IMD Forecasts Above-Normal Temperatures and Dry Conditions Across Bihar, No Sign of Early Winter Chill

Published on

As Bihar moves further into November, residents are noticing a stark difference from previous years. The usual post-Diwali chill, which signals the arrival of winter, is missing this time. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an unusually warm November for the state, with temperatures remaining above normal throughout the month. This unexpected warmth is coupled with dry conditions and no significant rainfall in sight, offering little relief to those anticipating the arrival of winter.

According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, both the maximum and minimum temperatures in Bihar are expected to stay above their seasonal averages in November. With no early signs of a cold front, the state will experience an extended period of warmer weather. The IMD confirmed that there would be no severe cold expected in the immediate future. Additionally, the forecast suggests that the dry weather will persist, which could cause temperatures to rise further.

Weather Patterns and Predictions for November in Bihar

Typically, November marks the transition from autumn to winter in Bihar, bringing cooler mornings and occasional fog. However, this year, meteorologists predict a departure from the usual patterns. Instead of the typical chilly mornings, the state will witness clear skies, bright sunshine, and dry winds throughout the month. The absence of western disturbances—weather systems that typically bring cold winds to northern India—is one of the key factors contributing to the delayed onset of winter this year.

The IMD’s forecast indicates that daytime temperatures could rise by two to six degrees Celsius over the next few days, which will make for an unusually warm start to the month. In particular, Sheikhpura recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6°C on Sunday, which is several degrees above the normal temperature for this time of year. Such warm temperatures are expected to continue across the state as November progresses.

Although Cyclone Montha briefly brought showers and a slight drop in temperatures last week, its effects have now dissipated. On Sunday, only a few districts, such as Jamui, Gaya, and Madhubani, experienced scattered rain before the sunshine returned. This rainfall, however, had minimal impact on the overall weather pattern, and the dry conditions are expected to persist.

Minimal Rainfall and Delayed Winter Chill

Meteorologists have indicated that light fog and some drizzle are possible in mid-November, especially in Bihar’s eastern and southern regions. These conditions are not expected to bring any significant change in temperatures, and the state will likely continue to experience dry weather. It’s important to note that the real winter chill, which residents of Bihar are eagerly waiting for, is not expected until December. Cities such as Patna, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga may see temperatures drop to around 8°C in the coming month.

For now, the dry and warm conditions will remain a dominant feature of Bihar’s weather. While this may be a relief for farmers who are drying their fields after the recent heavy rains, it’s an unusual delay for those hoping for the usual early winter chill. With no major rainfall expected in the near future, the warm and dry conditions will likely continue to shape the weather for the rest of the month.

Impact on Farmers and Daily Life in Bihar

While many are disappointed by the delay in cooler weather, there are some benefits to the extended warmth, particularly for farmers. After the heavy rainfall in previous weeks, the dry conditions offer much-needed relief, helping farmers to dry their crops and prepare their fields for the next stages of planting and harvesting. This weather pattern, though atypical, has allowed agricultural activities to continue without the disruption of heavy rains.

However, for residents who were anticipating the cool, crisp air typically associated with November, the absence of winter weather can feel like a prolonged summer. Those looking forward to sweaters, scarves, and chilly evenings will have to wait a bit longer this year. While the heat persists, people in Bihar will need to adapt to the unseasonable warmth for the time being.

In summary, Bihar is experiencing a warm and dry November, with temperatures forecast to remain above normal throughout the month. The lack of significant rainfall and the absence of western disturbances have kept the state’s weather unusually warm for this time of year. While light fog and occasional drizzle are expected in some regions, the true winter chill will likely arrive only in December. For now, the weather remains more reminiscent of late October than early November, providing both challenges and relief for different sections of society.
