Bihar Weather Update : Severe Cold Tightens Grip Across the State

Published on

Bihar continues to reel under an intense cold wave that has disrupted daily life across the state. The biting chill has left people struggling to step out of their homes, while routine activities remain affected. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold day alert for all districts of Bihar, warning that relief is unlikely for the next four to five days. The persistent cold conditions have increased discomfort, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

Cold Wave Impacts Daily Life in Bihar

The severe cold has created challenging conditions for residents across urban and rural areas. People are forced to continue work despite freezing temperatures. The ongoing snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh is directly influencing weather patterns in Bihar. Cold winds originating from northern regions are sweeping across the state, keeping temperatures well below normal levels. Except for Madhubani, minimum temperatures in 37 districts have remained below 10 degrees Celsius, reflecting the widespread severity of the cold wave.

The situation has been particularly harsh in open areas and agricultural fields. Farmers and daily wage workers are facing increased hardship due to prolonged exposure to cold air. Public movement during early morning hours has declined as thick fog and low temperatures combine to create unsafe travel conditions.

Current Weather Conditions Across Key Districts

Weather data from the past 24 hours shows that Bhagalpur, Sheikhpura, Chhapra, Kishanganj, and Gaya recorded minimum temperatures near 7 degrees Celsius. Bhagalpur emerged as the coldest district in the state, with the mercury dropping to 4.4 degrees Celsius. These conditions underline the seriousness of the cold spell affecting eastern and central Bihar.

Dense fog during morning hours has significantly reduced visibility in many districts. Roads, highways, and railway tracks remain vulnerable, increasing the risk of accidents. Commuters are advised to remain cautious while traveling during early hours. Fog conditions tend to ease slightly by late morning, though cold air continues throughout the day.

Orange Alert Issued for Cold Day and Dense Fog

The Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert for cold day conditions and dense fog across all districts of Bihar. The alert highlights the potential risks associated with prolonged exposure to low temperatures and reduced visibility. Schools, offices, and local administrations have been advised to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

Cold day conditions mean that maximum temperatures remain significantly lower than average, making daytime hours unusually cold. This has resulted in increased demand for warm clothing and heating arrangements. Vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, are facing higher health risks during this period.

No Immediate Relief Expected in Coming Days

According to weather officials, the current cold spell is linked to active western disturbances over northern India. Continuous snowfall in hilly regions is pushing cold air masses toward the plains. These cold northwesterly winds are maintaining low temperatures across Bihar. Meteorologists have stated that there is little chance of improvement over the next three to four days.

On Thursday, several districts may experience cold winds blowing at speeds between 20 and 30 kilometers per hour. These winds are expected to intensify the chilling effect, making the cold feel even harsher. The impact will be more noticeable in open spaces, farmlands, and along highways.

Temperature Likely to Drop Further

Weather forecasts suggest that minimum temperatures across Bihar could drop by up to four degrees Celsius over the next four days. Maximum temperatures may also fall by two to three degrees Celsius within the next 24 hours. This trend indicates that both day and night temperatures will remain uncomfortable, extending the cold wave’s impact.

The persistence of cold winds is expected to maintain shivering conditions throughout the state. For the next three days, most regions are likely to remain under cold day conditions. Residents are advised to limit unnecessary outdoor activities and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

Mixed Temperature Trends Observed Recently

Despite the overall cold conditions, some districts recorded a slight rise in minimum temperatures on Wednesday. An increase ranging from zero to four degrees Celsius was noted in a few areas. However, this brief fluctuation did not provide meaningful relief, as temperatures quickly dropped again due to continued cold air inflow.

Such variations are common during extended cold spells. Weather experts explain that cloud cover and wind patterns can temporarily influence temperatures. However, the broader weather system continues to favor cold conditions across the region.

Health and Safety Advisory for Residents

The prolonged cold wave poses serious health concerns, particularly for those with respiratory illnesses and weakened immunity. Doctors advise wearing layered clothing and avoiding prolonged exposure to cold air. Staying indoors during early morning hours can reduce the risk of cold-related ailments.

Local administrations have been urged to ensure adequate arrangements for homeless populations. Night shelters and warming centers play a crucial role during such extreme weather. Public awareness campaigns are also essential to prevent incidents related to hypothermia and cold stress.

Outlook for the Week Ahead

Meteorologists continue to monitor weather patterns closely. Any significant change will depend on shifts in western disturbances and wind direction. Until then, Bihar is expected to remain under the grip of intense cold. Residents should remain prepared for challenging conditions and stay updated with official weather advisories.

The coming days will test the resilience of people across the state. With no immediate relief in sight, caution and preparedness remain key. As winter tightens its hold, Bihar braces for continued cold, fog, and low temperatures across all districts.
