Bihar Weather Update: Heavy Rain Alert Issued Across Several Districts

Published on

The weather in Bihar is changing rapidly as the Meteorological Department has issued fresh alerts for several districts. According to the forecast, from September 10 onwards, the state will witness a significant shift in weather conditions. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected to dominate several regions. This prediction comes at a time when people are already experiencing cloudy skies and scattered showers in different parts of the state.

Changing Weather Brings Relief from Heat and Humidity

Since early morning, parts of Bihar have been witnessing rain showers. Some districts have reported continuous rainfall, while others have only experienced overcast conditions. The rainfall has brought much-needed relief from the hot and humid conditions that were troubling people in recent weeks. With clouds covering most of the sky, the temperature has dropped slightly, offering some comfort. However, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the entire state on September 10 and 11, cautioning residents about the possibility of heavy downpours in many areas.

Rainfall Predictions for the Next Three Hours

The Meteorological Department has specifically mentioned that in the next three hours, rainfall is likely in multiple districts. The areas under immediate watch include West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Jamui, Banka, and Madhubani. These districts could experience sudden showers accompanied by thunder and strong winds. This short-term forecast is important as it alerts residents to prepare for sudden changes in local weather conditions.

Yellow Alert for September 10 and 11

On September 10, districts like Kishanganj, Begusarai, and Bhagalpur are likely to witness heavy rainfall. The following day, September 11, the alert extends to West Champaran, East Champaran, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. Along with heavy rain, winds at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour may strike, accompanied by lightning. Residents in these regions are advised to remain cautious as lightning incidents are often reported during such weather patterns.

Forecast Until September 15

The Patna Meteorological Centre has forecast that rainfall will continue across Bihar from September 9 to 15. The intensity of rain may vary from light to moderate depending on the district, but thunder and lightning will remain common. This prolonged spell of rainfall will finally ease the humid weather that has been troubling people for weeks. However, strong winds reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour pose risks, and residents have been urged to stay alert.

Cause Behind the Changing Weather

Meteorologists have explained that the primary reason for the sudden change in weather is the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. This system has become active, pushing large amounts of moisture into Bihar’s atmosphere. With monsoon clouds becoming denser, the state is witnessing an increase in rainfall activities. This system is expected to remain active for the coming days, ensuring that showers continue in several parts of Bihar.

Situation in Patna

In Patna, the weather has remained cloudy since morning, with short spells of light rainfall recorded in some areas. However, the showers have not been sufficient to provide full relief from the humidity. The yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department has raised hopes of heavier rainfall in the city. Local residents are waiting for continuous downpours to bring temperatures down and improve the weather further.

Safety Precautions for Residents

As heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected, authorities have urged people to take safety measures. Farmers working in fields, people traveling by road, and those living in open areas are particularly vulnerable during such weather. Staying indoors during thunderstorms, avoiding contact with electrical appliances, and staying away from tall structures or trees are some of the suggested precautions.

Impact on Daily Life

The upcoming spell of heavy rainfall may affect transportation, agriculture, and local businesses in Bihar. Roads may become waterlogged, disrupting traffic in major towns and cities. Train services and air travel could also be impacted if heavy rain persists for several days. For farmers, while rainfall will benefit standing crops, excess water could also damage fields. The balance between useful rainfall and destructive flooding is something authorities will monitor closely.

Extended Outlook

Weather experts suggest that the current monsoon spell may be one of the last major rainfall events before the retreat of monsoon from Bihar. Typically, the monsoon begins to weaken in the second half of September, but this year, the low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has extended the wet phase. With rains predicted until September 15, the state is likely to record above-average rainfall during this period.

Bihar is preparing for a fresh spell of heavy rainfall starting September 10. With multiple districts under alert, residents are advised to remain cautious and follow safety instructions. While the rain will bring relief from heat and humidity, the risk of lightning, strong winds, and waterlogging remains high. The Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates as weather conditions evolve.
