Five Bihar State Highway Projects Get Green Signal After ADB Approval

Published on

The construction of five major state highways in Bihar has officially moved forward. The Road Construction Department has granted work permission to selected agencies. This decision followed approval from the Asian Development Bank for project evaluation. With this clearance, long-pending road infrastructure projects have entered the execution phase.

The Bihar State Road Development Corporation operates under the Road Construction Department. It had earlier submitted the Price Bid Evaluation report to the funding agency. After reviewing the report, the Asian Development Bank approved the proposal. The approval has now unlocked financial assistance for the state government.

Bihar to Receive Major Financial Support for Road Projects

After receiving approval, Bihar will get financial assistance worth 200 million US dollars. This amount is nearly equal to 2900 crore rupees. The funding will support the construction of five state highways across different districts. Officials believe this investment will significantly improve road connectivity.

The funding approval ensures smoother execution of the projects. The selected construction agencies have already received formal permission to begin work. With this step, the long-awaited road projects have finally moved beyond planning stages.

Total Road Length Stands at 225 Kilometers

The five approved road projects have a combined length of 225 kilometers. These roads are currently in poor condition at many locations. Most of them are single-lane roads struggling with rising traffic pressure. The new construction will upgrade these roads to at least two lanes.

Officials stated that lane width may increase further if traffic density demands it. The upgraded roads will meet modern safety and engineering standards. This will help reduce travel time and improve vehicle movement.

Phased Reimbursement System Explained

According to departmental officials, funds will be released through a phased reimbursement model. As construction progresses, the Asian Development Bank will reimburse expenses. This system ensures transparency and financial discipline during execution.

Officials also confirmed that the state government had obtained prior approval. This approval was secured before construction work began. Only after this consent were DPRs prepared and tenders issued.

Preparatory Work Completed Before Approval

Before financial clearance, the government completed groundwork activities. Detailed Project Reports were prepared for all five roads. Land acquisition processes were initiated and largely completed. Tenders were floated only after addressing legal and technical requirements.

This advance preparation helped speed up final approvals. It also reduced the risk of delays during execution. Officials believe the projects will now progress smoothly.

Two-Year Completion Target Set

All five road projects are scheduled for completion within two years. The timeline will begin from the official start date of construction. Authorities have instructed agencies to maintain strict quality standards. Regular monitoring will be conducted throughout the construction period.

Once completed, the roads will support both passenger and freight traffic. Improved highways are expected to strengthen regional economic activity.

Multiple Districts to Benefit from Improved Connectivity

The new state highways will directly benefit several districts. These include Bhojpur, Munger, Banka, Nawada, Gaya ji, Nalanda, Saran, and Muzaffarpur. Improved roads will enhance access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.

Officials said better roads will also support tourism and local businesses. Reduced travel time will encourage movement between districts.

Gaya ji District Road Project Details

One of the approved projects lies in Gaya ji district. The Banganga–Jethian–Gahlaur–Bhinds road has been selected. The road length measures 41.256 kilometers. Construction is estimated to cost 361 crore 325 lakh rupees.

This road serves several rural pockets. Its upgrade will improve access to nearby towns and markets. Locals have welcomed the announcement with optimism.

Munger and Banka District Road Upgrade

Another major project connects Munger and Banka districts. The Asarganj–Shambhuganj–English Mode–Punsiya–Dhoraiya road is included. The total length of this road is 72.183 kilometers. Construction expenditure is estimated at 701 crore 26 lakh rupees.

This stretch plays a crucial role in regional connectivity. Its widening will ease congestion and improve travel safety.

Bhojpur District to Get Wider Highway

In Bhojpur district, the Ara–Ekauna–Khaira–Sahar road will be developed. The road length is approximately 32 kilometers. The estimated cost of construction stands at 373 crore 56 lakh rupees.

This road connects important commercial zones. Upgrading it will help reduce traffic bottlenecks. Farmers and traders are expected to benefit significantly.

Saran and Siwan District Road Project

A key road connecting Saran and Siwan districts has also received approval. The Chhapra–Manjhi–Darauli–Guthni road will be upgraded. This road is around 32 kilometers long. The estimated project cost is 373 crore 56 lakh rupees.

This route experiences heavy daily traffic. The upgrade will improve safety and reduce travel delays.

Muzaffarpur Road and High-Level Bridge Project

The fifth project is located in Muzaffarpur district. The Hathauri–Atarar–Babhangama–Aurai road with a high-level bridge is included. The total length of this project is 21 kilometers. Construction is expected to cost around 814 crore 22 lakh rupees.

This project includes bridge infrastructure. It is considered technically complex and highly important. Once completed, it will improve connectivity during floods.

Officials Emphasize Development Impact

Departmental officials stated that these projects mark a major infrastructure milestone. Improved state highways will support economic growth and job creation. Construction activities will also generate local employment.

Authorities believe the projects will strengthen Bihar’s transport network. Enhanced road connectivity remains a key development priority.

A Major Boost for Bihar’s Infrastructure Push

The approval from the Asian Development Bank has strengthened Bihar’s infrastructure roadmap. With funding secured and agencies mobilized, execution is set to begin soon.

The state government expects timely completion and lasting benefits. These highways are expected to reshape regional mobility. The projects signal a renewed focus on modern road infrastructure across Bihar.
