Darbhanga District Election Result 2025 : NDA Sweeps All 10 Seats, Mahagathbandhan Faces Setback

Published on

In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerged victorious in all 10 seats of Darbhanga district. This marked a complete wipeout for the Mahagathbandhan, which failed to win any seats in the district. The NDA’s clean sweep in Darbhanga follows its dominant performance in the 2020 elections as well, where it had secured 9 out of the 10 seats, with Mahagathbandhan winning only 1 seat. This time, the NDA increased its grip over the region, winning all the contested seats, including the ones in major constituencies such as Darbhanga, Alinagar, Benipur, and others.

Detailed Results of Darbhanga District Seats

The NDA’s triumph in Darbhanga was backed by strong performances from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)]. BJP’s Sanjay Sarawgi triumphed in the Darbhanga Assembly seat, defeating VIP’s Umesh Sahni by a margin of 24,593 votes. Sarawgi received 97,453 votes, while Sahni got 72,860 votes. Similarly, in the Keoti constituency, BJP’s Murari Mohan Jha defeated RJD’s Faraz Fatmi by a margin of 7,305 votes. Jha secured 89,123 votes, while Fatmi managed to get 81,818 votes.

In Hayaghat, BJP’s Ramchandra Prasad defeated CPI(M)’s Shyam Bharti by a margin of 11,839 votes. Prasad received 77,222 votes, while Bharti secured 65,383 votes. In Jale, BJP’s Jeevesh Mishra won against Congress’s Rishi Mishra with a margin of 21,862 votes. Mishra received 100,496 votes, while Rishi got 78,634 votes.

Success of JD(U) Candidates

JD(U) candidates also played a crucial role in the NDA’s victory in Darbhanga. In the Darbhanga Rural constituency, JD(U)’s Rajesh Kumar Mandal defeated RJD’s Lalit Yadav by a margin of 18,392 votes. Rajesh Kumar received 80,624 votes, while Lalit Yadav garnered 62,232 votes. JD(U)’s Atyrek Kumar triumphed in the Kusheshwarsthan (SC) seat, defeating independent candidate Ganesh Bharti by a margin of 36,441 votes. Atyrek secured 85,685 votes, while Bharti got 49,244 votes.

In Benipur, JD(U)’s Vinay Kumar Chaudhary won against Congress’s Mithilesh Kumar Chaudhary by 13,603 votes. Vinay received 84,207 votes, while Mithilesh garnered 70,604 votes. JD(U)’s Madan Sahni won in Bahadurpur, defeating RJD’s Bhola Yadav by 12,011 votes. Madan secured 96,300 votes, while Bhola Yadav got 84,289 votes.

Tight Race in Other Constituencies

In Alinagar, BJP’s Maithili Thakur defeated RJD’s Vinod Mishra by 11,730 votes. Thakur received 84,915 votes, while Mishra secured 73,185 votes. In Gaurabauram, BJP’s Sujeet Kumar Singh defeated RJD’s Afzal Ali Khan by a margin of 5,669 votes. Sujeet received 77,682 votes, while Afzal Ali Khan received 72,013 votes.

The results in Darbhanga district clearly highlight the stronghold of the NDA in this region, with the BJP and JD(U) dominating every seat.

Polling Process and Counting Methodology

The counting process in Darbhanga was carried out with complete transparency and efficiency. For the counting of EVM votes, 14+1 tables were set up in each counting hall. The 14 tables were designated for the counting of EVM votes, while one table was assigned for the supervising Assistant Returning Officer. Each counting table was manned by a counting supervisor, an assistant, and a micro observer. Additionally, counting agents from the candidates’ side were also stationed at each table to ensure fairness.

Postal ballots were counted separately at designated tables. Separate counting tables were set up for constituencies with fewer booths, and more rounds of counting were conducted for areas with a higher number of booths. The counting process for each constituency followed the necessary protocols to ensure accuracy in the results.

NDA’s Strong Performance Across Constituencies

The NDA managed to secure a commanding lead in all the constituencies of Darbhanga, thanks to the strong electoral strategy and extensive campaigning by both the BJP and JD(U). With BJP winning 6 seats and JD(U) winning 2, the overall performance reflected the growing popularity of the NDA in the region. BJP candidates like Sanjay Sarawgi, Murari Mohan Jha, Jeevesh Mishra, and others stood out as the key winners. JD(U) candidates, including Madan Sahni, Atyrek Kumar, and Rajesh Kumar Mandal, also contributed significantly to the NDA’s success.

In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, which included the RJD and its allies, struggled to gain any significant ground in Darbhanga. The RJD’s Lalit Yadav managed to secure a seat in Darbhanga Rural, and VIP’s Mishri Lal Yadav won in Alinagar, but the overall impact of these wins was minimal. The Mahagathbandhan was left with just 2 seats, significantly behind the NDA’s dominant performance in the district.

Implications of the Results for the Mahagathbandhan

The clean sweep of Darbhanga by the NDA sends a strong message regarding the shifting political dynamics in Bihar. While the Mahagathbandhan was expecting strong support in this region, its failure to perform highlights the challenges faced by opposition parties in the state. The defeat of RJD and other Mahagathbandhan allies, including Congress and VIP, is indicative of the diminishing influence of the opposition in key constituencies.

The results also point towards the growing influence of BJP and JD(U) in rural and semi-urban areas of Bihar. Despite facing challenges from the opposition, the NDA’s continued dominance in Darbhanga shows the effectiveness of their political strategies and strong voter base.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections have reinforced the NDA’s political dominance in Darbhanga. With the party winning all 10 seats, the NDA has established itself as the main political force in the region. For the Mahagathbandhan, this defeat serves as a wake-up call to reassess its strategy and strengthen its base in Bihar.

Looking ahead, the BJP and JD(U) are likely to continue their stronghold in Darbhanga, while the opposition will need to work hard to regain the trust of the electorate. The defeat of Mahagathbandhan candidates indicates that the political landscape in Bihar is evolving, and the ruling NDA is in a position to lead the state for the foreseeable future.
