Heavy Rainfall Brings Relief to Patna and Bihar: Yellow Alert Issued for Eight Districts

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | On Saturday, several parts of Bihar, including Patna, witnessed heavy rainfall, providing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. According to the Meteorological Department, a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in eight districts, and the state is expected to experience continued rainfall until June 27. The showers brought a dip in temperatures, with Patna recording a maximum temperature of 32.2°C, offering a welcome break from the intense summer heat.

Rainfall Brings Respite from Scorching Heat in Patna and Bihar

The weather turned pleasant in Patna and surrounding regions as heavy rain showers arrived over the weekend. This rainfall came as a blessing for residents, who had been battling the relentless heat wave in the days leading up to the weekend. With temperatures soaring past 40°C in some parts of the state, the rain was an unexpected but welcomed change, dropping the mercury by a few degrees.

Patna, the state capital, recorded a maximum temperature of 32.2°C on Saturday, which was a significant drop compared to the recent days of extreme heat. The rainfall not only brought down the temperatures but also provided some relief to the crops that had been suffering due to the dry conditions.

Meteorological Department’s Warning and Yellow Alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in eight districts of Bihar. The alert indicates the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall and advises people to stay cautious. These eight districts are expected to experience continued rainfall over the next few days, with more showers forecasted in the coming week.

The yellow alert has been issued for the following districts: Jamui, Gaya, Nawada, Bhagalpur, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, and Patna. Local authorities have been advised to remain on high alert, as the rainfall could lead to potential disruptions in daily life, including waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas.

Jamui Records Highest Rainfall

In terms of rainfall, Jamui’s Garhi area received the heaviest downpour on Saturday, with 71 millimeters of rain recorded. This was the highest amount of rainfall in the state on that day, significantly contributing to the relief in the region. The rain helped cool down the area and reduce the discomfort caused by the heatwave.

While Jamui saw the most rainfall, other districts like Patna, Gaya, and Bhagalpur also received significant showers. The weather department has forecasted that these districts, along with others in the state, will continue to see moderate rainfall over the next few days.

Impact of Rain on Agriculture and Daily Life

The ongoing rainfall in Bihar is particularly beneficial for the state’s agriculture, which has been under strain due to the hot and dry conditions of late. Paddy, which is a major crop in the region, stands to benefit from the rainfall, as the state enters the monsoon season. The timely rain could help improve crop yields and ensure a better harvest for local farmers.

However, the rain also brings with it some challenges. Heavy downpours can cause waterlogging, especially in urban areas like Patna, where drainage systems may not be able to cope with sudden heavy rainfall. Additionally, there is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas and along riverbanks, which could affect daily life and transportation in the region.

Despite these challenges, the benefits of rainfall in alleviating the heat and aiding agriculture cannot be overstated. The weather department has advised people to stay alert and take necessary precautions, particularly in flood-prone areas.

Forecast for the Coming Days

The weather department has predicted that the rainfall will continue until at least June 27, with the possibility of more widespread rainfall as the monsoon season progresses. As the monsoon front moves closer to Bihar, it is expected to bring even more rain, leading to further cooling in the region.

The ongoing rains also signal the gradual onset of the monsoon season, which is crucial for agriculture in Bihar. The state is likely to see more intense rainfall in the coming days, which could significantly impact the state’s weather patterns and water levels.

The recent rainfall in Patna and across Bihar has brought significant relief to residents, providing a break from the relentless heat. With a yellow alert issued for eight districts and more rain expected, the state is preparing for continued changes in weather. While the rainfall is beneficial for agriculture, authorities remain vigilant about potential flooding and waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas.

For the coming days, Bihar is expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, with the Meteorological Department advising residents to remain prepared for possible disruptions. As the state transitions into the monsoon season, the rainfall will play a critical role in supporting agriculture, but it is essential for locals to stay informed and cautious.
