Cold Wave Intensifies in Bihar : Temperatures Dip in 22 Districts

Published on

The cold wave in Bihar has intensified, with temperatures dropping significantly across 22 districts, including the state capital Patna. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning, urging people to remain alert as the cold conditions persist. The change in weather patterns is attributed to a Western Disturbance, which has brought a shift in the state’s climate. The weather department predicts further dip in temperatures in the coming days.

Temperature Drop Across Bihar

The impact of the cold wave is being felt across various parts of Bihar. Due to the western winds, there have been fluctuations in the temperature, and the cold has intensified, especially during the mornings and evenings. The snowfall in the hills has led to a noticeable chill in the air, particularly during early mornings and nights, making it feel colder.

Even though the sun emerges during the daytime, the cold remains, especially due to the icy winds. In addition to this, a layer of fog has been reducing the impact of warmth in the atmosphere. The thick fog in several areas of the state, including Patna, has led to low visibility in the mornings. According to the Meteorological Department’s Patna center, a cyclonic circulation has formed over the plains of West Bengal, which is influencing the weather in Bihar. As a result, the influence of western winds is expected to persist for the next few days.

Fog and Reduced Visibility

The weather forecast suggests that light to moderate fog will continue to affect visibility in the mornings for the next three to four days. On Monday, the maximum temperature in Patna and 21 other districts saw a further dip. Patna recorded a temperature drop of 1.3 degrees Celsius, bringing the maximum temperature down to 27.7°C. Meanwhile, Motihari recorded the highest temperature of 31.0°C during the last 24 hours.

The minimum visibility recorded in Purnia was as low as 1,000 meters, causing reduced visibility and a prolonged chill in the atmosphere. Even though the sun was visible during the day, the ongoing cold breeze from the hills maintained the chill in the air, making the weather feel colder than usual.

Weather in Major Cities

Here are the recorded temperatures in some of the major cities of Bihar:

  • Patna: Maximum temperature – 27.7°C, Minimum temperature – 17.0°C

  • Gaya: Maximum temperature – 28.2°C, Minimum temperature – 13.6°C

  • Bhagalpur: Maximum temperature – 28.1°C, Minimum temperature – 15.8°C

  • Muzaffarpur: Maximum temperature – 27.6°C, Minimum temperature – 16.7°C

These temperatures highlight the ongoing drop in temperature levels across the state, with various regions experiencing similar weather patterns.

The Impact of Western Disturbance

The primary reason behind the temperature drop and change in weather patterns in Bihar is the ongoing Western Disturbance. This weather system, originating from the northwest, causes fluctuations in temperature, leading to colder winds sweeping through the region. As the Western Disturbance continues its effect on Bihar, temperatures are likely to stay lower than usual for several more days.

The system has also brought light to moderate snowfall in the hilly regions, which has contributed to the chill in the plains. The impact of this disturbance is expected to last for the next few days, with colder weather conditions likely to persist throughout the state.

Advice for People to Stay Cautious

The Meteorological Department has advised residents of Bihar to take necessary precautions during the cold weather. It is essential to stay warm, especially during the early morning and late evening hours when the chill is most intense. People with respiratory issues are advised to avoid exposure to the cold winds. Those traveling in the early hours should be cautious due to reduced visibility caused by fog.

The health department has also issued a reminder to keep an eye on weather updates and take necessary measures to avoid health risks associated with the cold wave. People are urged to stay indoors as much as possible during the peak cold hours and ensure proper heating when indoors to avoid cold-related illnesses.

The cold wave in Bihar, triggered by the Western Disturbance, is expected to continue affecting the state in the coming days. With temperatures dipping in 22 districts, including Patna, the weather is likely to stay cold, especially during the mornings and nights. The presence of fog and reduced visibility will further contribute to the chilly conditions. As the temperature remains low, residents are advised to stay vigilant and take appropriate precautions to stay warm and safe.

In summary, Bihar is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures, with fog and cold winds making the weather feel colder than usual. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the cold wave will persist for the next few days, and people should remain cautious during this period.
