasked with overseeing the entire construction and development process.

The committee is headed by the Chief Secretary of Bihar, who serves as its President, while the Development Commissioner holds the position of Vice-President. This high-level leadership ensures seamless coordination, efficient decision-making, and direct governmental backing for the project. The establishment of this dedicated trust committee is expected to bring significant momentum to the temple’s construction and overall development plans for Punauradham.

Designing a Grand Temple: Emulating Ayodhya’s Majesty

The design of the grand Janaki Temple in Sitamarhi is envisioned to accommodate thousands of devotees for darshan and worship simultaneously, a testament to its scale and the anticipated influx of pilgrims. Drawing inspiration from the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the new Janaki Temple will incorporate modern infrastructure alongside traditional architectural elements.

Key facilities planned as part of the comprehensive development include:

  • Extensive Parking Facilities: To manage the large volume of vehicles from devotees traveling from various parts of the country, ample and well-organized parking areas will be constructed. These facilities will be designed to handle significant traffic, ensuring a smooth arrival and departure experience for pilgrims.
  • Modern Dharamshalas (Pilgrim Residences): Accommodation is a crucial aspect for any major pilgrimage site. The project includes the construction of comfortable and well-equipped dharamshalas to provide lodging for thousands of devotees, offering a restful and convenient stay.
  • Enhanced Security Measures: Given the expected high footfall, robust security arrangements will be a paramount consideration. The plans encompass comprehensive security protocols, from vehicle parking areas to the temple premises, ensuring the safety and peace of mind of all visitors.
  • Improved Connectivity and Accessibility: Beyond the temple complex itself, the development will likely include upgrades to surrounding infrastructure, such as roads and pathways, to ensure better accessibility and a smoother pilgrimage experience for all.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has already shared initial glimpses of the Maa Janaki Temple’s design, fueling excitement among devotees and the public. These designs indicate a blend of traditional spiritual aesthetics with modern engineering, promising a structurally sound and visually stunning edifice that will stand as a beacon of faith for centuries.

Punauradham’s Transformation: A Spiritual and Economic Boost

The development of Punauradham into a major pilgrimage center is not just a spiritual endeavor; it holds immense potential for socio-economic development in the Sitamarhi region. The project is expected to create numerous employment opportunities, boost local tourism, and stimulate the regional economy. As more pilgrims visit, there will be increased demand for hospitality services, local crafts, transportation, and other related businesses, leading to overall prosperity for the area.

This initiative is a strategic move by the Bihar government to bolster its tourism sector and showcase its rich cultural and religious heritage. By developing Punauradham on the lines of Ayodhya, Bihar aims to attract a significant portion of the national and international religious tourism market, positioning Sitamarhi as an essential stop on India’s spiritual map.

The Maa Janaki Temple project signifies a commitment to preserving and promoting a vital part of Indian cultural heritage. As the birthplace of Sita Mata, Punauradham holds deep spiritual significance for millions of devotees worldwide. The construction of this grand temple will not only fulfill a long-cherished dream for many but also establish a lasting legacy for future generations.

The coming months will be critical as the design is finalized, land acquisition completed, and the construction agency moves on-site. KKNLive.com will continue to bring you the latest updates on this transformative project as the Maa Janaki Temple takes shape in Sitamarhi.
