Bihar Weather Update: Winter Has Arrived in Bihar, Temperature Drops Significantly

Published on

Bihar has begun to experience a noticeable drop in temperature, signaling the onset of winter. As the mornings and evenings become chilly, the temperature has reached as low as 18°C at night. According to weather experts, the La Niña effect is expected to bring harsher winter conditions this year. Additionally, rainfall during this monsoon season has been 31% below the normal levels due to a lack of consistent rainfall.

Bihar’s Weather Shift: Cold Takes Over

The chill in Bihar arrived even before the complete withdrawal of the monsoon season. As the monsoon did not fully depart from the region, cold air began to make its way into Bihar, especially in the mornings and evenings, where residents can already feel the shiver. The temperature drop is evident, with the night temperature hovering between 18°C and 20°C. Even during the day, the sunlight has become more mild, making the weather feel pleasant and inviting.

The cold is starting to affect daily life in the state, and people have begun to bring out their blankets and quilts in response to the chilly air. The onset of winter has already begun to make its presence felt, and it’s expected that this year, the cold weather will be much harsher.

Experts Predict A Severe Winter

Weather scientists have indicated that Bihar is likely to experience an unusually cold winter this year. Starting in mid-November, the state will see a significant drop in temperature, with the cold intensifying through December and January. The upcoming months are expected to bring biting cold, making this winter one of the harshest in recent years.

The primary reason for the colder temperatures is the La Niña phenomenon. La Niña, a weather pattern caused by cooler-than-usual sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, influences atmospheric conditions worldwide. This year, the La Niña effect is particularly strong, which means that cooler air will dominate the region for a longer period. The cooler ocean temperatures contribute to a steady flow of cold winds across the country, and Bihar will experience an early onset of winter that is expected to last longer than usual.

Impact of La Niña on Bihar’s Weather

La Niña, as weather scientists explain, leads to an extended period of cold weather. This phenomenon causes an increase in cold winds, which will affect northern India, including Bihar. As a result, the region will experience a more intense and prolonged winter season. The cooler winds will not only affect the temperature but will also reduce the chances of rainfall during the winter months, making the air feel colder and drier.

Bihar residents have already begun to notice the changes in their daily lives, as the chill in the air is making mornings and evenings colder. The region, which usually starts feeling the winter’s effects in late November or December, is now bracing for early cold waves, which will likely last well into the early months of next year.

Forecast for Bihar Today

On Wednesday, the weather in Bihar will remain dry, with a slight morning mist. In urban areas, you may notice dewdrops on the grass and car windows. Rural areas, however, are experiencing thick fog in the mornings, which is common during this time of the year. The chill will be most noticeable during the early mornings and late evenings. Weather forecasts predict that the maximum temperature in the state will range between 28°C and 32°C, while the minimum temperature will be between 18°C and 22°C.

The Monsoon’s Disappointing Conclusion

The withdrawal of the monsoon from Bihar started on October 10 and was completed by October 13. This year, the state saw significantly less rainfall compared to the previous years. During the monsoon season, which spans from June 1 to September 30, Bihar recorded a total of 686.3 mm of rainfall. This is about 31% less than the normal rainfall of 992.2 mm, marking a noticeable deficit in the region’s rainfall this year.

The reduced rainfall has contributed to a drier atmosphere, which is making the cold feel more pronounced. Additionally, the lack of rain has affected agricultural activities, leading to concerns about crop yields for the upcoming season.

Temperature and AQI in Key Cities of Bihar

The temperature and air quality index (AQI) are also showing noticeable variations across different cities in Bihar. Here’s a look at the current weather in some of the major cities of the state:

  • Patna: The maximum temperature is 31.5°C, while the minimum is 23.5°C. The AQI in Patna is 156, indicating moderate pollution.

  • Muzaffarpur: The maximum temperature is 29.8°C, and the minimum is 23°C. The AQI here stands at 115, suggesting relatively better air quality than Patna.

  • Gaya: In Gaya, the maximum temperature is 30°C, and the minimum temperature is 21.5°C. The AQI is 149, indicating moderate pollution levels.

  • Purnia: The maximum temperature is 33.4°C, with a minimum of 21.1°C. The AQI in Purnia is 119, showing moderate air quality.

  • Bhagalpur: Bhagalpur’s maximum temperature is 31.4°C, and the minimum is 22°C. The AQI here is 154, which is considered moderate.

As Bihar braces for the upcoming winter, residents are adjusting to the early chill and preparing for even colder days ahead. With weather experts predicting a harsher winter due to the La Niña effect, it is crucial for people to take precautions against the cold, especially during the night and early morning hours. The combination of reduced rainfall and colder temperatures means that this winter will be more intense, with less moisture in the air and longer periods of chilly weather.

Bihar’s weather has undergone a noticeable shift, with the onset of winter making it clear that the state will experience a longer and more intense cold season than usual. People should prepare for the upcoming months, taking the necessary steps to stay warm and healthy as temperatures continue to drop.

In summary, Bihar’s weather is taking a colder turn this year, with temperatures dropping and the La Niña phenomenon promising a harsher winter. The monsoon season has ended early, with rainfall being significantly lower than average. As the cold intensifies, residents should stay prepared for a chilly and long winter season.
